Before the third ODI at McLean Park, Bangladesh had failed to win a single ODI in New Zealand in 18 matches. The Tigers finally ended the drought with a stunning victory, skittling New Zealand to 98 and getting over the line with nine wickets and 34.5 overs remaining. The visitors would aim to carry forward the confidence to T20Is, thanks to their performance in the final ODI of the series. In the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s regular skipper in the shortest format, Najmul Hossain Shanto will be the stand-in captain. It’s pertinent to note that Shakib sustained a finger injury during the ODI World Cup in India, and it’ll take “longer to heal”, according to chief selector Minhajul Abedin. Bangladesh have aplenty injury concerns; Mahmudullah and Taskin Ahmed both have shoulder injuries, while Ebadot Hossain is recovering from knee surgery he underwent in September. Bangladesh would know they need a complete team display against New Zealand, who won the ODI series and would be eager to continue their good form.
