India are wonderfully placed at the start of day two. However there was a bit of wobble early in their innings after electing to bat first. They lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) Shubman Gill (0) and Rajat Patidar (5) in quick succession as they were reduced to 33/3 in the ninth over. Skipper Rohit was joined by Jadeja and both led the recovery work. The pair of Rohit and Jadeja held the innings nicely. The Indian skipper was dropped by Joe Root at first slip early in the innings and he pounced on the opportunity. He made sure that the English side pays a heavy price as he brought up his ton. Rohit and Jadeja put 204 between them before the former fell on 131. In walked debutant Sarfaraz and he played positively from the word go. Sarfaraz notched up a beautiful half-century in his debut innings and looked settled for a big score before being run out on 62. Jadeja brought up his century and remained unbeaten on 110 along with night-watchman Kuldeep Yadav (1*) as India finished day one on 326/5. Mark Wood has picked up three scalps for the English side. The second new ball is just three overs old and the visitors will look to make full use of it early on day two. Jadeja looked solid at the crease on day one and will be looking to go big and score a daddy hundred today. The English side meanwhile will be looking to pull back things by picking regular wickets on day two. his brings 3000 runs Jadeja in Test cricket. the pads on a fuller length Ravindra Jadeja waits flicks it through deep mid-wicket for a boundary. Vikram Rathour (India batting coach): "There were a few jitters with the scoreboard reading 33/3. I won't be lying. But that can happen on the first day on a fresh wicket. A couple of good balls. So yeah there were a few jitters but the way two pros batted it was really good to see. The dropped players do understand that the team management is really backing the players and giving them enough opportunities. But we have to go with what the team needs at certain times. In case of Axar that was the real case. But on this surface we thought we needed a wrist spinner who can turn the ball a little more. Bharat is a tough one actually. He is being doing well. He got a few opportunities but really couldn't convert those starts. I thought the team management decided to go with some change. We always knew that Sarfaraz can play spin well. But it was good to see him do that on this occasion and this stage." Pitch Report (Deep Dasgupta and Nick Knight): Deep Dasgupta: "As observed yesterday there is nothing for the bowlers apart from the first hour or so. Good pitch to bat on. What we have one day two I have got Nick Knight here with me. Nick what's your assessment for day two?" Nick Knight: "Well not different from what we saw yesterday. The only difference I see is that the cracks are a bit larger here. It's dried out. There is enough in the pitch to hold it together and it will be another good day for batting. Jadeja breaches the 100 finally! A sensational innings from the southpaw at his home ground. It's essentially a good pitch to bat on. But with cracks this big and they are opening up there will be an odd ball that will misbehave. A lot of the English bowlers bowled round the wicket yesterday so there is a rough there for maybe Ashwin to bowl into. But even if we talk a lot about it it's still a good pitch to bat on." You would think that India have their noses ahead right now but you never know on these type of surfaces. India are 95/3 at the end of 29 overs and still require 136 runs to win this Test and go 1-0 up in the series. India got off to a steady start to the chase. The English bowlers bowled tight lines and lengths with the new ball and didn’t allow the hosts to get away. Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma took their time to settle in. Both put 42 between them before Jaiswal flicked one straight to Pope at short leg to fall on 15. Tom Hartley removed Shubman Gill on a silver duck in the same over as the hosts suddenly found themselves in a spot of bother. KL Rahul joined his skipper at the crease. Rohit played some lovely strokes and put the pressure back on England. Another gripping session of Test cricket. Just when the partnership was starting to blossom Hartley struck for the third time by trapping the Indian skipper on 39 in front of the stumps. Axar Patel was promoted up the batting order to number five. The decision is paying off for the hosts as he has displayed good technique and held the innings nicely. He along with Rahul have kept the visitors at bay and taken India to tea at 95/3. They require 136 more to win this Test match. There is enough assistance to the spinners and England can still hope of defending this total. They will have to bowl consistent lines and lengths in the evening session to create chances. England on the other hand have been pretty solid with their tactics but they did let it slip in the last half an hour of the session. Tom Hartley seems to have let go of all the jitters from the first innings and bowled brilliantly as he picked all three wickets. Jack Leach also bowled a few overs and looked good but they still need to keep their focus and look to take wickets as the runs will keep on coming sooner or later. the Test match is nicely poised at the moment where both the teams have a chance to emerge victorious. India still needs 136 runs to win and England needs 7 wickets before that. Time is no factor in this match as there is one full day left