The NCCU Eagles gave the heavily favored Spiders all they wanted in the season's opener for both teams before Richmond prevailed in the 2nd half. Central led by as many as 14 points in the 1st half before UR cut the lead to 36-31 at the half. Richmond came out more aggressive in the 2nd half and blitzed the Eagles with a 16-4 run to lead 47-40 at the 14:00 mark. The Spiders never trailed again in closing out the hard fought victory. Grant Golden led the Spiders with 19 points. Jacob Gilyard had an outstanding all around game with 14 points, 6 REB, 6 AST, 7 Steals and 0 TOs. Burton, Cayo and Sherod pitched in with 14, 8 and 8 points respectively.
