What's really behind F1's weird Lewis Hamilton/Sebastian Vettel/FIA feud
Open defiance from Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel in the wake of an FIA rules clampdown has put a weird Formula 1 feud in the spotlight. The two most decorated drivers on the F1 grid have been the most prominent objectors to the FIA suddenly enforcing long-standing rules on jewellery and flameproof underwear. Hamilton now appears to be locked in a stand-off with the governing body that could result in him eventually being hit with a fine of more than $250,000 every time he drives the car. Why Ferrari hasn't upgraded its 2022 F1 car yet
In a Formula 1 season everyone was tipping to be a massive development race with all-new rules - Ferrari is leading both championships without upgrading its car at all. The F1-75 has won two of the first four races despite pretty much existing in its launch specification, give or take some circuit-specific downforce configurations. Rival Red Bull already introduced one big upgrade during testing and it has started a big weight-saving exercise as well. Mercedes' worst weekend yet in an awful start to the 2022 Formula 1 season has led the team and star driver Lewis Hamilton to a bleak verdict on its fading championship hopes. With Hamilton now 58 points adrift of Charles Leclerc and Mercedes 47 points behind Ferrari, the chances of driver and team securing yet another title together this year look increasingly slim. Charles Leclerc’s first major mistake of the 2022 season helped reignite the Formula 1 title battle in a dramatic end to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
