Excellent goals from Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz – as well as a Jorginho penalty – gave us a richly-deserved win in the MLS All-Star match in Washington. We repeated our success of 2016, when we triumphed 2-1 in this showpiece fixture in San Jose, but this was a much more comfortable win. In fact it’s the biggest winning margin against the MLS All-Stars since 2000, and was the perfect way to get our series of three fixtures in the USA underway. Following the pre-match show of fireworks, pyrotechnics, the national anthem and a flyover, it took less than five minutes for Jesus to prove that Arsenal were the main attraction tonight. We dominated possession in the opening exchanges, before Bukayo Saka was released by a raking Jorginho pass. He found Jesus just outside the box, and the Brazilian clipped a delightful first-time chip over the keeper and just under the cross bar. Cheered on by the vast majority of the sell out 20,000 crowd inside Audi Field, we continued to dictate proceedings, and scored another stunner midway through the half. Saka – who would win the MVP award – again caused trouble by cutting inside from the right wing before sliding his pass across to Trossard. The Belgian shifted it onto his right foot then cracked home from 20 yards, giving Roman Burki no chance. The All-Stars, managed by Wayne Rooney, made a host of changes as early as the 30th minute, with former Premier League striker, and star of host club DC United, Christian Benteke among those taken off. On the stroke of half-time the impressive Trossard struck a free kick just wide, but we were good value for our two-goal lead at the break. Havertz, Martin Odegaard and Karl Hein were all introduced at half-time, and within seconds of the restart we increased our lead after being given a penalty for handball. Jorginho tucked away from 12 yards in typical fashion, leaving the keeper flat footed, and rolling it home into the corner. With 25 minutes remaining, Mikel Arteta sent on Declan Rice for his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt. Jurrien Timber also came on for his non-competitive debut, playing at right back with Ben White moving to the centre. Both were heartily cheered whenever in possession. We continued to look the most likely to score, despite the wholesale changes. Odegaard’s superb pass set up our fourth goal, as he found the advancing Martinelli on the left, who took the ball into the area before dispatching his shot low into the corner. Havertz got in on the act late on, with a thunderous drive, after bringing the ball down superbly at the far post. West Indies won the toss in the first match and decided to bat first. Courtesy of Ashwin India restricted the hosts to just 150 runs in the first innings. After this the Indians put forward a solid and resilient batting effort. Riding on the brilliant starts provided by the openers India managed to put forward a brilliant and solid batting effort posting a total of 425 runs for the loss of five wickets before declaring the innings. In the second innings the Ashwin magic worked again and India dismissed West Indies for just 130 runs this time. With that India won the match by an innings and 141 runs. The visitors will look to maintain the momentum and win this match thus winning the series by a 2-0 margin in the process. This will give Rohit Sharma and his men a brilliant start to the 2023-25 WTC cycle. On the other hand West Indies will try to comeback and walk away with prestige at the end of this clash. As India stand on the brink of another series win in West Indies they'd be resting easy given their commanding performance in the opener. So much so that even a transitioning Indian team start as favorites once again in Trinidad. It has been 21 years since West Indies last failed to lose a Test series against India and with the odds heavily stacked against them once more the hosts would be pleased if they do manage to square the series. It'd be easier said than done for West Indies' batting woes were only exacerbated in Dominica where the conditions too were right up the alley of India's masterful spinners. The challenge in Trinidad could be different if the hosts decide to back their strengths which has been the pace attack over the last few years. The tone usually set by skipper Kraigg at the top has been off-key. Brathwaite was done in twice adding to the four times previously by Ashwin in the first Test leaving a rocky ship without an anchor. India Team News: Having won the first Test handsomely India aren't hard-pressed to make any changes. R Ashwin's performance in that game would all but rule out any thought of going in with a lone spinner. The choice for the third seamer though could still be up for debate with the likes of Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar waiting in the sidelines. West Indies Team News: It is likely given the conditions that West Indies pick an extra pacer instead of two spinners which could pave the way back for Shannon Gabriel who was benched for the first game. Additionally the toss up for the lone spinner's slot will be a toss up between newbie Kevin Sinclair who has been picked with Rahkeem Cornwall staying on albeit a chest infection in the first Test. With Raymon Reifer dropped they could also hand out a cap to Kirk McKenzie. What to expect: In contrast to the first Test at Dominica where spin played a part and had a big say in the outcome of the game this ground has favoured the pacers more over the last decade. With rain expected over the course of the match it could dictate selection calls for both teams. This will be the 100th Test between India and West Indies Since 2021 no bowler has taken more wickets in Tests than R Ashwin who has 111 to his name. Pitch Report: The Queen’s Park Oval track is more favorable to bowlers than batters. Pacers will enjoy bowling on this ground due to the pace and bounce on offer.
