There is life too in Fabio Capello - and, indeed, in Spain's league title race, which provided another twist yesterday when Sevilla failed to go above Barcelona at the top by surprisingly losing 1-0 at Gimnastic. Just days after Spain's big two were knocked out of Europe they served up a fantastic contest at the Camp Nou. Billed as the poorest clásico in years between two sides on the brink of a depression it was instead the best, both sides departing with a feeling of renaissance . It started with three goals in less than a quarter of an hour and finished at 3-3, but it could have ended six apiece - the goalkeepers, Iker Casillas and Víctor Valdés, were magnificent. And they were not alone. Three times Real went ahead, three times Barça - reduced to 10 men shortly before half-time with Oleguer Presas's sending-off - equalised. Their final goal was a wonderful strike from Leo Messi in the 90th minute that completed his hattrick. With quick feet, superb balance and a chilling coolness, the Argentinian was out of this world. He collected the ball five yards outside the area, carried it past Iván Helguera and thumped beyond Casillas. In between that ending and Ruud van Nistelrooy's fourth-minute opener, this match had everything. And even after Messi's goal there was time for more drama. In the 94th minute Ronaldinho went down in Real's penalty area under challenge from Mahamadou Diarra, but the referee dismissed the appeals. It would have been harsh for Madrid to depart as losers here. Defeat would have cost Capello his job. Instead, he earned a reprieve. The Italian should survive to the end of the season, with the president, Ramón Calderón, insisting that he will "still be here in June". Now the pressure is on for Frank Rijkaard, whose 3-4-3 formation appeared a risk too far. Rijkaard's side were full of fluid movement, but while Messi slotted one into the corner and thrashed another into the roof of the net, Barça were repeatedly thwarted by Casillas. And at the other end they were so bad it was comic. Van Nistelrooy curled in the first and put away the penalty for the second after Guti was brought down. Oleguer got a booking for the foul and a second followed before the interval. His sending-off changed the game, Rijkaard removing Samuel Eto'o and playing with only two forwards. Madrid now dominated, and Sergio Ramos's header seemed to have earned them a huge victory before Messi's moment of magic. Man of the match Leo Messi (Barcelona) FCB Comps A7i, 17.11.2019.
Ukraine proves to be the bane of Portugal and they prematurely secure qualification despite another Ronaldo record. France cannot get a win against a resilient Turkey side and the evening in Sofia was just depressing. Tennessee met us with a crazy storm, humidity and a lot of forests. The climate here appears to be somewhat similar to Ukrainian summer. It seemed like the state holds its beauty far away from the cities, as Little Rock and Memphis made an impression of depressing cities. Every intersection has its own drama with a person behind it, holding a cardboard sign. Old, boxy, cracked buildings add to this scenery, making you want to escape the town. On another hand - The Graceland, Elvis Presley’s house. It’s amazing how much of an impact and difference one man can do. The house is not really big but holds a lot of family history. I can tell that he definitely liked himself as every corner in the house has a huge mirror from floor to the ceiling. I really liked his racket ball room and meditation garden, can’t wait to get my own. The man had everything, but still, as he said: “I am the happiest, when I’m home with my family”.
Having only the past success of the Cardinals to be proud of, the residents of St. Louis have pondered the time it would take for another championship to arrive in the city. And after seeing the Rams relocate to Los Angeles, the only other team they had left were the Blues. But that only meant one thing: there would be no more championships. As the losses piled up and the team continued to have disappointing seasons, fans began to lose hope in their hockey team. But now they can wipe away any regret they had in the past because, after 52 years of misery and postseason woes, the St. Louis Blues have won the Stanley Cup. No more having to suffer through another heartbreaking playoff run. No more having to go back to the drawing board and endure another rebuild in hopes of attaining glory. It's over. Once again, if you take a look back at their history, it is incredibly depressing. Years of their past misfortune had always come back to haunt them, and they constantly came up short despite outstanding management that kept the franchise afloat after all these years. But that didn't stop them from winning. Nothing could stop this team from having a meeting with Stanley. It was inevitable. All it took was an unprecedented run to get them engraved into the Cup. May the legacy of the Blues continue to live on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want the full story of their comeback, click here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/carolschram/2019/06/13/how-the-st-louis-blues-built-their-2019-stanley-cup-winning-team/amp/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: Fair use is a legal doctrine that says you can reuse copyright-protected material under certain circumstances without getting permission from the copyright owner. On today’s Outkick the Show, Clay Travis began by referring to the Houston Rockets feud between Chris Paul (CP3) and James Harden. The media has “Chris Paul is untradeable," said Travis. "He’s too old, has a massive contract, and he is continually surrounded by drama." Clay Travis then transitioned into the problems with the Los Angeles Lakers and their quest to find a third, top-tier player. Clay is suggesting a strategy to capitalize on this summer’s filming of Space Jam 2, which would be a creative way to play a player additional money by connecting him to the movie. This would subsidize his annual salary and not affect the NBA’s salary cap structure. Clay Travis then commented on the Mike Conley trade acquisition by the Utah Jazz with hopes of becoming relevant by adding the point guard to their roster. This is a huge risk, said Travis, and may not pan out. Clay Travis then talked about the terrifying Malaysian Air flight story in The Atlantic that he called a must-read. According to the article, the 57-year old pilot was depressed and decided to commit suicide with an entire flight full of innocent travelers on board. One piece of compelling evidence was a simulated flight in his flight simulator which matched the flight path when he intentionally crashed his plane. Clay Travis also discussed a highly covered Little League brawl following a game in Colorado. The umpire, said Travis, was just 13 years old. While Clay didn’t condone the fight, he shared a personal story from his youth baseball coaching experience with a teenage umpire who told him he didn’t care following a missed call. Not caring while being paid to do a job is unacceptable, added Travis. Finally, Clay Travis mentioned the current status of NFL Sunday Ticket and offered his theory about Direct TV’s exclusive $1.5 billion contract that is up for renewal this Fall. Clay is of the opinion that the NFL is having a hard time finding anyone to agree to the price tag, and Direct TV would much rather lose their exclusivity, thereby paying less for the rights to providing the package.
Nothing to see here, just depressing New Zealand Warriors stuff. New Zealand Warriors were defeated ... or had their souls snatched by Melbourne Storm, at Mt Smart 10-32. This is the aftermath, a few days later and it's not fun to record thoughts about a crappy footy club. Patreon: www.patreon.com/elnichecache
