Yikes: The New Jersey Devils need to STAY AWAY from Free Agency in 2026
Yikes: The New Jersey Devils need to STAY AWAY from Free Agency in 2026

Charlie Coyle's recent contract extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets—a six-year deal at $6 million per year despite Coyle being 34—serves as a warning sign for the New Jersey Devils about the dangers of overpaying in free agency. Zach Berman urges the Devils to steer clear of such costly contracts when shopping for players in 2026, emphasizing that the team is in a much better position now with a savvy new general manager leading their front office restructuring. The landscape of NHL management is also shifting, with news about potential GM hires in Nashville and Vancouver signaling wider changes—but Zach Berman notes that the Devils' recent hire of Sunny Mehta might be the most impressive move among teams this offseason. Analyzing the upcoming free agent market, Zach Berman highlights how several available players bring significant risk and are likely to command overpriced deals. Names like Darren Raddysh, who had a breakout season at age 30, and Rasmus Andersson, who is coming off an uneven run, may look tempting but are "landmine" contracts waiting to happen. Even forwards like Alex Tuch—despite strong numbers in Buffalo—are likely too expensive to justify bringing in. The majority of top free agents either do not fit the Devils' needs or are expected to re-sign with their current teams. Instead of chasing risky free agents, Zach Berman recommends the Devils focus on internal roster moves and targeting trade opportunities, especially as key players like Nico Hischier approach extension talks. The cautionary tale of Charlie Coyle’s deal underscores the danger of long-term commitments to aging players, and the Devils should focus on sustainability and flexibility rather than splashy signings that could impede their progress. Finally, Zach Berman discusses coaching changes around the league, most notably the ongoing saga in Edmonton where the Oilers are interviewing Bruce Cassidy despite still having Kris Knoblauch under contract. Zach Berman argues that, should Knoblauch become available, he would be an excellent candidate for the Devils’ head coach position. However, the larger theme remains: while other franchises make questionable moves, the Devils are being urged to remain patient, prudent, and to take advantage of opportunities born from other teams’ mistakes. The Case for LeBron on the Warriors Is Actually Real
The Case for LeBron on the Warriors Is Actually Real

The Lakers just got swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder, and LeBron James is a free agent. So… what if the Golden State Warriors actually made a run at him? We're not joking. This is the hottest debate of the NBA offseason and we're getting into all of it. The hosts break down why bringing LeBron to Golden State makes more sense than most Warriors fans want to admit. At 41 years old, LeBron averaged 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists on 51% shooting — and he went off in the playoffs against one of the best teams in the league. He'd immediately be the second-best player on this roster next to Steph Curry. That's not nothing. The real question is what it would cost to get him there, and whether the Warriors' salary situation — and Steph's next contract decision — even makes it possible. Then the conversation shifts to Steph Curry's upcoming extension and whether he'll do what Tom Brady always did: take slightly less to build a better team around him. One host says he'll be disappointed if Steph takes the full max. That's a bold take — and it sparks a real debate. Topics discussed include: LeBron's playoff stats against OKC and why he's still a top player Why the Warriors have zero reason to scoff at adding LeBron The Draymond vs. LeBron question: who do you keep? Whether Steph Curry would take a pay cut to make it happen The Tom Brady comparison and what it means for team-building Where LeBron is likely headed (Lakers run it back? Miami? Cleveland?) The Jimmy Butler situation and how it affects the Warriors' offseason What do YOU think — should the Warriors make a run at LeBron James this summer? Lakers star Lebron James' future in question after being swept by Thunder
Lakers star Lebron James' future in question after being swept by Thunder

The Los Angeles Lakers' hopes of winning another NBA championship are over but questions over what comes next for LeBron James will rumble on beyond Monday's loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The reigning-champion Thunder blew an 11-point third-quarter lead only to rally back in the fourth for a 115-110 win to complete their four-game sweep of James and the Lakers. The victory means the injury-ravaged Thunder can take a much-needed rest before facing the winner of the Minnesota-San Antonio series in the Western Conference Finals. The Lakers, meanwhile, finished first in the Pacific Division again only to get knocked out of the playoffs in the first round for the second year in a row. In fact, James’ Lakers haven’t won a playoff series since reaching the conference finals in 2023. James finished with a game-high 12 rebounds and 24 points in what was an otherwise brutal game for the former MVP. Not only were the Lakers outscored by 17 points while he was on the floor, but James also committed four costly turnovers on a night when LA had 19. There's good reason to believe Monday's loss could be James' last appearance for the Lakers, given his age and expiring contract, but he didn't indicate any decision after Monday's loss. 'With my future, I don't know, obviously, I mean, it's obviously still fresh,' he told reporters. 'When the time comes, obviously you guys will know what I decided to do.' James last committed to the Lakers back in July 2024, when he agreed to a two-year deal to return to Los Angeles. It was worth $104million and it ran through the 2025/26 season. Now James will become a free agent on June 30 and questions over whether he will retire or find a new home have been bubbling since 12 months prior, when his agent Rich Paul told ESPN: 'LeBron wants to compete for a championship.' 'He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all.' The 23-season veteran, a four-time NBA champion, exercised his player option for this season. By making that $52.6m decision - rather than negotiating another deal - James ushered in a rare first: never before in his eight years with the Lakers had he played through the final year of a deal. #lebron #lakers #basketball #nbaplayoffs
