When West Indies smashed 222 in the third T20I it seemed England would return home empty-handed. It’s pertinent to note that England had suffered a 2-1 defeat in ODIs. The tourists go into the final T20I as the favourites now. A quick change in fortunes courtesy two dominant batting displays. It’s 2-2 and all to play for at Brian Lara Stadium Tarouba Trinidad. England created history in the third T20I by registering their third-highest successful chase in the format – the top-2 came against South Africa. Phil Salt’s unbeaten century skipper Jos Buttler’s fifty and Harry Brook’s cameo against Andre Russell – the England batter smashed 24 off the final over – powered England home in a final-over thriller at St George’s Grenada. Salt followed up his unbeaten 109 off 56 balls with a 57-ball 119 as England crushed West Indies by 75 runs completing a series-levelling win in Trinidad. Buttler and Liam Livingstone also had a great time in the penultimate T20I as they hit fifties to support Salt. Defending 267 England struck at regular intervals and the hosts folded for 192 in the 16th over. Reece Topley grabbed three scalps while Sam Curran and Rehan Ahmed picked up two apiece. Buttler lauded his teammates for their strength of character after being 0-2 down at one stage and had special words of praise for Salt who has smacked a colossal 19 sixes and 11 fours across two T20I innings. “We showed so much character Buttler said at the fourth T20I’s post-match presentation. “I’m proud of the group. We were down but seems a confident changing room now. It has been an enjoyable partnership with Salt. He is playing brilliantly well.” England’s bowling needs some work. But they’ve the momentum and it’ll about keeping things simple and ending the tour on a high. West Indies on the other hand have lost their way after they had taken an early lead in the five-match series. Their batters got starts in the fourth T20I but they failed to stitch consistent partnerships. Russell has struggled with the ball after his three-wicket haul in the first T20I at Bridgetown Barbados. Shimron Hetmyer has been dropped following his poor showings with the bat. Rovman Powell the West Indies T20 skipper isn’t perturbed with two consecutive losses and is focussed on strategizing well for the series finale. “The boys like a final. We will come back with brand new ideas and a brand new game plan Powell expressed. “The fifth T20I provides an opportunity for us to do that. Sometimes when things are not going your way. You just back off. We will let them take some time off and spend it with themselves. It is a thinking game.”

Two giants of the game take on each other at Boland Park in Paarl in what is a decisive contest to see who reigns supreme as the ODI series is currently deadlocked at 1-1. Even though the T20I series finished on level terms as one of the games was washed out the winner will certainly have a lasting impression. India had a memorable outing with the ball in the first ODI in Johannesburg as Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan accounted for 9 of the 10 wickets and bundled out the opposition for just 116 runs. Arshdeep was the star with a maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs and then Sai Sudharsan the debutant notched up a classical 50 to bring an even bigger smile on the faces of the Indian coaching staff and fans. Bright and sunny with no chances of rain. However it was a different story in the 2nd ODI at Gqeberha as the Indian batters faltered but Sai yet again proved mettle and skipper Rahul too made a half-century. The bowlers didn't have much to bowl at and did beat the bat quite a lot but just didn't have the cutting edge especially the spinners who were largely ineffective and dealt with ease. South Africa vs India 3rd ODI Which team will win the series finale? Toss Update South Africa won toss opted to bowl first. South Africa on the other hand needed something to give after a couple of really shoddy batting performances against the same side and at the same venue but they did turn it all around. Nandre Burger bowled fast and accurately picking up early wickets for his team and setting it all up. The duo of Lizaad Williams and Beuran Hendricks were also top-notch and troubled the Indian batters eventually restricting them to an under-par total. With just 213 runs to win the opening pair of Tony de Zorzi Hendricks started off cautiously but the former did go for his shots every now and then. Both raked in half-centuries but Hendricks never looked settled and got out but de Zorzi went from strength to strength bringing up a maiden ODI ton took his side over the line. Now the final game looms large before the action moves to Test cricket and the sides seem pretty evenly matched. Who are you backing to win? Paarl's pitch like its predecessors in the rubber should provide a fitting stage. The crowd will grace the occasion with verve. All that will be needed for the match to live up to its billing is for the players to do something worth watching; something we hadn't thought would happen. Like Arshdeep Singh's 5/37 at the Wanderers or Tony de Zorzi's unbeaten 119 at St George's Park. see how India could improve on their XI. South Africa are unchanged from the last ODI. Let the moneyballers and analysts plot every twist and turn of a match before it happens. Let the unimaginative coddle themselves with their consistency coda. Let those who have eyes only for one team and its players refuse to look up from their obsession. Let the rest of us watch a game of cricket because we don't know what might happen. Otherwise what would be the point? given that conditions in Paarl are likely to be similar to those in Gqeberha. What to expect: Thirty-six degree heat hardly a soothing breeze not a drop of rain a slowish pitch - 300 has been passed three times in the 15 men's ODIs played here but not 400 - and the most joyous crowd in the country; perhaps in all of cricket. That move would bolster LSG's middle order they definitely need a backup Indian batter or two. While they