tomorrow. The Final session of the day is coming up which is definitely going to keep all of us on the edge of our seats as this session can determine where the result is going to fall on this 1sy Test of this series between England and India. Joe Root did bowl well in patches but Ben Stokes would have liked a bit more from him. Axar who has been sent up the top order has done a fine job as well. Session Summary: 29 overs 95 runs and 3 wickets. Another riveting session of Test cricket has gone by and at the end of it India still need 136 runs to win with 7 wickets in hand. England looked to be in control of that session for a long time but India have managed to pull it back nicely with an unbeaten stand of 32 runs between KL Rahul and Axar Patel. For India it wasn't the best of starts as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill both fell in the same over in the first half an hour or so and then the skipper was also undone by Tom Hartley. Rahul though ha taken his form from the first innings and hasn't let that dropped catch of Ollie Pope bother him too much. Chasing 231 the Indian openers were quite watchful unlike the first innings. Rohit was dropped on 5 but he batted more positive than Jaiswal. Hartley who was taken to the cleaners in his opening spell in the first dig bowled beautifully. He bowled in the right spots exerted pressure and nipped out India's top three. Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza had an outing to remember last time when the two sides met at the same venue. Coming to bat at No. 4 Raza slammed 62 off 42 balls laced with five fours and two sixes to take his side to 143/5. Then he had a dream spell with the ball claiming 3/13 although it all went in vain. Coupled with Dasun Shanaka’s unbeaten 18-ball 26 Sri Lanka rode on Angelo Mathews’ 38-ball 46 to get the job done on the last ball of the contest. Wanindu Hasaranga as expected lived up to his lofty expectations whereas Maheesh Theekshana took two crucial wickets as well. India's spirits are soaring sky-high after a stellar performance in Mohali led by Shivam Dube's scintillating 60 off 40 in the run chase and a crucial wicket in the first inning. Youngster Jitesh Sharma too added fireworks with the bat and stabilized the middle order and Rinku Singh helped India chase 158 and with Virat Kohli back in the pack for the rest of the series the team looks rock-solid and much more assured. Afghanistan though posted a decent total last time thanks to the ‘President’ Mohammad Nabi’s fantastic knock down the order. However the tourists missed the magic of Rashid Khan due to a back injury and that huge void was indeed felt. The hosts clinched the victory and now India’s eyes are set on sealing the series in Indore. The anticipation is through the roof and we're in for another exciting showdown! Also the good news for all the staunch cricket enthusiasts is that the two greats of the sport. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be together seen donning the Blues in the shortest format for the first time since the T20 World Cup 2022 Semi-Final. It is now time for the 2nd T20I between India and Afghanistan at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. India are already 1-0 up in the three-game series and will look to seal the series right away. It was a very chilly evening in Mohali last time around and on a stellar batting track Afghanistan put on a decent total which was well below par. The dynamic duo of Ibrahim Zadran and Gurbaz up top did get runs under. Their belt but neither looked convincing enough. Rohit Sharma the skipper of India says there's no particular reason to bowl first and that it's just the nature of the ground. He says that it's a chasing ground with pretty small boundaries. He's happy with the previous game and says that the guys are executing the plans being spoken to them. Says that they have asked for specific roles for the guys and they are doing accordingly so far. not much they don't have any baggage and it is all about backing them allowing them to be free on the ground. He says that they will do things keeping the World Cup in mind but adds that they they know results are also important. Further adds that they want to try out a few things but the end result also matters a lot and winning is more important than anything. There's a huge roar in the crowd as he says Virat Kohli is in the XI with Yashasvi Jaiswal in place of Tilak Varma and Shubman Gill. Ibrahim Zadran the captain of Afghanistan says that they will try to bat well and put a good score on the board. Adds that they also wanted to bowl first due to the conditions and the ground being a small one. Tells that they made some mistakes in the last game and they have discussed about it and will look to execute their plans better. Says that Rahmat Shah is not playing and Noor Ahmad comes in for him. Ends by saying that playing an extra spinner is a tactical decision considering the ground conditions. PITCH REPORT: Deep Dasgupta and Nick Knight are pitch side. Nick Knight says that it's pretty much flat and traditionally a very high-scoring venue and obviously the smaller boundaries are one of the reasons. Adds that the surface is really flat and cracks are firm. Adds that there won't be any turn maybe a bit of a little movement initially with the new ball. He says that the team who wins would look to bat under the lights and with the dew coming batting first will have an additional advantage. India won the toss and elected to bowl first.
