That Millwall Podcast - Stop playing five defenders at home #22 https://youtu.be/6KEfLzMbjLw MILLWALL boss Gary Rowett said his side deserved to beat Sheffield United for the “bravery” they showed at Bramall Lane after he had demanded a response to their 2-1 defeat against Luton Town. The Lions took the lead through Jed Wallace’s fifth goal of the season in the 11th minute before Billy Sharp levelled from the penalty spot in the 45th minute. Jake Cooper fired in a dramatic 92nd-minute winner, his second injury-time strike in successive games at the home of the Blades. Rowett was unsure if Wallace meant his goal, after the attacker’s cross-shot from the right arrowed over goalkeeper Robin Olsen and into the far top corner. Morgan Gibbs-White was sent off in the 54th minute after he went down in the area claiming contact with Scott Malone, but the United winger was given a second yellow card. Millwall are up to 10th in the Championship. “We asked the players for an honest performance, a really hard-working performance,” Rowett told millwallfc.co.uk. “If we did the right things tactically we would cause them problems. “A place like this is a difficult place to come, there’s always a fabulous atmosphere, they won their last home game, you know of they start brightly then all of a sudden it’s a very difficult game, they’ve got fabulous players, particularly in forward areas that caused us problems. “But I thought for the first half an hour we were absolutely brilliant. We counter-attacked, we transitioned, we got our wing-backs in dangerous positions. Our front three caused them problems, I thought we were really, really good. “And then I would say for about 10 minutes before half-time they just started to cause us a few problems. They’re going to do that with the movement that they’ve got. “They just dragged us out of areas, they made a change as well and that made a difference, almost playing with two 10s. Those two 10s got behind our midfielders and caused us one or two problems. “We made a mistake before half-time which was disappointing because I felt we deserved to go in 1-0 up. “Then half-time changes things a little bit just in terms of that psychology. “We scored a very good goal, I forgot to mention. You’d have to ask him if it was a cross or a shot, I’m sure he’d say it was a shot. But the fact is he’s quite close to the byline and puts it in a good area with pace. “Does he mis-hit it, is it a perfect shot? I don’t know, of course he will, that’s why I haven’t bothered to ask him! “But it’s good play, whether we get a little bit of good fortune I felt we deserved it with our performance. “1-1 means it’s a difficult game, it means the game swings in their favour. For 10 minutes the second half I have to say I was very close to changing formation, very close to changing because I felt as though I needed to. They were causing us problems. “The sending-off, I haven’t seen it so I don’t know. Scottie felt the lad kicked his leg and then went down, so I don’t know if there’s contact. I was worried for a second that the referee had given another penalty. “The sending-off changes it a little bit again because now we get into those transition forward areas a little easier. They still had chances and Bart had to make a couple of good saves, their keeper had to make a couple of good saves. “I felt we had to take one of our moments, we had quite a few second half when we needed to be a bit more clinical. “And then in the end Coops hits a wonderful, wonderful strike. It deserves to win any game of football. “I felt we deserved it based on the fact that it’s a tough place to come, we’d lost our last game. We deserved it for the bravery that we showed for the vast majority of the game. “I was tempted to go to 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 [after the sending-off] and put another forward in. But you look at Sheffield United’s good players and every time the ball broke to them they just kept getting into good positions and looking like they might get something. “I thought it was a game where freshness might win us it rather than a tactical change. We put Mason on as a left wing-back to see if he might change the dynamic of the game. “It was a really end-to-end game the last 15 or 20 minutes, I’m sure it was a really good game to watch for the neutral. For both managers I’m sure it wasn’t quite the game that you want. “Could we take one of our chances? We finally did. I didn’t think it was one of the chances we would take but Coops certainly makes the most of it and it’s a wonderful strike.” Credit News at Den https://newsatden.co.uk/82096-millwall-boss-on-bravery-if-jed-meant-goal-coops-strike-and-sheffield-united-red-card/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=millwall-boss-on-bravery-if-jed-meant-goal-coops-strike-and-sheffield-united-red-card

