The umpires draw the bails as stumps have been called on day 1 of the series opener at Nagpur. Team India have one hand on the contest as they first dismissed the Australians for a paltry 177 taking a little over 2 sessions and now have scored 77 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket trailing by 100 runs. KL Rahul was the only casualty as he was dismissed in the dying moments of the day by debutant Todd Murphy. Mohammed Siraj and Shami with the early strikes followed by a five-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja and 3 wickets from R Ashwin who became the second Indian to claim 450 Test wickets were helpful in bundling the visitors after India lost the toss early in the day. The Australian openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja scored just 1 run each and departed in the space of 6 balls. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith the number 1 and 2 batters in the ICC Test rankings then put up a solid partnership of 82 runs for the third wicket only to be broken by Ravindra Jadeja who was well assisted by KS Bharat on debut. There were a couple of missed chances when Kohli failed to stick to a chance off Steve Smith's bat but it didn't cost the team too much as the former skipper soon departed for 37. Labuschagne was the top scorer with 49 runs. Alex Carey looked in good touch hitting 36 off just 33 balls adding 53 runs with Peter Handscomb who tried to hold the fort scoring 31 in 84 deliveries becoming the 9th Australian wicket to fall. There were 15 extras as not more than 4 visiting batters managed to score into double figures. Jadeja struck straightaway in his comeback Test. Rohit Sharma started with three boundaries in the first over bowled by his opposite number Pat Cummins and provided a good start to the team doing the bulk of the scoring getting to his 15th half-century in Test cricket. He is joined by Ravichandran Ashwin batting and is yet to get off the mark. Debutant Todd Murphy got Australia the only breakthrough taking a good return catch after the openers added 76 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (22-8-47-5): "The way I was bowling I was enjoying. Playing Test cricket after five months you know it is hard. I played First Class game after some time. I bowled 45 overs there and it helped me to come here and bowl. I looked to bowl into the stumps. I was looking to target the stumps. One ball was spinning and the odd ball was going straight. Yeah always I give credit to the ball but the interesting thing is whatever you take to be happy with that. I was in the NCA bowling 10-12 hours every day. Especially I was working on my rhythm. I think if you play after five months you need to be positive. I was not thinking about my injury but was trying to perform. This is where Bangladesh lost the plot as they ended up conceding a massive 254-run lead to India. On Thursday hosts Bangladesh will take on India in the final Test of the two-match series in Dhaka. This is a must-win game for Bangladesh as a loss will hand them a series defeat. India suffered a massive blow with Rohit Sharma being ruled out of the Test due to thumb injury. However the likes of Shubman Gill Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli are pretty much capable of guiding the visitors with their stoic batsmanship. Their bowling was clinical in the first Test as the spinners especially Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel wreaked havoc in the Tigers' camp dismissing them twice in the game. Ravichandran Ashwin's failure with the ball was surprising so he would like to get some wickets under his belt in this game. On the other hand although Bangladesh batters put up some fight in the second innings it was their horrendous outing in the first innings that handed them the crushing defeat. Also they were less penetrative with the ball as compared to their opponents. The pacers Ebadot and Khaled must chip in with some breakthroughs something which they failed to execute in Chattogram. Additionally veteran batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das should convert their starts into big ones as scoring in mere 30s and 40s doesn't at all help in the longest format. Starting the day at 278/6 India lost Shreyas Iyer for 86 off 192 balls. He could add only 4 runs to his overnight score and fell to Ebadot Hossain with the score reading 293/7. But then Ravichandran Ashwin stood up for India with the bat and he was ably supported by Kuldeep Yadav. The duo put on 92 runs for the 8th wicket with Ashwin registering his 13th Test fifty as he scored 58 off 113 balls. Kuldeep Yadav scored his highest Test score as he made 40 off 114 balls. Umesh Yadav's 15* off 10 balls and Mohammad Siraj's 4 off 3 alongside 8 extras given by the Bangladesh bowlers propelled India to a healthy score of 404 runs in 133.5 overs. Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were the picks of the bowlers for Bangladesh. They both picked up 4 wickets apiece. Taijul delivered 46 overs while Mehidy delivered 31.5 overs. A wicket apiece for the two fast bowlers Ebadot Hossain and Khaled Ahmed. Shakib bowled less number of overs as he is carrying a rib injury. Bangladesh got off to the worst possible start as they lost Nazmul Hossain Shanto off the first ball of the innings to Mohammad Siraj for a golden duck. Yasir Ali scored contributed 4 runs as well. The debutant Zakir Hasan looked assured out there for a while as he contributed 20 off 45 balls. Litton Das scored a good-looking 24 off 30 balls. Mushfiqur Rahim is the current top scorer with 28 off 58 balls. Nurul Hasan chipped in with a quick 16 off 22 balls. Stumps day 2 and India is in the driver's seat. 6 wickets fell in this last session and when India expected to bundle the opposition out today only Ebadot Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz put up a partnership of 31 runs and put the gates down. Earlier at the beginning of the day India resumed their innings as Ravichandran Ashwin joined the overnight batter Shreyas Iyer (he was batting at 82).
