Instead, the star pacer said, he is focusing on the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL), in which he is the brand ambassador of Karachi Kings. The fast bowler has also been practising at the National High Performance Center (NHPC) in preparation for his participation in the 2023 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League. Amir said that he sought permission to train the NHPC from the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Najam Sethi. “Najam Sethi was kind enough to allow me to train at the NHPC.” Amir had retired from international cricket in December 2020, citing “mental torture” and the “hostile environment” he faced at the hands of PCB management as the reason for his departure. Earlier this year after Ramiz Raja, the former PCB chairman, announced that he had made up his mind to resign, it was expected that the fast bowler would come out of retirement. However, despite the fact that the PCB chairmanship has changed, Amir has said that he still does not intend to withdraw from retirement and is focusing on the 8th edition of PSL. “If Allah wills, I will play for Pakistan again,” he added, leaving hopes for fans for his return. Amir also praised the performance of the Pakistani team in the first Karachi Test, which ended in a draw. “Imam-ul-Haq Sarfaraz Ahmed and Saud Shakeel batted well,” he said. It is pertinent to mention here, in a recent interview, Ramiz Raja revealed that the reason for not selecting Amir for the team was “selection”. He said, “Amir's inclusion in the team is on the basis of selection criteria.” He further said that it was not in his hands. “Should Shaheen be made the 12th player or should Haris Rauf or Wasim Junior be left out for Amir? These young lads focus only on cricket, instead of politics and Twitter” he lambasted.

When day three began, Babar, Agha and Shan didn’t come out on the field. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Ahmed was given the responsibility of leading the side. It must be noted that Agha had already confirmed his illness the other day during press conference after scoring his maiden Test hundred. Shan returned to the field after a while whereas Babar and Agha were replaced by Mohammad Rizwan and Kamran Ghulam, respectively. New Zealand opened day 2 at 165 for naught. Sports Floor | Pakistan vs New Zealand | Captain under pressure? | 20 December 2022 Pakistan skipper Babar Azam on Sunday said that the squad for the first Test against New Zealand will be finalised after holding discussions with newly-appointed interim chief selector Shahid Afridi today. Speaking during a press conference, Babar said that the final squad hasn't been finalised yet, adding that he will have a meeting with Afridi. "We will try to select the best possible XI," he said. The prolific right-hander also stated that the pitch in Karachi looks similar to that in Australia. “Pitch looks good. I think we can say that it is similar to the ones in Australia. As you know, here [in Karachi] the behaviour of the pitch changes every day,” he added. Babar also opened up about the inclusion of three additional players in the Pakistan squad on Saturday. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) interim selection committee had included pacers Mir Hamza and Shahnawaz Dahani and off-spinner Sajid Khan in the Pakistan Test squad for the two-match series against New Zealand. “Yes, we had a discussion on it [inclusion of three additional players]. Obviously, they have their own mindset. I gave them my opinion and, in the end, we did what was best for our side,” he said. The Pakistan skipper also admitted that Pakistan, who have lost four Test matches in a row on home soil, haven’t played good cricket in the recent past but he backed his players to make a strong comeback. “I accept that we didn’t play good cricket at times. There were things that we should have executed in a better manner but we couldn’t do that,” he said. "I feel no pressure because pressure brings your game down. I'm a confident captain and I have confidence in my players. We will try our best to make a comeback in the series since it is a new day and a new team,” he concluded.
