The Carolina Hurricanes were always among the favorites to come out of the conference and make the Stanley Cup Finals, so it is no surprise that they cruised to a Metropolitan Division top seed and home ice advantage for round 2. As for the Philadelphia Flyers, they were a big shock! The teams in the Metropolitan that we thought would claim the second and third seeds like the Devils and Islanders fell apart this season, allowing the Flyers to have a good run and take the third seed. In the first round of the playoffs, the Hurricanes breezed by the Ottawa Senators in a 4 game sweep and really never was given too much trouble, however, they haven’t played as much recently, will this lead to rust in game 1 tonight for round 2? As for the Flyers, they are coming off of a thriller of a series. In round 1, the Flyers drew the Pittsburgh Penguins as opponents and had them pinned 3-0 in the series. At this point, the Penguins started to come back and forced to a game 6, which led to an OT 1-0 win over the Penguins in that game 6 to face the Hurricanes, so they are ready and pumped up! As we enter this round 2, can the Hurricanes keep up the momentum and make it to the Eastern Conference Finals again where they might make a run to the Stanley Cup Finals? Or will the Flyers end up continuing their cinderella run and be able to sneak a run to the Eastern Conference Finals by defeating the Hurricanes? At the beginning of the season, the Penguins were set to be among the worst teams in the NHL, being all but eliminated by January, but here they are. And again in the playoffs, the Penguins were dead to rights after game 3, being down 3-0, but they have won 2 straight and have momentum entering this game, trying to flip the script on their elimination to advance to Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As for the Philadelphia Flyers, they managed to quietly sneak their way into the playoffs by the Blue Jackets and Islanders COLLAPSING down the stretch, and Vladar playing INCREDIBLE! This round 1 Stanley Cup Playoffs series, however, has run through Dan Vladar. When Vladar has struggled this series, the Flyers have not been able to win the game on their own! Can Vladar get back on track tonight and finally close out the series for the Flyers at home? Or will the Penguins force a game 7 in Pittsburgh on Saturday Night? The Penguins HAVE been looking better since a goalie change from Stuart Skinner to Arturs Silovs, so they do have a lot of momentum and might be able to flip the series in this MASSIVE game 6!!!