have promising fast bowlers like Mohsin LSG would likely target experienced Indian seamer to bolster that attack especially after the departures of Unadkat Avesh. Punjab Kings: Punjab Kings do have a fairly settled first choice XI at their disposal but lack of quality Indian batters a backup will be a cause concern. They would ideally like one overseas backup batter well having released Rajapaksa. Rahul is the only wrist spinner in entire squad there is a lot of reliance on him to pick wickets in the middle overs. Kolkata Knight Riders: With a strong Indian core in the batting department KKR have other areas to focus. Their openers Gurbaz Roy have been a bit inconsistent so they might another overseas opener to challenge the duo. But definitely need least one solid overseas keeper a local keeper in that squad. KKR don't have any experience apart from Russell. Delhi Capitals: With doubts persisting over Rishabh Pant's ability to keep wickets in the tournament Delhi Capitals would want another keeper apart from Porel in the squad. DC's biggest issue has been the lack of reliable finishers. Given they might also need a keeper someone like Josh Inglis will be a useful addition given his flexibility with the bat. Mumbai Indians: Hardik's return makes them look very strong but they have one glaring weakness in that spin department. Chawla and Kartikeya have been decent but everything points towards one huge attempt to add Hasaranga to their ranks. It won't be easy given they have multiple players to be added to their squad with a small budget. Royal Challengers Bangalore: A proven overseas fast bowler and a good overseas spinner will be on the agenda having released Josh Hazlewood and Hasaranga. Shahbaz departure will make them target Indian spinner as well. Vyshak had his moments last time but Patel's exit might force the thinktank to opt for another Indian pacer. Rajasthan Royals: Safe to say Royals have almost all bases covered and have a strong bowling attack. They might look to strengthen the squad by adding a couple of allrounders though and a backup Indian batter. Buttler's impact at the top of the order is hard to replicate. So getting a solid backup for the Englishman will be on their agenda as well. Sunrisers Hyderabad: Given the fact that they have a solid squad SRH can go big on a couple of top players pretty easily. An upgrade on Marco Farooqi is definitely possible. If not an overseas gun pacer SRH can definitely go big on overseas spinner to bolster that spin attack. Wanindu Hasaranga is up for grabs. Considering the first match of this men's T20I series at Kingsmead on Sunday was lost in its entirety because of the weather and Tuesday's game at St George's Park was curtailed after the skies leaked again that's no small thing. Cricket minded fans of the electrical thunderstorms that grace the Highveld during South Africa's summers and there are many would concede that the match must take precedence over even the epic show the weather puts on in Johannesburg. With both teams playing only four more T20Is before the World Cup in the format in the Caribbean and the United States in June they need all the gametime they can get. Many of the players involved will turn out for a host of T20 franchises before the World Cup but nothing polishes on-field and dressingroom dynamics like playing together. It's what turns collections of cricketers into teams who win tournaments. On the admittedly scant evidence of the Tuesday when South Africa won by five wickets with seven balls to spare. The home side are tightening those nuts and bolts better than the visitors. Neither side handed down a masterclass in a match that was messy from start to finish but one of them found ways to win while the other lost their way. Maybe India are still getting over last month's rude awakening at the ODI World Cup which around 1.4-billion people seemed convinced they had some divine right to win. Until they didn't and Australia did because sport doesn't work that way. The South Africans haven't had to face that challenge no-one expected them to come home with the World Cup. Indeed they performed better than anticipated to reach the semis. That's not to read too much into the last game of a rubber India can no longer win. Besides they have claimed only two of the 15 bilateral series they have played in South Africa across the formats. But one of those was a T20I series in February 2018. Gerald Coetzee South Africa's most successful bowler on Tuesday with a haul of 3/32 has been taken out of the mix (see below) and Shamsi whose Gqeberha economy rate of 4.50 was easily the best in both attacks might be less effective on a Wanderers pitch. So theoretically the Indians have a better chance of winning than on Tuesday. Also the Wanderers is the only regularly used international ground in South Africa where India haven't lost more matches than they've won. They're level at 5-5 in Joburg. But the South Africans know how to win at the Wanderers where they have been victorious in 65.98% of their matches regardless of format in which a positive result has been reached. Only in Centurion are they more successful on that score and just 0.29% more. For all its reputation as a fast bowler's venue the Wanderers is a good place to bat especially in white-ball cricket. So will Suryakumar Yadav celebrate retaining the top spot in the T20I batting rankings with an innings as bristling with aggression as his 36-ball 56 on Tuesday? Will Rinku Singh convert his unbeaten 68 off 39 in the same match into something bigger? Or will potential debutants Nandre Burger and Ottniel Baartman again see below deny them by announcing themselves in style? As always before a match questions hang in the air like rain clouds. That's better for cricket of course than real rain clouds hanging in the air. What to expect: A willing pitch a small fast outfield and little chance according to the forecast of rain. Shubman Gill might make way for Gaikwad who didn't play on Tuesday due to illness. Ravi Bishnoi looks set to crack the nod ahead of Kuldeep.
