The Dallas Mavericks defeated the LA Clippers 123-93 to take a 3-2 lead. Luka Dončić led the way with 35 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists, while James Harden notably struggled. The guard finished with seven points (2-of-12 shooting) and four turnovers. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes react to Luka's big game, then discuss whether Harden is the biggest reason the Clippers lost. They then react to the Boston Celtics completing the Gentleman's Sweep of the Miami Heat. #FirstThingsFirst #NBA #LukaDončić SUBSCRIBE to get the latest from First Things First: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeFIRSTTHINGSFIRST The all-new FOX Sports App, built for the modern sports fan: https://tinyurl.com/y4uouolb ►Watch the latest content from First Things First: https://foxs.pt/LatestOnFIRSTTHINGSFIRST ▶ The Carton Show's YouTube channel: http://sprtspod.fox/SubscribeCartonShow ▶ The Herd with Colin Cowherd’s YouTube channel: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeTHEHERD ► UNDISPUTED’s YouTube channel: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeUNDISPUTED ► Speak's YouTube channel: http://sprtspod.fox/SUBSCRIBEtoSpeak ► The Skip Bayless Show YouTube channel: http://sprtspod.fox/SUBSCRIBESkipShow ► What's Wright? with Nick Wright YouTube channel: http://sprtspod.fox/whatswright/youtube See more from First Things First: http://foxs.pt/FIRSTTHINGSFIRSTFoxSports Like First Things First on Facebook: http://foxs.pt/FIRSTTHINGSFIRSTFacebook Follow First Things First on Twitter: http://foxs.pt/FIRSTTHINGSFIRSTTwitter Follow First Things First on Instagram: http://foxs.pt/FIRSTTHINGSFIRSTInstagram Follow Nick Wright on Twitter: http://foxs.pt/NickWrightTwitter Follow Chris Broussard on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Chris_Broussard Follow Kevin Wildes on Twitter: https://foxs.pt/KevinWildesTwitter About First Things First: Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes team up on First Things First. The GENIUS Defensive Adjustment From LUKA And The Mavs...
The GENIUS Defensive Adjustment From LUKA And The Mavs...

Join me on RateGame: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6477869711?pt=126905374&ct=Heat%20Check%201&mt=8 The Mavs had a do or die game plan on defense. A radical approach that ended up working geniously for them. But before even getting to that, it all started with their hounding one on one defense. Look, this is the first minute of the game, and Derick Jones Jr is picking up PG way past half court. The Clippers could not even look at the basket for this entire possession, for the full 24 seconds as we see Kyrie poking it out of Harden’s hands and forcing a shot clock violation. Just look at these contests here both on Paul George and James Harden, the guys that went off for 66 points in the previous games, were only allowed 6 for 25 in this one. A phenomenal job of honing in on Harden and PG, and great on ball defense. But this was actually the trick for Dallas. The Mavs went all out on stopping these 2, clogging the paint and completely sagged off of the other Clippers players. And there is probably no better example of that than this. Almost every Dallas defender is in the paint, and they’re not even looking at Westbrook as he’s all alone in the corner, he gets it, fires away and misses. Check out where Doncic is on this dance by Harden. He’s clearly ready to help on the drive and not worrying about Terrance Mann being open here. So as the ball goes to him, Luka makes an effort to get back, Mann shoots and another miss. Again, at this point it’s comical how Dallas is begging Russ to shoot, and he actually does it, allowing for some easy defensive possessions for the Mavs. Even on the occasional make by the Clippers, there was no change of plan. You can see that Kyrie is not even looking at Coffee, the focus is to help on the Harden penetration. As we stop it right here both Coffee and Mann are completely wide open as the paint is packed. Now, as we let it roll, the ball goes out, and he knocks down this 3 pointer, but Dallas did not panic whatsoever and stuck to their strategy. So what happened? Well, at one point LA missed 16 3 pointers in a row. 16 straight. Watching all of this James Harden may have had an ugly flashback to the infamous game 7 against Golden State where his team missed 27 straight. Some of it may be good fortune for the Mavs here, but a lot of these are definitely based on the good game plan, knowing who to focus on and who to leave open and invite him to shoot. Then, there were also a lot of live turnovers leading to this. Maaan, Kyrie doing ridiculous Kyrie things here in transition, toying with his opponents. And as it turned out, Luka was doing Luka things as well because… Doncic had 35 in this game but it was the 10 assists for me, creating easy points for his teammates. And it sure feels good when it’s one of those days and a role player steps up and helps the team by shooting absolutely lights out, which was Maxey Kleber in this one. Kleber went 5 of 7 from downtown, that’s 15 bonus points on the road to secure a crucial game 5 win, now going back home with a chance to seal the deal in this tough first round matchup. If the Mavs can get even close to what they did here defensively, they will be in a great position for a game 6 win. This is peak playoffs, and we are getting peak playoff drama, with Lebron shocking everyone, hinting that this may have been his last game as a Laker. You gotta check out this video right here. Talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

Nuggets’ Jamal Murray Hits Another Game-Winner To End Lakers’ Season. After finally snapping their losing streak to the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 to stave off elimination, the Los Angeles Lakers looked to build off that in Game 5 back at Ball Arena. #NBA #LAKERS #NUGGETS The Lakers’ season was of course still on the line with them facing a 3-1 series deficit, and it came to an unfortunate end on another Jamal Murray buzzer-beater to secure a 108-106 victory for the Nuggets. Murray was a game-time decision due to a left calf strain but was able to give it a go and got the scoring started with the first six points for his team to give the Nuggets a 6-3 lead. After Darvin Ham won an early challenge on an Austin Reaves foul call on a Murray 3-point attempt, the Lakers responded with eight straight points to take their first lead and force a Denver timeout. Unfortunately though, Rui Hachimura missed some wide open looks while Jamal Murray stayed hot to put the Nuggets up 16-13. From there though, the Nuggets started committing some silly turnovers with LeBron James and Anthony Davis taking advantage in the paint. Denver ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run, however, taking a 28-24 lead. After a rough first quarter, D’Angelo Russell got on the scoreboard with a layup to begin the second before connecting from deep. James and Davis continued to do work inside from there with the Lakers locking in defensively to take a 41-34 advantage with a 12-0 run of their own. The rest of the second quarter was a lot of back-and-forth scoring as well as bad turnovers by each team. For the fifth straight time though, the Lakers went into the halftime locker room with a lead at 53-50. Hachimura missed a number of wide open shots in the first half but began the third quarter by hitting one from deep. Davis was then hit on the shoulder by Michael Porter Jr. and went down in a lot of pain although ultimately was able to stay in there for his team despite clearly not being at 100%. With Davis hobbled, other guys needed to step up and James sense that, scoring five straight to increase the lead to nine. Naturally though, Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets responded with five quick points of their own to keep it close. After a four-point play by Porter, the game was tied and the Denver crowd was rocking. Davis was forced back to the locker room from there, and the Nuggets kept that momentum rolling. Sensing things slipping away though, James and the Lakers had a nice response to close the third, getting within two at 81-79. Given how poorly both teams played in the first three quarters, it made sense that things were close going into the final stretch, tied at 95 with four minutes to play. Of course it was Jokic that put the Nuggets up two in the final couple minutes, although the Lakers quickly answered back with a Reaves 3. Inability to get a rebound hurt the Lakers though and Murray made them pay with a three to go up two. James as then fouled and went to the line to tie it with 26 seconds to play and did exactly that. Again though, Murray hit the game-winner and the Lakers season came to an end.
