Verizon Game Rewind | Warriors Blast Off Against Rockets in Win - March 17, 2021
Verizon Game Rewind | Warriors Blast Off Against Rockets in Win - March 17, 2021

The Warriors entered this first game of their three-game road trip coming off of a 31-point loss on Monday night, but came back with a vengeance against the Houston Rockets in the Toyota Center, trouncing the young and rebuilding Rockets with a 108-94 on Wednesday night to deal Houston their 18th consecutive loss. The difference was made in the second quarter when the Dubs outscored the Rockets 37-17 as part of a “Poole Party” from Jordan Poole. The sophomore guard came off the bench with 15 points in the frame including four 3-pointers on six attempts. His output matched that of Andrew Wiggins for team-high through the first half. As they headed into halftime, the Dubs had a 68-44 lead that the squad did not give up for the remainder of the game. The Warriors now head to Memphis where they will wrap up their three-game road trip with back-to-back games, starting with a matchup on Friday night (5 p.m., NBCSBA).

Verizon Game Rewind | Warriors Falter in First Game Back From All-Star Break - March 11, 2021

Both the Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers showed some early All-Star break rust, but the Warriors were unable to shake theirs while the Clippers vaulted themselves into a comfortable lead with a big second quarter and downed the Dubs 130-104 Thursday at Staples Center. The Dubs now prepare for a home back-to-back at Chase Center against two more of the top teams in the Western Conference as they face the Utah Jazz on Sunday (1 p.m., NBCSBA, NBA TV), followed by the Los Angeles Lakers. Verizon Game Rewind | Dubs Close Out First Half With 120-98 Loss to Phoenix Suns - March 4, 2021
Verizon Game Rewind | Dubs Close Out First Half With 120-98 Loss to Phoenix Suns - March 4, 2021

The Warriors were without Stephen Curry (rest) and Draymond Green (ankle) and Kelly Oubre Jr. (wrist), so it was a night for the younger Dubs to feature their skills in Thursday’s matchup against the scorching-hot Phoenix Suns. Despite a career-high 26 points from Jordan Poole, a double-double from James Wiseman and 16 points from Andrew Wiggins, the squad dropped this game 120-98 for their third loss in a row to end the first half of the NBA season. The Dubs were unable to hold back the Suns in the end of the first quarter as they closed the frame out on a 10-0 run for a 34-23 lead. But the ultimate trouble came as Phoenix kept that momentum up through the second quarter and expanded said run, making it 26-8 and expanding that lead up to 20 points. It was a deficit the Dubs were unable to work their way out of.

Verizon Game Rewind | Warriors vs. Trail Blazers Went Down To The Wire In Portland - March 3, 2021
Verizon Game Rewind | Warriors vs. Trail Blazers Went Down To The Wire In Portland - March 3, 2021

There have been several memorable Stephen Curry-Damian Lillard battles over the years, and you can add one more chapter to that book after the Warriors’ 108-106 loss in Portland on Wednesday night. Both players had big moments in the fourth quarter, but Lillard’s go-ahead 3-pointer with 14.0 seconds left in the game, and a game-saving defensive play on the ensuing possession, left the Dubs with a disappointing defeat. Stephen Curry had 35 points and Draymond Green had 12 assists and nine rebounds, not to mention a go-ahead 3-pointer as the shot clock was winding down just moments before Lillard’s eventual game-winner, but the Warriors wound up falling just short. Lillard shot just 6-for-17 from the field for 22 points, but he had eight points in the final 2:06 of the game, and a game-saving defensive play when he drew a charge on Draymond Green on a potential game-tying possession for the Warriors. But the Warriors still had a chance when the Blazers missed a pair of free throws in the closing seconds. Damion Lee grabbed a defensive rebound on the second missed free throw, took a few dribbles up the court and launched a potential game-winning shot from half-court as time expired. The shot fell short, and the Warriors lost the season series with Portland, 2-1. A close game for the final three and a half quarters, neither team led by more than six points in the second half. The game featured 13 lead changes, 11 of which came in the final two quarters. In fact, each of the four quarters were decided by three points or less. Although it was close, the Warriors led for most of the game. They scored the first 10 points of the game and held a 13-point lead early, but Portland had an answer and the Warriors could never create enough separation. Andrew Wiggins had 14 points and Kent Bazemore added 12 while starting in place of Kelly Oubre Jr., who sat out the game after spraining his left wrist in practice on Tuesday, but the Warriors shot just 42.3 percent from the floor and were outscored 22-9 on free throws. That, along with Lillard’s late-game heroics, proved to be the difference. The Warriors won’t have much time to think about this one, as they will play their final game before the All-Star break on Thursday in Phoenix. Game Rewind || @verizon

Verizon Game Rewind | Warriors Win a Wild One over the Heat - Feb. 17, 2021
Verizon Game Rewind | Warriors Win a Wild One over the Heat - Feb. 17, 2021

The Warriors didn’t hold a lead until 51 minutes and 28 seconds into the game, but somehow, someway posted an improbable 120-112 overtime win over the Heat at Chase Center on Wednesday night. The Dubs forced overtime with a 20-6 run to close the fourth quarter, and two 3-pointers from Stephen Curry and another from Andrew Wiggins in the extra period proved huge in the Warriors’ first overtime victory since December 18, 2017. The path to this victory was an unusual one to say the least. The Dubs were undersized, undermanned and trailed by 15 points in the fourth quarter against the reigning Eastern Conference champs. Add to that the fact that Curry, a two-time NBA MVP who had been on a roll, was having a rough shooting night, and Draymond Green (right ankle soreness) was a late scratch, and the deck was stacked against the Warriors. But big performances from Kent Bazemore and Kelly Oubre Jr. kept the Warriors in the game, and Curry closed out the overtime period with a pair of dagger threes to lift the Warriors to the win. Bazemore kept the Warriors in the game early with two first-quarter 3-pointers, and he came through late with eight straight Warriors points bridging the third and fourth quarters, the last being a tip-in with 1:38 left in overtime that gave the Dubs their first lead of the game. Bazemore finished the game with a season-high 26 points, his second straight game setting a season-high in scoring after his 24-point effort in Monday’s win over Cleveland. Bazemore led the way in keeping the Dubs in the game, and Curry overcame a rough shooting night and delivered late. His step-back 3-pointer with 1:15 left in the game put the Warriors in front for good, and on the team’s next possession he assisted an Andrew Wiggins 3-pointer from the corner. Miami answered with a Duncan Robinson 3-pointer, but Curry then followed with another trey that all but sealed the game, putting the Dubs up six with 17.0 seconds left in the game. Curry finished the night with 25 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds. He was 8-for-25 from the floor, ending his streak of 10 straight games scoring at least 25 points on 50 percent or better shooting, the longest such streak by an NBA guard since Michael Jordan (11 games) in 1995-96. With Curry having an off-night in terms of shooting percentage, Bazemore, Oubre and Wiggins picked up the slack. All three wings made four 3-pointers apiece, and Oubre and Wiggins each finished with 23 points and eight rebounds, and Eric Paschall gave the Warriors some big minutes off the bench, tallying his third-straight double-digit scoring performance (11 points).
