The Carolina Panthers have clawed their way back into the win column Sunday with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Here are six takeaways from the game. The Panthers are better than advertised After a month of games, it’s clear this Carolina team is not nearly as bad as we were led to believe this offseason. Their defense has grown by leaps and bounds in just a few weeks and is exceeding our wildest expectations considering their experience level. Teddy Bridgewater can still run Bridgewater proved he can still be a rushing threat, totaling 32 yards and a touchdown on the ground. As a passer, Teddy went 26/37 for 276 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 INT and a 98.5 passer rating. Mike Davis is a gamer He may not be as athletic or talented as Christian McCaffrey, but Davis proved again he’s a competitor at heart. He posted 84 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and added another 27 yards on 5 catches. Davis isn’t especially fast, but he’s deceptive and elusive, especially for a ball-carrier with his build. DeAndre Hopkins was contained Rasul Douglas and the other Carolina cornerbacks did an excellent job of containing Hopkins. He caught 7 passes but only posted 41 total yards. Matt Rhule deserves more credit Considering the total lack of a traditional offseason program, no preseason games and so much personnel turnover, to be 2-2 at this point in the season is a tremendous credit to coach Matt Rhule and his staff. The playcalling and decision-making were sharp all around and clearly this team is well-motivated. Congratulations are in order. Brian Burns was a monster Burns was the lone producer for the defensive line the first couple games of the season. The others have joined in, now and Burns continues to wreak havoc every week. He had three QB hits and a ton of pressures on Kyler Murray. The Carolina Panthers get this first win after losing 10 straight against the Los Angeles Chargers on the road 21-16. The Panthers defense came out on a mission totaling 4 turnovers, 2 sacks, 8 QB hits, 7 pass deflections, and 6 tackles for loss. This has been by far this best showing. The offense did its job by playing turnover free football and putting enough points on the board to win the game. Mike Davis had a really nice showing playing for the injured Christian McCaffrey with 91 yds from scrimmage and a td. This team played some inspiring football and we hope to see more in the future.
