(August 5, 2016) David Benavidez went deeper into a fight than he had ever been before the 19-year-old power puncher earned a 10th-round TKO of southpaw Denis Douglin in a 168-pound bout at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Douglin (20-5, 13 KOs) was able to smother the 6-foot-2 Phoenix native for much of the fight despite giving away six inches in height, but Benavidez (16-0, 15 KOs) finally broke through with a knockdown in Round 9 before gaining the stoppage in the final frame. “I knew it was going to be a tough fight. I knew he wasn't going to go out without a fight,” said Benavidez, who is trained by his father, Jose Benavidez Sr. “I came in here and started slower than I usually do, just using my jab a little bit more. I hurt him a lot of times, but I kept my cool. I knew I was going to get him out of here sooner or later, and that's exactly what I did tonight.” Benavidez’s length and power really began to take their toll on Douglin in the ninth, when the teen landed a left uppercut to begin a four-punch volley that dropped the 28-year-old southpaw with 15 seconds left in the round. It was more of the same to begin the 10th as Benavidez punished Douglin with an array of uppercuts and hooks before referee Gary Rosato stepped in and stopped the fight 35 seconds into the round. "I was in this fight, I just got winded. I was in great shape and everything, but I got winded there towards the end,” said Douglin, who is trained by his mother, Saphya, and nicknamed “Momma’s Boy.” "Benavidez is a tough, young fighter. He was able to make me stay in there longer than I wanted to, but I feel good and I'll be back." It was the eighth straight knockout for Benavidez, but just his fourth time fighting past four rounds, eclipsing his seventh-round TKO of previously unbeaten Francy Ntetu in June as the longest fight of his career. Douglin controlled the first couple rounds of the fight as the Marlboro, New Jersey, resident worked inside against his much taller opponent and landed some solid shots as he was able to position Benavidez against the ropes. Benavidez began to alternate from orthodox to southpaw after that and dug in for a pair of body shots before landing a mouthpiece-jarring right hand in Round 6. Midway through the seventh, Benavidez bounced against the ropes and nearly collapsed to the canvas as the support for the top rope came unattached and had to be repaired, causing a 2½-minute delay. With Rosato holding the ropes at times afterward to negate the weight of the fighters, Benavidez started to wear down Douglin, who was stopped for the fourth time in his career. “It was important to me to get the stoppage and show everybody that I am just as strong in the late rounds as I am early on,” Benavidez said. “I love this. This is what I signed up for. I want tough fights. This is a good victory for me. “Douglin is a tough veteran. He started fast and swinging wildly, and his offense probably looked better on camera than it was, but he did what he had to do to survive until the final round.” #BenavidezDouglin #DavidBenavidez #DenisDouglin Visit PremierBoxingChampions.com for more info. (March 2, 2019) Former 154-pound world champion Erislandy Lara and WBA Super Welterweight Champion Brian Castaño fought to a highly competitive split-draw Saturday at Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™, in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions. With the draw, Castaño retains the WBA belt in what was the toughest test of his career against the longtime top 154-pounder in Lara. The judges scored the fight 115-113 (Castaño), 115-113 (Lara) and 114-114. Castaño (15-0-1, 11 KOs), who was fighting in his first U.S. main event, held a large advantage in power connects (181-103) while Lara (25-3-3, 14 KOs) found success landing his left hand down the middle on his way to a 34 percent to 27 percent advantage in power accuracy. In the close, difficult-to-score fight, five of the rounds were separated by three or fewer connects and three of those rounds favored Lara. In the final two rounds, Castaño ramped up the pressure and connected on 44 punches, while Lara landed only 24 punches across the championship rounds. Castaño won the final three rounds on all three judges' scorecards. Without doing so, the Argentine would have lost his belt. After the hotly contested fight, both fighters have options, including a rematch, in the talent-rich super welterweight division. "I know I won the fight. I feel I was robbed," a disappointed Castaño told SHOWTIME's Jim Gray. "If he wants the rematch, I'll give him the rematch. I waited for him this time so I