Millwall Vs Bristol City Match Vlog
Millwall Vs Bristol City Match Vlog

#Millwall Vs #BristolCity Match #Vlog Jed Wallace's second-half penalty-kick gave Millwall a 1-0 Sky Bet Championship success over Bristol City at The Den on Wednesday night. The substitute smacked home from 12 yards in the 64th minute to hand The Lions a victory and a sixth game unbeaten in the League. Gary Rowett made three changes from the side which drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, as Danny McNamara - on his return from injury - Benik Afobe and George Evans came into the starting XI at the expense of Ryan Leonard, Maikel Kieftenbeld and Connor Mahoney. Jed Wallace, meanwhile, returned to the squad to take his place on the bench. The Lions began the game on the front foot and fashioned the first half-chance through the run of Scott Malone to the edge of the box, but his cross was knocked behind by the Bristol City defence. Two corner-kicks followed, but Daniel Bentley was able to grasp the latter out of the air and stop any potential effort on goal. Malone's determination down the left-hand side then allowed him to cross for the leap of Matt Smith, but his header went wide. Millwall were getting a lot of joy down that left side in the early stages, especially through the combination of Malone and Murray Wallace, but numerous crosses failed to be converted into clear-cut chances on goal. An enticing cross from George Saville followed George Evans' long-range attempt being closed down, but the slightest flick took the ball away from danger. Matty James then struck The Robins' first effort of the game, on the break, after 14 minutes, but his attempt rolled wide of Bartosz Bialkowski's near post. There was a hairy moment for Millwall with 16 minutes on the clock as Murray Wallace completely misjudged the bounce of a pass and allowed Andreas Weimann a run on goal, but the duo of Bialkowski and Daniel Ballard spared his blushes, racing back to deflect the shot behind. George Tanner then nodded wide from Jay Dasilva's cross as Bristol City began to get themselves more into the game, but the next chance went the way of Millwall, however, Malone put Evans' cross wide. A golden opportunity was then presented to Afobe with 32 minutes played, but after he sprung the offside trap and connected with Evans' lofted header, Bentley rushed out to save well. There was a minor shout for a Millwall penalty as the first-half began to reach its conclusion, but referee Dean Whitestone was unmoved, with another chance coming in stoppage-time as Afobe connected brilliantly with a cross, but his header was clawed away by Bentley. Chris Martin broke away with the ball at his feet for the visitors early in the second-half but was well marshalled away from danger by the defence, before the big moment came with 63 minutes on the clock as Saville's through-ball saw Afobe latch onto it, only to be brought down by Rob Atkinson. Jed Wallace, a 59th-minute substitute for Smith, stepped up to slam his penalty-kick home, sending Bentley the wrong way, to open the scoring. The Lions' number seven, Malone and Saville were involved in a neat move as the game moved into its last 15 minutes, but the final ball lacked, with the former having to withdraw with five minutes to play after taking a knock - Jake Cooper his replacement. With just two minutes remaining, Jed Wallace won the ball back and began an attack which ended with the ball at the feet of Saville inside the box - after the space to shoot reduced for the midfielder, he was able to feed substitute Billy Mitchell, only for his attempt to be stopped well by Bentley. Just as the clock ticked into four minutes of stoppage-time the ball dropped for Weimann inside the 18-yard area, but a clutch of Millwall bodies were able to throw themselves in front of the ball to stop what would have been the equaliser otherwise. Referee Whitestone blew time minutes later to give The Lions a much-needed win. Millwall: Bialkowski, McNamara, M. Wallace, Hutchinson, Smith (J. Wallace 59'), Malone (Cooper 85'), Ojo (B. Millwall vs Leicester City Carabao Cup match Vlog
Millwall vs Leicester City Carabao Cup match Vlog

