HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Landry Shamet scored 19 points, and No. 19 Wichita State ended the nation's longest home-court winning streak, beating No. 5 Cincinnati 76-72 on Sunday to leave the American Athletic Conference race wide-open. The Shockers (21-5, 11-3 American) beat a Top 5 team on the road for the first time since 1964. They led most of the way, building an 11-point lead midway through the second half and holding on. Shaquille Morris' dunk with 5 seconds left finished it off. The Bearcats (23-4, 12-2 American) had their 39-game home-court winning streak snapped. Cincinnati hasn't beaten a ranked team all season, falling to 0-3 with losses to Xavier and Florida. Cincinnati and Wichita State were expected to contend for the title in the Shockers' first season in the AAC. Wichita State gave itself a chance with a solid all-around game led by its point guard. Shamut had 16 points in the first half, when the Shockers shredded the nation's second-ranked defense to take control. Wichita State closes the regular season by hosting Cincinnati on March 4. Houston (21-5, 11-3) also is in the running for the league title after beating Temple on Sunday. The Shockers hit seven of eight shots during a 17-3 run that gave them a 34-23 lead. Cincinnati responded by turning up its full-court defense, forcing three quick turnovers, and going on a run that cut the deficit to 42-40 at halftime. The Shockers showed a little defense of their own, forcing five turnovers while rebuilding their lead to 59-48 with 11 minutes left, matching its biggest of the game. Cincinnati closed to 72-70 on Trevon Scott's dunk with 13 seconds left, but the Shockers scored on a pair of full-court inbound passes, the last to Morris that provided the final margin. NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Nate Pierre-Louis scored 18 points and Shizz Alston Jr. had 15 points and a career-high 10 assists in Temple's 83-76 victory over Tulane on Sunday. Quinton Rose added 12 points and Obi Enechionyia 11 while Ernest Aflakpui had 10 rebounds with eight points for the Owls (13-10, 5-6 American Athletic Conference), who were coming off an overtime win over No. 16 Wichita State on Thursday and have now won three straight. Temple made 12 of 25 from the arc with Enechionyia and Alston getting three each. Alston posted the Owls' first points-assists double-double since 2014. Jordan Cornish scored 20 points, Samir Sehic had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Cameron Reynolds added 16 points and 10 boards with five assists for the Green Wave (13-9, 4-6). GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Rauno Nurger scored 14 points and fifth-ranked Wichita State shook off a slow start to roll past East Carolina 95-60 on Thursday night. Shaquille Morris added 12 points for the Shockers (14-2), who improved to 4-0 in their first season in the American Athletic Conference. Wichita State trailed 14-9 early after a 3-for-12 shooting start, but the Shockers quickly settled in to take complete control. Wichita State went ahead for good on a 15-0 run, part of a 36-9 avalanche to close the first half and drain the fight out of a once-feisty Minges Coliseum crowd. By the time the Shockers added two more baskets to open the second half, Wichita State led 49-23 and soon had many fans streaming toward the exits. B.J. ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Dayon Griffin scored 15 points and UCF's top-10 ranked defense smothered Temple 60-39 on Sunday. Griffin made a trio of 3-pointers with Ceasar DeJesus adding 13 points and Tacko Fall nine rebounds to go with seven points for UCF (12-4, 3-1 American Athletic), which won for the eighth time in nine games. Nate Pierre-Louis led Temple with 13 points. The Owls shot only 32 percent and made just 4 of 22 3-point tries against a Knights defense that came in ranked sixth nationally, holding opponents to 60.2 points per game. Temple had just one free-throw attempt. The Owls trailed 36-31 in the second half before going without a point for over 10 1/2 minutes, dropping behind by 19 points with 4:41 to go. The Knights' lead grew to as many as 23 points late. Temple led for a seven-minute stretch in the first half before a 3-pointer by Griffin started a 14-0 run that ended with UCF leading by 10 on its way to a 29-22 advantage at halftime.
