Josef Martinez Wants To End His Career As an Atlanta United FC Player

ATLANTA, GEORGIA— Atlanta United FC star striker Josef Martinez on Tuesday, doused off rumors that he wants to get out of the team and play somewhere else. In a press conference, Venezuela soccer star Martinez said, he loved playing for the city and is very grateful, that the team acquired him. “The first time I came here, I said, this is my club, this is my city and I love to be here,” Martinez said. Martinez added that if given the chance he wants to end his professional soccer career in the MLS soccer club. “I want to retire here. I love this club,” Martinez stated. Rumors have been circulating earlier, that Martinez wants to leave the team due to his reported feud with former coach Gabriel Heinze. Sources said Martinez will play for the team when they visit the home team FC Cincinnati, on July 21 at TQL Stadium. United FC interim head coach Rob Valentino is optimistic his crew can finally get back to its winning ways, especially that Martinez is expected to play in the game. United FC is also confident of a victory against the home team since Cincinnati is also struggling in the ongoing Major League Soccer season. Cincinnati’s defense has unsurprisingly been one of the worst in the league and conceded the second-most goals in the league (25). To defeat the home team, Martinez needs to play his A-game come game-time. Aside from Martinez, newly acquired player striker Amar Sejdic also needs to play well for United FC. If Valentino can come up with a good game plan on Wednesday, there is no reason his team will lose against the home team. Jim Curtin LABELS Gabriel Heinze a SORE LOSER, and more, after SCCL match

The Philadelphia Union and Atlanta United drew 1-1 in leg two of the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal, with the Union breezing past Atlanta 4-1 on aggregate after two legs. The Union advancing seemed a foregone conclusion after Philly's huge 3-0 win in Atlanta last week. Tensions were high on the field, though, and that continued between the two managers. Union boss Jim Curtin and Atlanta's Gabriel Heinze were seen sharing words on the touchline after the match, with the Atlanta man looking none too pleased. After the game, Curtin shed some light (and an expletive) on that discussion and an attempted handshake.
