The Montreal Canadiens had a chance to grab full control of the series, but instead the Buffalo Sabres punched back in Game 4 with a gritty 3-2 win to even things up 2-2. Alex Newhook stayed absolutely nuclear with another goal, Cole Caufield scored again on the powerplay, but Montreal’s special teams ultimately let them down in a game filled with missed opportunities. Buffalo capitalized twice on the man advantage, including Zach Benson’s birthday game-winner in the third period, while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen returned to the crease and stabilized the Sabres after rough outings from Alex Lyon. The winner of this series faces the Oklahoma City Thunder, who swept the Los Angeles Lakers in four games and have been waiting on deck. The stakes could not be any higher. A trip to the Western Conference Finals is on the line tonight in San Antonio. --- THE BIG PICTURE This Spurs team was supposed to be building for the future. Instead they are one win away from the Conference Finals with their franchise player healthy and back in the lineup and the home crowd behind them.
