Ajay Mitchell • 24pts • 4reb • 10ast #jemihoops

Ajay Mitchell had career playoff highs of 24 points and 10 assists, and the Oklahoma City Thunder extended their unbeaten playoff run to the brink of another Western Conference finals with a 131-108 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 3 of the second round on Saturday night. Game 3 was remarkably similar to Game 2 in many respects: The Lakers again had to fight desperately just to keep up with the champs into the third quarter, only for the Thunder to run away with their usual merciless efficiency when LA finally faltered. Chet Holmgren had 18 points and nine rebounds for Oklahoma City, which outscored the Lakers 33-20 in the third quarter and wasn't threatened at all down the stretch. “I think (the first half) wasn't our best half, and in the locker room we just talked about it and knew that we had to adjust and be better,” said Mitchell, who continued his postseason emergence by scoring at least 14 points for the sixth consecutive game. “I think we did a great job coming out of the half.” “These obviously haven't been my best performances,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “But I think I've been able to help the team win, and that's most important. If the rest of the playoff run or the rest of my career looked like what it looked like the past few games, I'd be OK with it, because we won games.” “They're an incredible basketball team,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said. “Third straight game we're right there after 2 1/2 quarters. We tried different lineups, different coverages. Still lost those minutes. Again, we've got to be better, but I'm not giving up on the series. We're going to go try to win on Monday. We're going to try to extend the series.” Oklahoma City erased that lead with a methodical surge out of halftime, going up by 13 in the third quarter.

The 30-point blowout completed a clean 4-0 sweep, led by Jalen Brunson’s 22 points and a balanced attack that saw the Knicks’ bench contribute 25 points from Miles McBride. On the other side of the bracket, the Cleveland Cavaliers managed to breathe life into their series against the top-seeded Detroit Pistons. After falling behind 2–0, Cleveland defended home court on Saturday with a 116–109 win. Donovan Mitchell was the catalyst with 35 points, while James Harden provided veteran poise to help the Cavs narrow the series deficit to 2–1. The West: Thunder on the Verge and Wolves Evening UpIn the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder moved to the brink of the next round by dismantling the Los Angeles Lakers 131–108 on Saturday night. Holding a commanding 3–0 lead, the Thunder’s youth and speed overwhelmed the Lakers despite 19 points from LeBron James. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (23 points) and Chet Holmgren (18 points, 9 rebounds) continued their systematic breakdown of the L.A. defense, leaving the Lakers facing a must-win Game 4 tonight. The most dramatic contest of the weekend occurred in Minneapolis, where the Minnesota Timberwolves evened their series against the San Antonio Spurs at 2–2 with a 114–109 win. The game was overshadowed by the second-quarter ejection of Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, who was assessed a Flagrant 2 foul for an elbow to Naz Reid. In his absence, Anthony Edwards took full control, scoring 36 points—including 16 in the final frame—to fend off a late San Antonio rally led by De'Aaron Fox and rookie Dylan Harper.

The Los Angeles Lakers are now down 0-3 to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. They've gotten blown out in all three games with big ups and downs from Austin Reaves and LeBron James and with Luka Doncic sidelined. It sets up an offseason where they have a lot of important work to do and it may be the most important of Rob Pelinka's tenure with Luka Doncic's contract coming up. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers go ahead and grab a win over the Detroit Pistons with better play from James Harden and Donovan Mitchell.
