Aside from the stockpile of future draft picks that the Thunder have, GM Sam Presti has assembled a nice young core headlined by franchise player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Australian rookie Josh Giddey who was drafted 6th overall in the 2021 NBA draft. However, third year defensive stopper Luguentz Dort is proving to be one of the most important pieces of this young Oklahoma City Thunder team as well. So far, Lu Dort, the undrafted Canadian player is averaging career-highs on most statistical categories. For so long, Dort has been known for his defense and for locking down players like James Harden, Lebron James, and Damian Lillard. This season though, Luguentz Dort is displaying offensive improvement. So far, among active NBA players, Dort owns the 2nd longest streak of consecutive games with at least 1 made three pointer only next to Stephen Curry. Aside from Lu Dort Lucky as hell Lebron didn’t see that or the Chess Match between Damian Lillard and Lu Dort videos, Dort has done a lot this season. After dropping a career-high 42 points against the Utah Jazz and after hitting the game-winning three against the San Antonio Spurs, Lu Dort has scored the game-winning layup against the Sacramento Kings after stealing the ball from De’Aaron Fox this season. The Okc Thunder beat the Los Angeles Lakers and a lot of other good teams this season and Dort has been a great piece of the team alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey, Darius Bazley, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Aleksej Pokusevski, Tre Mann, and the rest of the Thunder’s young core. But is Luguentz Dort worth a max contract? The OKC Thunder will have to decide whether to sign Dort to a max deal as he enters unrestricted free agency in 2023. Will he continue to form the OKC Thunder’s young core for the future together with SGA, Josh Giddey, and the rest of the group? Lu Dort is not just the unknown rookie who locked up James Harden in the bubble two seasons ago anymore.