can wait for him again if he wants the rematch. I would give him the rematch if he wants. I can also go ahead and fight any other champion that wants to fight me. I'm ready for whoever they put in front of me. Hurd or anyone else." Lara, on the other hand, felt he did enough to claim the belt: "I thought I won the fight by landing the more accurate and effective punches. Castaño came to fight but he never hurt me and I hurt him. All I can do is give the fans great fights and that's what I'll continue to do. I have a lot of fight left in me and I'm not going anywhere. "If we have to fight him again, I'll fight him. Hurd or Castaño. Anybody, I'll have the rematch with both." #LaraCastano #ErislandyLara #BrianCastano Visit PremierBoxingChampions.com for more info. #BronerSantiago #AdrienBroner #JovanieSantiago Adrien Broner vs Jovanie Santiago Post Fight Press Conference - Adrien Broner DEFEATS Jovanie Santiago via UD Unanimous Decision Febrauary 20, 2021 - Otto Wallin vs Dominic Breazeale - Robert Easter vs Ryan Martin UNDERCARD Previews - Fight View 360 Broner vs Santiago Post Fight Recap, Reaction, Post Fight Review, Highlights, & FULL Fight Breakdown - FOLLOW On Twitter 👉 https://twitter.com/TstreeT4Life 👈 ▶️Subscribe ✔ Like ✔ Comment ✔ Share ◀️& 👉 VISIT https://www.fightview360.com 👈 for latest boxing news, rankings, schedules, highlights, post fight content, reviews, recaps, & results ** TOPICS: Former four-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner returned from his two-year hiatus from boxing with a unanimous decision victory over Jovanie Santiago in the main event of Saturday night’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast, live on SHOWTIME from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., in a Premier Boxing Champions event. The popular, must-see attraction Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs), who last fought against the legend Manny Pacquiao in January 2019, started slowly but used the second half of the fight to surge ahead on the judges’ scorecards. The fight was scored 116-111, 117-110 and 115-112 and all three judges had Broner winning rounds seven through ten. “That was cool,” said Broner, who had his hand raised for the first time in four years. “I want to go home and really look at my fight. I haven’t fought in two years. But I felt good, I felt like I won the fight. I felt like I beat him with the jab, honestly. But it felt good to get my hand raised though.” Cincinnati’s Broner landed just 35 of 138 punches in the opening six rounds of the fight while the previously undefeated Santiago (14-1-1, 10 KOs) landed 93 of 305 during the same stretch. At the end of the fourth round, Santiago was deducted a point for a punch that landed after the bell. Over the final six frames, Broner landed 63 of 300 punches while Santiago landed 114 of 392. Broner was most active in the ninth round when he connected on 14 of 38 punches. Though outworked over the entirety of the fight, Broner landed quality punches over the second half of the bout which earned him the victory. “I knew he was going to be tough because he’s 14-0,” added Broner. “And anybody with that ‘0’ wants to keep that ‘0’ so they’re going to fight like a bum fighting for a sandwich. I came in and I got the job done. There is a lot of work out there at 140. Right now we’re going to the drawing board with Al Haymon to see what’s best for me. But I’m definitely going back to the gym and I’m looking forward to getting one of those titles this year at 140.” SHOWTIME’s unofficial scorer Steve Farhood scored the fight 114-113 in favor of the Puerto Rican Santiago, much to the chagrin of Broner. Santiago, on the other hand, was not surprised by the judges’ scorecards. “No, the decision doesn’t surprise me,” he said. “Broner did a nice job in there. The decision could have gone both ways. He fought a great fight. We were in it to win this fight and he got the decision. I think boxing fans know who I am now, but in this fight I should have applied more pressure and the fight would have gone my way.” In the co-main event, Swedish heavyweight contender Otto Wallin (22-1, 14 KOs) continued his rise in the division with a unanimous decision over former world title challenger Dominic Breazeale (20-3, 18 KOs). The judges scored the fight 117-111, 116-112 and 118-110. 📧 Contact Email: info@FightView360.com Follow On TWITTER: https://twitter.com/TstreeT4Life FACEBOOK: TstreeT UNCUT **Copyright Disclaimer under section 107 of the Copyright Act of 1976, allowance is made for “fair use” for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, education and research.
