It wasn't too long ago that Rajasthan Royals were riding high at the top of the table looking like the team to beat. But with just one win in the last five matches their campaign is in danger of going off the rails. Their latest defeat at the hands of table-toppers. Gujarat Titans was a real low point and they will be desperate to bounce back quickly. Speaking of low points Sunrisers have had plenty of them this season and are in a situation where every game is a must-win contest if they are to dream of making the playoffs. So it's two teams who need a win very badly today. Samson finishes it off in style as Rajasthan Royals post a mammoth total on the board. RR have put 214/2 at the end of their allotted 20 overs and it was the top three batters who did the bulk of the job for the home side. Earlier in the evening Rajasthan Royals won the toss and decided to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal again gave the team a flying start and his partner in crime Jos Buttler was very watchful during the partnership of 54 runs. Jaiswal (35 off 18) was out in the 5th over as Marco Jansen used his height effectively. Then Sanju Samson joined hands with Buttler and scored briskly. Both added 138 runs for the second wicket and kept SRH bowlers at bay. After a string of low scores the English wicket-keeper batter announced himself back and hammered 10 fours and 4 sixes in his knock of 95 from 59 balls. He was trapped infront by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the penultimate over and made sure that Jos the Boss didn't get to the three figures. Samson was unbeaten at 66 off 38 balls which included 4 fours and 5 sixes helping the side go well past the magical 200-run mark. Shimron Hetmyer was not out at the other end scoring 7 off 5 balls. Sunrisers' bowlers didn't have a great day at the office and were on the receiving end of the big partnership between Samson and Buttler. There is some turn on offer and it is not that easy for a new batter. The chase will be a trickier one for the visiting Hyderabad side. And the last two games are more evidence that Dhoni and Co. are back to their best; winning by 7 wickets (SRH) and 47 runs (KKR). So what has clicked? The batting. Gaikwad Conway Rahane and Dube have been among the runs. In fact the resurgence of Rahane has boosted their middle over play as he's striking at close to 200. Tushar Deshpande is another player who has excelled under Dhoni and is the highest wicket-taker in the team while Jadeja has been a bank with the ball. The team is coming together and they're starting to peak at the halfway mark. Other teams better watch out! That’s the end of the innings. A brilliant batting display from the Rajasthan Royals comes to an end as they post a mammoth 202 on the board the highest total on this ground in IPL. The foundation was laid by Yashasvi Jaiswal at the start and cameos from Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel at the back end of the innings have helped them finish with a flourish. The Chennai Super Kings have an uphill task ahead of them. Batting first the Royals got off to a sensational start thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal. The youngster from Mumbai came out all guns blazing and hit some glorious shots up front. He struck at a brisk rate and his opening partner Jos Buttler played the role of a second fiddle. The Royals scored 64 at the end of the powerplay. There was no stopping Jaiswal as he continued playing his strokes after the fielding restrictions. He brought up his fifty off just 26 balls. Ravindra Jadeja broke the 86-run opening stand when he dismissed Buttler on 27. Skipper Sanju Samson departed on a run-a-ball 17 in the 14th over. Tushar Deshpande dismissed Jaiswal on a 43-ball 77 in the same over which helped CSK to get back in the contest. The Super Kings bowled well and the Royals lost Shimron Hetmyer (8) in the 17th over who was promoted up the order. Devdutt Padikkal joined Dhruv Jurel and both played some excellent shots. Both Padikkal (27* off 13 balls) and Jurel (34 off 15 balls) hit some lusty blows at the end to power their side to 202 at the end of their 20 overs. The Super Kings picked up five wickets in total with Deshpande finishing with two. They went on a journey throughout their innings. An odd ball is turning and gripping but the surface looks good for batting. The Super Kings will have to create history tonight as they will be chasing the highest total at this venue. They have now won three games on the trot and the last two in particular were in convincing fashion. However, their most recent defeat came at home against their opponents for Thursday (April 27). Rajasthan Royals arrived in Chepauk and pulled off a job. They will now come into this contest on the back of two defeats but that win in Chennai will hold them in good stead. Jos Buttler, who hasn't fired in the last few games, delivered in that contest in Chepauk a couple of weeks ago and Royals were also aided by contributions from R Ashwin, Devdutt Padikkal and Shimron Hetmyer. Buttler's form has directly coincided with RR's fortunes without a doubt. The English swashbuckler