Career Simón debuted in the national team at age of 17. He was Cuban national team captain for 5 years. In 2009 he achieved individual awards at 2009 World Grand Champions Cup. In 2010 Cuba, including Simon, went to the finale of 2010 World Championship with Brazil. On October 10, 2010 he achieved silver medal. He was Best Blocker of the tournament. Simon was champion of the Italian Cup 2013/14 and of the Challenge Cup 2012/13 with Piacenza. He used to be the world’s Best Middle Blocker before he left Cuba in 2010 right after the 2010 World Championship to pursue his dreams and to make a decent living overseas. Simon helped Al Rayyan to win the 2014 Club World Championship. He was the most expensive player in South Korea League from 2014 to 2016. Simon joined Brazilian club Sada Cruzeiro in 2016. Style of play Simon touched 384 cm and, according to his coach, has reached a record of 389 cm. This happened during the athletic test for the Piacenza team at Serie A1. O ano era 2012, e o Sada Cruzeiro, campeão da Superliga 2011/12, chegou eufórico em Doha, no Qatar, para a disputa do seu primeiro Mundial de Clubes. Tudo era novidade e o primeiro feito foi chegar à final, sendo o único brasileiro a ganhar uma vaga na disputa, desde 1991. Na final, melhor para o italiano Trentino, que venceu e garantiu o tetracampeonato. Para os cruzeirenses, a marca histórica, com a medalha de prata, já foi motivo de muita celebração. Nove anos depois, com a vitória neste sábado, 11/12, sobre o Lube Civitanova por 3 a 0, o Sada Cruzeiro fincou ainda mais firmemente seu posto entre os melhores do mundo, com quatro títulos de campeão do planeta, diminuindo consideravelmente a distância para aquele time que enfrentou lá atrás, acreditando em um duelo Davi contra Golias, em Doha, no Qatar. Agora são cinco taças para o Trentino e quatro troféus de melhor do mundo para o time criado exatamente em Betim, em 2006. E o primeiro campeão do mundo fora da itália segue derrubando marcas e grandes adversários. Fundador do time, Vittorio Medioli exaltou a conquista e a consistência do projeto. “Era tudo muito no começo, mas já acreditávamos que poderíamos chegar aos vértices mundiais, e não perdemos oportunidades. Na primeira vez chegamos na metade do prato, depois de um ano garantimos a taça, e hoje já é a quarta no Mundial. Essa de hoje é a mais importante, porque vencemos com o nosso projeto, com atletas que nós criamos, com Rodriguinho, Cachopa, Wallace, Isac, muitos no banco, e todos foram igualmente importantes. Vencemos também com um treinador que ninguém acreditava no início. Tinha fila dos melhores treinadores do mundo querendo conduzir o time. E eu apostei no Filipe, exatamente pra dar continuidade a tudo aquilo que cresceu e se desenvolveu dentro de casa. É uma satisfação maior ainda, apostar em gente nossa e chegar ao topo do mundo”, disse Medioli. No atual grupo do Sada Cruzeiro, o assistente Beto Martelete esteve com o grupo desde o início, em 2006, e não escondeu a emoção. “Nem nos nossos melhores sonhos a gente imaginava que iria conquistar tanto. A gente viu o Sada desde o início na sua formação, e hoje a gente vê hoje essa potência mundial, nacional. E eu fico cada dia mais feliz e orgulhoso por estar vestindo essa camisa, porque eu posso falar que eu fiz parte de todo o início até hoje. É surreal. É emoção demais!”, afirmou Beto. The 34-year-old Olympic champion veteran returned to Sada Cruzeiro ahead of the 2021-2022 season after five years playing for other clubs and won his third world title with the Betim side. Two young Lube players reached double digits in scoring in the final match of the tournament – Cuban outside hitter Marlon Yant, who scored 11 points, all in kills, and Puerto Rican opposite Gabriel Garcia, who reached the same amount with nine kills and two aces. “We feel like we accomplished our mission here,” middle blocker Isac Santos reflected. “We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but we gave everything we had and we earned it. We never expected a 3-0 victory in the final, but we know that when we’re focused, we’re really hard to beat. We approached every match as a final and played with a lot of intensity and focus.” Sada Cruzeiro also dominated the tournament’s Dream Team with four of the seven selected players. Besides Lopez and Wallace, the hosts also had setter Fernando ‘Cachopa’ Kreling and middle blocker Otavio Pinto in the ideal lineup. Lube’s Robertlandy Simon (middle blocker) and Fabio Balaso (libero) and Trentino’s Alessandro Michieletto (outside hitter) completed the team. The triumph was also remarkable for head coach Filipe Ferraz, who captained Sada Cruzeiro to their first three world titles as a player. Appointed as the team’s new coach following his retirement at the end of the last club season, the 41-year-old Filipe celebrated his third title as a coach after victories in the Mineiro Championship and the Brazilian Supercup. “Not even in my greatest dreams could I have expected such a great start to my coaching career," he said. "Winning the Club World Championship after just six months as a coach is unbelievable. I can only thank the club, the coaching staff and the players as they believed my ideas from the first minute and worked hard for it. I’m really proud to continue defending Sada Cruzeiro.