#Millwall vs #Leicester City Carabao Cup #matchVlog A GOAL at the start of the second half from Ademola Lookman and one at the end from Kelechi Iheanacho saw Millwall’s Carabao Cup campaign end in the third round. The Lions were the better side for long periods in both halves but lost out to former Charlton winger Lookman’s 50th-minute strike and Iheanacho’s late second. Match action Despite the likes of Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and Jamie Vardy not being in the XI, Brendan Rodgers still picked a strong Leicester side. But Millwall – with seven changes to their side – more than matched their Premier League opponents in the opening period and had the only clear-cut chance of the half, although Ryan Leonard failed to hit the target when the ball fell kindly for him following a Lions throw-in. It took the visitors 42 minutes to register an attempt, and even then, Youri Tielemans’ free-kick failed to trouble George Long after he had been upended just outside box. Up the other end, Ben Thompson came close to giving Millwall what would have been a deserved half-time advantage, only for his looping header to end up on top of the net. The home side had the better of the first 45 minutes and left the pitch to a generous applause from those inside The Den, who had more than played their part in making it feel like a proper cup tie. However, the top-flight side kicked into gear early in the second half and took the lead five minutes in. Leonard’s loose pass to Jake Cooper saw the centre-back dispossessed, and the Foxes took advantage when Iheanacho broke away and after his shot was saved by Long, Lookman was on hand to score the rebound. Despite a spirited second-half showing from the Lions, they lacked quality in the final third and the closest they came to levelling was when Connor Mahoney’s free-kick evaded everyone but somehow sailed wide when all it needed was a touch from someone in blue. Leicester made the game safe when Iheanacho was played through two minutes from time, and he blasted past Long after getting the better of substitute Dan Ballard. Mahoney gives Rowett food for thought? It’s been almost a year since Mahoney was named in the starting XI, but with Sheyi Ojo and Jed Wallace both out ill and Mason Bennett not involved, it was a rare chance for the wide man to impress. It certainly didn’t all go his own way, but Mahoney kept coming back for more. And while he still needs to add more quality and improve his decision-making in key areas, there was plenty to like about his performance. He should have gone home with an assist, but none of his team-mates gambled on his second-half free-kick, which somehow managed to miss everyone and curl agonisingly just past the far post. Millwall look better with Shaun Hutchinson back It might now be just one clean sheet in 11 games in all competitions for Gary Rowett’s men this season, but failing to keep one against Leicester is by no means a disgrace. The major positive for the Lions boss, though, was having Hutchinson back in the side for the first time since he suffered a thigh problem last month. Hutchinson got through just over an hour – as planned – and Millwall looked more assured and confident with him in the side. Even against superior opposition, the vice-captain’s return was a welcome run-out, and should give Rowett another option at Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Still no luck in the Carabao Cup Millwall have a love affair with the FA Cup, their last fairytale run after they defeated these opponents to reach the quarter-finals in 2017. However, they’re yet to crack the Carabao Cup and still haven’t reached the fourth round since the 2005-06 campaign, although it was once more used as any opportunity to give minutes to squad players and rest others. They gave it a good go against a side that are playing in Europe this season and are the holders of the FA Cup, but this was their fourth third-round defeat on the bounce, ending their impressive home run in this competition this season. Millwall: 5-2-2-1: Long; Leonard, Hutchinson (Ballard, 65), Pearce (Afobe, 72), Cooper, M Wallace; Mitchell, Evans; Mahoney, Thompson (Smith, 72); Bradshaw. Subs: Bialkowski, Malone, Saville, Bodvarsson. By Jake Sanders at The Den Taken from https://newsatden.co.uk/81760-report-millwall-0-2-leicester-city/

West Brom Vs Millwall Preview show.
West Brom Vs Millwall Preview show.

West Brom Vs Millwall Preview show. Richard Cawley joins us to preview today's game against West Brom. Gary Rowett reckons his #Millwall side are in a far better place after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at #WestBrom extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to three matches. Daniel Ballard’s header clinched a point at The Hawthorns. The unbeaten Baggies moved top of the Championship after Fulham lost at Blackpool. “I spoke before the Cambridge game and said we had a big week – we need to win both games to make us feel a little bit better about ourselves,” said Lions boss #Rowett. “We did that, it doesn’t matter how you do it. “To go away to West Brom, you know it is going to be a difficult game. They were second and have now gone top – they had won four on the spin and were blowing away most teams they had played. “We dealt with them really effectively. We nullified what they do and still looked a threat on the counter. We went away to one of the top teams in the division, created the three best chances in the game and didn’t manage to score any of them. It is a positive but there is also a little tinge of disappointment that you should be finishing those chances and winning the game. “But the last three results have certainly been better and what we want to do now is go and build on that and put a few back-to-back results together. “In a 46-game season you can afford a couple of wobbles but just not too many. We’re a bit more pleased with the last period.”

#Millwall vs #Blackpool match Vlog Millwall boss Gary Rowett was pleased to gain The Lions' first #SkyBetChampionship win of the season on Saturday afternoon - no matter how it came. Jed Wallace's superb free-kick and Jake Cooper's last-minute winner secured a 2-1 victory over 10-man Blackpool in SE16, after Shayne Lavery had given The Tangerines the lead and Callum Connolly was sent off early on. Speaking to millwallfc.co.uk, the manager summarised the game. "I thought we started quite well," he said. "We put good balls into good areas, one of them causes the sending off, which is clear, in my opinion. Sometimes, though, that makes the game harder. Especially against a side like Blackpool - Neil has got them really well organised and they have a lot of pace in the team. "They sat in and kept trying to counter, and they always looked as though that might've got something. We got into some good positions but didn't make enough of them, and we looked a bit edgy on the back of a couple of poor results. "But, they kept trying, they kept moving the ball and putting it into good areas. We just maybe did it a little bit too slowly. Jed comes us trumps again with a great free-kick, then he puts a fantastic ball in on the turn for Coops to head home the winner. "It's a nice way to win the game. Sometimes, because you don't play so well you feel for the opposition - I feel for Neil a bit because they've done really well, but for us, it was about getting that first win. It doesn't matter how it came - I'd like it to have came in a more complete performance, but we won the game."