hammered over 200 runs in the first four games but has managed just 40 in the last three, including two ducks. Apart from Buttler, the Royals also need a significant contribution from their skipper. Sanju Samson started off with a bang, scoring 97 runs in the first two games. But he has made only 84 in the next five. What could add to Samson's challenge is the surface in Jaipur. Batting wasn't exactly easier in the only game played here so far. That could play into their hands given how CSK have been putting up big scores. What the Royals wouldn't want on Thursday is another loss. They won four out of their opening five games but have stuttered a bit in the last two games. A third loss on the trot would put them under a bit of pressure. CSK on the other hand have seen their fortunes turn after that loss to Royals in their own den. Injuries have hampered them big time but this side still keeps winning games. Trent Boult got an early wicket but was pretty expensive. The spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up just a single wicket in between them and went for a bit of runs as well. Adam Zampa though bowled really well and picked up a wicket. The pick of the bowlers once again was Sandeep Sharma who was riding high on confidence from the last game and bowled valiantly at the death picking up a couple of wickets as well. Rajasthan will feel that their batters will be able to chase this one down. Gujarat were pegged back early as Wriddhiman Saha fell in the very first over. Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill looked to be forming a gritty stand but the former was run out and Gujarat looked in trouble. The skipper then walked in and played flamboyantly and Gill too found his groove. Pandya fell looking to keep up the ante and Gill too couldn't stay on for much longer. It was then some big hitting from Abhinav Manohar and David Miller in the death overs that really fired Gujarat to a total that they will feel is a good one. A flurry of big hits toward the end from the likes of David Miller and Abhinav Manohar has seen Gujarat post a solid total of 177 runs. It was a topsy-turvy first inning but going into the break Rajasthan will be the slightly happier of the two sides. That will ease the nerves a bit. Fullish length on the pads Devdutt Padikkal stays back and clips it aerially over the mid-wicket region to pick up a boundary the first of the run chase. Since joining GT in the IPL Hardik Pandya has had a strike rate of 190+ thrice in an innings in the first balls and two of those have come against RR- 21* off 10 (210) vs RR (2022) 19* off 10 (190) vs LSG (2022) & 19* off 10 (190) vs RR (today). Excellent delivery from Hardik Pandya and it is backed up really well by Shubman Gill in the field. Just short of a good length and very close to the off stump with the natural angle taking it away. Yashasvi Jaiswal gets cramped for room and ends up poking at it off the back foot. The ball takes the outside edge and goes to the left now first slip where Shubman Gill takes a sharp stop. Pandya is absolutely delighted. Ends with a boundary! Served on a Shortish length outside off and shaping away Sanju Samson stands tall and caresses it just behind the man at point for a lovely boundary. The dot-ball pressure does the trick and Jos Buttler departs playing an unnecessary shot here. Mohammad Shami keeps it on a good length and bowls it around off stump. Buttler shuffles right across the off stump and attempts the scoop. The ball angles in off the deck and beats the bat before knocking the off stump right off the ground. Buttler departs for a duck and Rajasthan are in early trouble here. Picked up and dispatched! The Test match is interestingly poised with neither team ahead in the game. A competitive day comes to an end. Winning the toss and opting to bat first Australia got off to a solid start courtesy of Usman Khawaja who held the innings together. He shared a 50-run stand alongside David Warner who struggled through his innings. He scored 15 off 44 balls. Marnus missed out today as he scored 18. Smith went for a duck. Travis Head on his comeback scored 12. But it was Peter Handscomb who held the latter part of the innings together with his unbeaten 72* off 142 balls. He was ably supported by skipper Pat Cummins who scored a fighting 33 off 59 balls. Nathan Lyon scored 10 as 16 extras were given by the fielding side. Australia were eventually bowled out for 263 in 78.4 overs. From India's bowler's point of view three bowlers took all the 10 wickets. Mohammad Shami was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/60 in 14.4 overs. He was ably supported by the spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Ashwin had figures of 3/57 in while Jadeja had figures of 3/68. Mohammad Siraj bowled well without luck while Axar Patel went wicketless again. India had to come and negotiate the 9 overs that were left for the day. They just about did it with Rohit Sharma overturning a caught at short leg appeal successfully off Nathan Lyon. Rohit is batting on 13* while the out of form KL Rahul is batting on 4*. 4 extras have been given by the fielding side so far.
