💥 FIGHT UPDATE 💥 Four-Time World Champion and must-see attraction Adrien "The Problem" Broner will end his two-year hiatus from boxing when he faces Jovanie Santiago in a 12-round headlining super lightweight bout on Saturday, February 20, on Showtime. FIGHT NIGHT DETAILS 📰: https://pbcham.ps/FightNight-2-20-21 ***************************************************************************** (July 29, 2017) Head tilted slightly downward and eyes focused forward, Mikey Garcia seemingly saw nothing other than the obstacle in front of him: Adrien Broner. Mikey Garcia impressively earned a unanimous decision over Adrien Broner in a 140-pound clash of multi-division world champions on July 29, 2017 on PBC on Showtime. Moving up in weight to face “The Problem,” Garcia remained in constant control of their 140-pound showdown, turning in a dominating performance to earn a unanimous decision before a crowd of 12,084 at Barclays Center. With his victory over Broner, a former four-division world champion, Garcia further elevated his status as one of the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters. Garcia, a three-division world champion and current 135-pound titleholder, landed 244 of 783 total punches (31 percent) to Broner’s 125 of 400 (31 percent. His edge was even more apparent in power punches, with Garcia connecting on 152 of 328 (46 percent) and Broner landing 72 of 161 (45 percent). The 29-year-old Southern California native calmly dictated the distance between himself and Broner, and stayed in his opponent’s face for almost the entire fight. After a slow first round that Broner won on all three official scorecards, Garcia went to work as he began to pick apart his opponent. Over the next several rounds, Garcia showed off an impressive arsenal as he used his jab to penetrate Broner’s high guard before slipping shots to the body. By the latter rounds, it was all but apparent that Broner needed a knockout to win, but even then, Garcia was able to counter the Cincinnati native’s desperate attempts. In the end, Garcia easily prevailed by scores of 117-111 and 116-112 twice. Garcia, who earned his 135-pound world title in January with a third-round KO of unbeaten champion Dejan Zlaticanin, said he would weigh his options before considering his next fight. While Garcia has returned to a place among boxing’s elite after returning to the ring a year ago following a contractual dispute that kept him inactive for 30 months, Broner is left to ponder his future after losing for the second time in five fights and for the first time in his career at 140 pounds or less. #BronerGarcia #AdrienBroner #MikeyGarcia Visit PremierBoxingChampions.com for more info. On January 14, 2017, Gervonta Davis overpowered 130-pound world champion Jose Pedraza, winning his first title by seventh-round TKO. Gervonta Davis predicted he would knock out 130-pound champion Jose Pedraza, but was noncommittal on when the stoppage would occur, suggesting it could happen in “the eighth, nine or 10th round.” In the end, the 5-foot-6 “Tank” sold himself a little short. After overpowering Pedraza (22-1, 12 KOs) for much of the fight, Davis (17-0, 16 KOs) finished off the Puerto Rican champion with a vicious right hook to the jaw late in the seventh round, earning a TKO victory. By picking up his eight eight consecutive stoppage victory, the 22-year-old Davis claimed a world title in his first-ever championship opportunity. And while he more than earned that title with a dominant performance, he also got a lot of help from his opponent, who employed an odd strategy from the get-go in his third title defense. Despite having a significant height and reach advantage, the 5-foot-8½ Pedraza chose to come out and pressure his smaller-but-stronger opponent with a come-forward style rather than box from the outside. Making matters worse, Pedraza—a naturally orthodox fighter who has the ability to switch-hit—decided to fight almost exclusively from a southpaw stance. That game plan completely backfired, as Davis immediately took advantage of Pedraza’s aggression, repeatedly piercing his defense with pinpoint body shots and uppercuts with either hand as well as his overhand left. Composed beyond his years, Davis flat-out punished Pedraza in the first three rounds, which the challenger swept on all three scorecards. Then in the fourth, when Pedraza raised both hands to his head, Davis went downstairs and hammered the body. The undefeated champion did manage to gain some momentum toward the end of the fourth and carried it over to the fifth, when he increased his punch output significantly. But whatever momentum Davis lost he regained with a single punch early in the sixth: a left hook to the liver that caused Pedraza to double over. Knowing he had his man hurt, Davis went on the attack while Pedraza went into survival mode, dropping his right arm to guard against another body shot. Somehow, Pedraza managed to get through the sixth, but it would be the last round he would finish. Back firmly in control of the fight, Davis unleashed a vicious right hand to the jaw late in Round 7 that put Pedraza on his backside in a corner of the ring. Knocked down for the first time as a pro, Pedraza sat on the canvas until referee Ricky Gonzalez reached the count of nine, then made it to his feet. However, Gonzalez quickly deemed Pedraza unfit to continue, waving an end to the fight—and Pedraza’s reign as champion—at the 2:36 mark. #JosePedraza #GervontaDavis #PedrazaDavis Visit PremierBoxingChampions.com for more info. Two-division world champion Danny "Swift Garcia scored a dominant unanimous decision victory over Ivan "El Terrible" Redkach in their WBC Welterweight Title Eliminator Saturday night, headlining the action live on SHOWTIME from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™, in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions. "I want to thank team Garcia and all my fans in Brooklyn who came out to see me fight," said Garcia, after he was announced as the winner. Garcia (36-2, 21 KOs) was sharp from the outset, finding a place for his right hand against the aggressive southpaw Redkach (23-5-1, 18 KOs). Garcia kept Redkach weary of his offense by punctuating his combinations with his signature left hook. Redkach's offense was centered around landing a straight left hand to the midsection of Garcia, which he was able to place effectively at times. As the fight wore on, Garcia found more holes in Redkach's defense, stumbling Redkach with a left hook early in round four, and battering him with straight right hands late in round five. Garcia continued his dominance in the seventh round, landing numerous power punches that caused blood to trickle from Redkach's left eye. Garcia's dominance continued to the final round, ending with advantages across the board according to CompuBox. Garcia landed 51% of his power punches, held Redkach to just 88 punches landed and out landed Redkach by over 100 punches. "I thought the referee was going to stop it because I felt like I was punishing him," said Garcia. "He's a tough guy, he hung in there, I wanted to get the KO, but I didn't get it. I feel like I boxed smart, and I feel like that's what I needed after this layoff. I really wanted the knockout bad, but I'll accept this. "I'm not going to lie, I felt good, but I didn't feel my best. I did lose a lot of weight for this fight, so maybe that played a factor. From a long layoff, and just losing so much weight. I lost about 25 pounds in eight weeks." After 12 rounds of action, the judges were in agreement, giving Garcia the edge by final scores of 118-110 and 117-111 twice. "I promised myself that I'm going to stay in the gym now and stay in shape," said Garcia. "I felt regular, but then when I got on the scale a few weeks ago, I was like 'woah.' So maybe that played a factor, maybe it didn't. I make no excuses. I didn't feel my best, but I felt good." "This was very good experience for me," said Redkach. "He never had me hurt and I was able to learn a lot. I'm thankful to be in this position that my team put me in and I'm going to keep growing from here. I'm going to get back in the gym and get stronger and better. I'm thankful for the experience against Danny Garcia. I'm going to be back and be much better." After the fight, Garcia set his sights on the elite fighters in the welterweight division, including unified champion Errol Spence Jr. and WBA champion Manny Pacquiao. "Either or (Spence or Pacquiao)," said Garcia. "Either of those fights I would like to have. My style looks great against both fighters." #DannyGarcia #GarciaRedkach #FullFight Visit PremierBoxingChampions.com for more info.