Millwall Vs Cambridge United Carabao Cup Fan Match Vlog

Match Vlog from #Millwall Vs #Cambridge United in the #Carabao Cup 2nd round game at the Den. Millwall advanced to Round Three of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over Cambridge United at The Den. George Williams opened the scoring for The U's in SE16, but two goals in three minutes from Murray Wallace, followed by a poacher's finish from Matt Smith after the break, earned The Lions a safe passage into the next round. Gary Rowett opted to make numerous changes for the visit of The U's, including starts for the likes of George Long between the sticks, Ben Thompson, Tom Bradshaw and Alex Pearce. There was also a place on the bench for Alex Mitchell. After the game started as a midfield battle, the first chance came on seven minutes and went the way of Millwall, but Bradshaw's acrobatic kick struck the crossbar after Smith's knockdown from Billy Mitchell's cross. The midfielder, playing at right-wing-back, was involved again three minutes as, after Cambridge failed to clear a corner-kick to safety, the ball broke to The Lions' number 24, but his goal-bound shot was deflected wide. A further corner followed in which the ball flew around the six-yard box, but The U's managed to scramble the ball away. From there, the visitors managed to have a brief spell of attacking pressure, which The Lions rode with success, but on 33 minutes, Cambridge were able to take the lead after Williams ghosted in, completely unmarked, to head home the opener from a free-kick. Connor Mahoney's corner then had to be clawed away by Dimitar Mitov from under his own crossbar as Millwall attempted to get back into the game, with Bradshaw heading George Evans' cross over from the follow-up. Six minutes after The U's took the lead, The Lions managed to get back on level terms as Murray Wallace took the ball down on the left-hand side before cutting inside and striking a right-footed effort into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area. Incredibly, three minutes later, Millwall managed to nudge themselves in front and from the boot of Murray Wallace once again, as the left-back pounced on a loose ball to fire home from close-range after a clutch of bodies attempted to turn home a Mahoney corner. Connor Masterson caused Long momentary panic six minutes into the second-half as the two came together in the area following a Shilow Tracey cross, but the stopper managed to clear under pressure, before The Lions made it three on 54 minutes as Mahoney rode one challenge and twisted and turned inside the box before feeding Smith, who poked home from close-range. Williams almost struck a Cambridge - and personal - second goal of the evening two minutes later as the skipper wrestled the ball away from Bradshaw before forcing a smart stop from Long - and the dream almost happened just before the hour-mark, but Murray Wallace crashed a header against the crossbar as The Lions hit the woodwork for the second time. Jake Cooper nodded a Mahoney corner over the game entered its final quarter, with Long having to be on guard again with 69 minutes on the clock as a loose ball broke to Sam Smith inside the area - the stopper tipping the attempt wide. Just moments later, the goalkeeper once again had to pull off a strong save as Harvey Knibbs sprung the offside trap and advanced towards goal. There were 13 minutes to play when Long was in action once more, adjusting well to save a deflected shot from just outside the area. Rowett then brought Alex Mitchell on for his debut with 10 minutes to play, replacing Daniel Ballard, and with no further action to report on, The Lions safely booked their place in Wednesday night's Third Round draw. Cardiff City & Millwall Fans Brawl Over Woke Politics
Cardiff City & Millwall Fans Brawl Over Woke Politics

The fan bases of Cardiff City and Millwall go into a brawl before a soccer match yesterday in Europe. They weren't fighting over the soccer match itself. The altercation happened because of woke politics. Millwall manager Gary Rowett warned of this happening. We explain what happened between fans of Cardiff City and Millwall...and how this is another example of why politics have no place in sports. We also react to the spike in fights at sporting events recently. There have been fights at Major League Baseball games...the NBA Playoffs...and NFL preseason games. We explain how the infusion of politics could be leading to the tension and divisiveness at sporting events.
