The same applies to his ability to make life difficult for Everton and deliver a viable Premier League concern to whoever takes ownership of St James’ Park. Newcastle owner Mike Ashley looking at four bids in excess of £300m for club Read more Newcastle departed with a valuable and well-earned point as they responded impressively to Saturday’s home defeat by West Ham, their only loss in six league games. It could have been three but for Jordan Pickford’s fine late save from Christian Atsu and a poor finish from the same player when clean through on goal in the 90th minute. Not that Benítez was complaining. Everton had sought a release from the misery of Sunday’s freakish defeat in the Merseyside derby. Pickford’s intervention aside, it proved beyond them. Fatigue and a lack of finesse in attacking positions ensured the after-effects of Anfield lingered for Marco Silva’s team. “We had chances to win it at the end,” the Newcastle manager said, “but they had won four home games in a row so to get a point in this stadium with the way things are going for us was a credit to our players. The application was fantastic. They have top-class players, players with World Cup and Euros experience coming from the bench, so our players have done a great job.” Pickford received a rousing ovation from the crowd before kick-off – responding with an appreciative clenched-fist salute following his error at Liverpool – although the away section was predictably scathing in its reception for the born-and-bred Sunderland fan. The baiting intensified when the England No 1 was beaten from the first Newcastle attack of the game. Ademola Lookman, making his first league start of the season, was dispossessed in the Newcastle half. His appeals for a foul were ignored by the referee as Jacob Murphy raced down the left before delivering a precise cross low along the face of Pickford’s goal. Kurt Zouma and Yerry Mina were unable to intercept and Salomón Rondón steered a powerful finish into the roof of the net at the back post. “It was a foul, possibly two, but that is not an excuse because we had to defend that situation better,” said Silva. Everton, with André Gomes leading a composed display from central midfield, were not unduly disturbed by the setback. The left-wing partnership of Richarlison and Lucas Digne was potent and it engineered excellent chances for Gylfi Sigurdsson and the recalled Cenk Tosun before the interval. Sigurdsson was foiled by a superb block from Federico Fernández while Tosun volleyed straight at Martin Dubravka when picked out by another Digne cross. The home side had levelled at that stage and a 2-1 lead, seconds before the interval, could have change

Leicester 1-2 Everton: Gylfi Sigurdsson scores 25-yard screamer Published: 11:55 EDT, 6 October 2018 | Updated: 12:30 EDT, 6 October 2018 A showreel of Gylfi Sigurdsson goals would be quite the watch but his latest might be worth a film all of its own. There seemed little danger for Leicester when Sigurdsson shaped to collect a pass in midfield with his back to goal. But in an instant he had feinted away from James Maddison, who gave a rueful look to the skies at the deception, then let rip with a shot from 25 yards that bent into the top corner, the ball still seeming to accelerate as it hit the back of the net. The goal came with 13 minutes left and won a game for Everton that strengthened belief in Marco Silva’s approach. His team deserved victory, and the patterns of his attacking unit were clear throughout. Over the last 4 Gameweeks, Knockaert’s tally of 10 attempted assists is level with Hazard and just one fewer than David Silva has managed. His 3 FPL involvements in that time ranks joint 6th amongst midfielders; beaten by only Gudmundsson, Yarmolenko, Maddison, Sterling and Hazard; with the Chelsea man having been directly involved in 5 goals in that time. Brighton have started the season with a fairly tough schedule, taking on Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs and Man City, in their opening 7 matches. They now have a run of 9 Gameweeks where they won’t face a single side from last season’s top 6, so this looks like the ideal time to bring in Brighton assets. Raheem Sterling 1 goal and 1 assist for Raheem Sterling this weekend has given the England international an average of 7.8 points per game from the opening 7 Gameweeks; beaten by only Hazard amongst midfielders – with his 8.6 points per game. Sterling’s 3 shots inside the box in Gameweek 7 was beaten by only Sigurdsson amongst midfielders – with 4, while only Maddison and Sigurdsson produced more than his 4 attempted assists (prior to the Monday night fixture between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth). Over the last 4 Gameweeks, Sterling’s 5 FPL involvements is level with Hazard and no midfielder has managed more than the pair. 11 efforts from inside the box by Sterling, in that time, ranks 1st amongst midfielders, while his 7 shots on target is joint-best along with Hazard. 