Salvo muy pocos momentos de actividad, la mayor parte del combate fue más bien un espectáculo de Bivol, aparte de un décimo asalto en el que pareció tomarse un respiro para mantener algo de gasolina en el tanque para los asaltos 11 y 12, donde volvió a retomar el pulso y apagó por completo a su oponente. Ramírez, ex campeón del peso super mediano, ha sido criticado por su oposición a lo largo de los años, algo que se vio marcadamente en sus últimas peleas, y su paso a enfrentarse a un tipo que todo el mundo considera de primer nivel no fue bueno. Para Bivol, este triunfo pone punto final a un año que ha sido el mejor de su trayectoria, que lo llevó de "buen boxeador y titular" a "legítimo peleador de élite". Si su victoria sobre Canelo Álvarez en mayo abrió muchos ojos, esta pelea eliminó cualquier duda sobre su capacidad para imponerse a rivales de distinas habilidades boxísticas y capacidades físicas.
