After a celebrated youth career, Ronaldinho became a key member of the Brazilian team that won the 2002 World Cup. He has played for clubs in Brazil, France, Spain and Italy, and twice been named FIFA World Player of the Year. Ronaldinho quickly developed into one of Brazil's most talented youth soccer players. When he was 13 years old, he once scored a ridiculous 23 goals in a single game. While leading his team to a variety of junior championships, Ronaldinho immersed himself in Brazil's long and glorious soccer history, studying past greats such as Pelé, Rivelino and Ronaldo, and dreaming of following in their footsteps. Then, in 1997, a teenaged Ronaldinho won a call-up to Brazil's Under-17 national team. The squad won the FIFA Under-17 World Championship in Egypt, and Ronaldinho was selected as the tournament's best player. Soon afterward, Ronaldinho signed his first professional contract to play for Grêmio, one of the most celebrated teams in the Brazilian league. Professional Career Ronaldinho made his senior debut for Grêmio in the 1998 Copa Libertadores tournament. The next year, he was invited to join the senior Brazilian national team to compete in the Confederations Cup in Mexico. Brazil turned in a second-place finish, and Ronaldinho won the Golden Ball Award as the tournament's best player as well as the Golden Boot Award as its leading goal scorer. Firmly established as a star on the international stage, in 2001 Ronaldinho left Brazil for Europe, signing a contract to play for Paris Saint-Germain in France. A year later, he participated in his first World Cup on a loaded Brazilian squad that also featured Ronaldo and Rivaldo. Ronaldinho missed several practices and performed indifferently in games, and eventually had his contract terminated due to unpaid wages. Awards & Achievements He is the recipient of two La Liga Foreign Player of the Year - Don Balón Award (2003-04 and 2005–06). Man Utd news: How Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shocked United stars in Old Trafford dressing room. Solskjaer was appointed by Ed Woodward on a temporary basis in December after Jose Mourinho paid the price for United’s worst ever start to a Premier League season. And the Red Devils have since strung together an impressive run of six wins on the bounce in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and conceding just three. Manchester United’s fifth win in that sequence came a little under two weeks ago as they dumped Championship side Reading out of the FA Cup at the third-round stage. It seems Solskjaer saw that match as the perfect opportunity to show a different side of his personality as a warning in case things go sour at Old Trafford. According to the London Evening Standard, Solskjaer left United players shocked as he screamed at them in the dressing room despite leading 2-0. A Juan Mata penalty and Romelu Lukaku’s injury time strike had effectively put the match beyond Reading’s reach. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was not altogether happy with the performance and used the opportunity to remind his much-changed team he’s no soft touch. Solskjaer’s approach seems to have earned him more admirers amongst the United squad, some of whom already adored him due to his playing exploits in Manchester. And it has been claimed there is support for him to be handed the reins on a full-time basis once the season draws to a close. However Paul Ince, who left United the year before Solskjaer arrived, claims he could have had the same impact as the Norwegian. And he’s claimed United should carry on their pursuit of No 1 managerial target Mauricio Pochettino rather than appoint Solskjaer. "We can’t get too sucked in with what Ole’s done," Ince said. "Let’s be honest, it couldn’t get any worse at Manchester United before Jose Mourinho left. "There was a dark cloud over the entire club, the players, the fans and the staff. It was impacting performances on the pitch. "Ole’s come in, a friendly face at the club with a calming influence and it seems as though the players have upped their effort as a result. "The shackles are off, but that doesn’t mean that Ole is the right man for the job. I could have gone in and done the same thing, so could Steve Bruce. "Anyone could have gone in and done what he has done, it wasn’t a hard thing to do to give those players freedom and improve the mood. "So, for the next few years what the club need to do is bring in a manager that can seriously get United competing with City and Liverpool. And of the options available, Pochettino is the man to do that. "The club shouldn’t be making rash decisions, picking a manager just because he’s had six wins on the bounce, all of which came against below average sides bar one. You’d like to think that even under Mourinho they’d have won those games. "People say the acid test was against Tottenham, but United won that by default of Tottenham having an off-game in terms of scoring and De Gea being so fantastic. They didn’t outclass Spurs at all. "It’s easy to default to the Ole bandwagon, but the club need to be careful. I’d like to think that the Glazers and Ed Woodward will be looking at who is the right man for the next few years, rather than the right man right now. If they decide on Ole, then good luck to them."