12 attempted assists by the 23-year-old (last 4 Gameweeks) is more than Hazard or David Silva have managed; only Willian and Maddison have produced more – with 13. Man City have a mixed bag of fixtures to come, with tricky away games against Liverpool and Spurs but much more appealing home fixtures, against Burnley and Southampton. Less than 5% of managers currently have Sterling in their team, so he’s somehow still a very strong differential and will perhaps provide the option of going without Sergio Aguero in the near future. Raúl Jiménez Wolves found their 3rd win of the season this weekend, beating Southampton by 2 goals to nil and extending their unbeaten run to 5 games. Raúl Jiménez provided an assist for the first goal; his 4 attacking return of the season so far. 4 shots inside the box by the Wolves striker in Gameweek 7 was on par with Harry Kane; only Sergio Aguero took more amongst forwards – with 7. Over the last 4 Gameweeks, 7 shots on target by Jiménez ranks 2nd best amongst forwards, behind only Kane – with 8. Only Aguero and Lacazette (5) have been directly involved in more goals than Jiménez (3) over the last 4 Gameweeks, amongst forwards. Wolves have some favourable fixtures still to come, taking on Crystal Palace, Watford and Brighton over the next 3 Gameweeks. #FPL #FantasyPremierLeague #PremierLeague

The 21-year-old produced a tally of 3 attempted assists in Gameweek 5, which was on par with the likes of Mo Salah and David Silva; only Neves and Bernardo Silva created more chances amongst midfielders – with 5. 4 goal attempts taken by Maddison was level with Salah and Hazard, while his 3 shots on target was joint top amongst all players in Gameweek 5; along with the likes of Sterling, Mané, Pogba and Hazard. Over the last 4 Gameweeks, the Leicester City midfielder has scored 2 goals from a total of 10 shots, 5 of which have hit the target and he’s provided 1 assist from a total of 7 attempted assists. Home fixtures against Huddersfield and Everton over the next 4 Gameweeks should present him with plenty of opportunities to add to his FPL points. Matt Doherty Wolves recorded their 2nd consecutive clean sheet this weekend, with a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley and Matt Doherty was key for the promoted side. The right-wing-back recorded the assist for the goal, producing an impressive tally of 3 attempted assists throughout the game; level with Marcos Alonso in Gameweek 5 and only Lucas Digne provided more amongst defenders – with 4. Doherty also took 3 goal attempts against Burnley, with 2 from inside the box; only Jonny, his teammate on the opposite flank, took more shots inside the box amongst defenders in Gameweek 5 – with 3. Over the last 4 Gameweeks, the 26-year-old has produced 6 attempted assists and 8 goal attempts, with 7 from inside the box and 4 on target. No defender has taken more shots inside the box during that period, with Marcos Alonso managing 5. With an away trip to Man Utd up next for Wolves, we can perhaps hold off from bringing Doherty in just yet, but a home fixture against Southampton in Gameweek 7 looks like a possible time to bring him in. Ryan Fraser Eden Hazard stole the show in Gameweek 5, with a hat-trick against Cardiff, but the Belgian was already firmly on the radar and will continue to be, so it’s Ryan Fraser who moves onto the Watchlist. The Scotland midfielder enjoyed a similar points haul to Hazard, providing an assist and 2 goals during Bournemouth’s 4-2 win over Leicester. The goals came from just 2 total shots, which suggests that such an explosive haul was perhaps fortunate but Fraser’s numbers over the last 4 Gameweeks still show plenty of promise, particularly in terms of assist potential. His 9 attempted assists is 5th best amongst midfielders, behind Hazard, Sigurdsson (10), Salah (14) and David Silva (16) but 4 ‘big chances created’ by Fraser during that period is top amongst all players. Bournemouth have scored 10 goals this season, which is level with Spurs and only Liverpool (11), Chelsea and Man City (14) have managed more. #FPL #FantasyPremierLeague #PremierLeague
Everton 1-3 West Ham: Andriy Yarmolenko gets off the mark with brace before Marko Arnautovic nets as Hammers finally claim first victory of season.
