With rolling roads for the first 150km, stage 4 looks like a good opportunity for the breakaway artists. Their success, however, depends on whether or not the GC contenders want to fight it out on the final climb (7.4km at 6.5%) for the stage win and bonus seconds. The Tour of Flanders, or De Ronde van Vlaanderen, marks the grand finale of Flemish spring classics. The second Monument of the season is 273.3 km long, starting in Bruges and ending in Oudenaarde, and takes on the area's most iconic cobbled climbs including the Koppenberg, Oude Kwaremont (3 times!) and the Paterberg. Stage 5 features just as much climbing as the previous stage, but this is a day for the GC riders and the last opportunity for the pure climbers to really punish their rivals. Like stage 2, it's all about the final climb - Lo Port - 8.5km long at a brutal 8.7%. It’s half the length of Vallter 2000, but it’s steeper and better suited to the explosive climbers. Stage 4 is the longest of the race at 218.7km. This is the first real test for the GC riders, with four ascents of the short but punchy climb to Tortoreto (3km at 7%) in the last 55km. Expect a cagey race up until the final climb before the climbers, puncheurs and GC riders all come to the fore to battle it out for the stage win and perhaps the race leader's jersey too!
