#QatarInEurope #EuropeanQualifiers #Qatar #Luxembourg Qatar opened their European campaign with a 1-0 win over Luxembourg at the Nagyerdei Stadium in Debrecen tonight. Mohammed Muntari scored the lone goal in the 12th minute. As the FIFA World Cup 2022 host nation, Qatar has already qualified for the tournament but is taking part in the qualifiers to get match practice in the lead up to the next year’s competition. After the Luxembourg match, the Asian champions will play Azerbaijan (27 March) and Republic of Ireland (30 March) respectively. Qatar will play their ‘home’ fixtures on European soil to facilitate shorter travel times for their group opponents. UEFA Euro 2016 winners Portugal, Serbia are the other teams in the group. The European Football Association (UEFA) invited QFA to participate in the first European qualifiers for the 2022 event, in a move that reflects Doha’s position on the international sporting scene.

Al Duhail head coach, Sabri Lamouchi, said he was proud of his players' "attitude" in their 3-1 victory over Ulsan in the FIFA Club World Cup (CWC) match for fifth place on Sunday. Edmilson Junior started the scoring from long-range for Al Duhail in the 21st minute. Bit-Garam Yoon pulled one back for Ulsan to make it level in the 63rd minute, but goals from Mohammed Muntari and Ali Almoez helped Sabri Lamouchi's side end their CWC campaign on a high. Al Rayyan, Qatar. 7th February 2021. #FIFA #ClubWC #FIFAClubWorldCup 0:00 SOUNDBITE (English): Sabri Lamouchi, Al Duhail head coach: "We controlled the game. We created a lot of chances, especially in the first half. I think in the first half we deserved to score maybe one or two goals more. But the players deserve this victory. Happy for the fans, happy for the country and happy for the club. And of course proud of the attitude from the players." 0:27 SOUNDBITE (English): Sabri Lamouchi, Al Duhail head coach: "Nobody can imagine before starting the competition Al Duhail able to make these two performances. These two kind of performances against the winner of the Champions League in Africa and the winner of the Champions League in Asia. So, very positive. Very happy for the players. And first happy for the reaction because, the last game we finished with a lot of regret. As I told you. We didn't deserve to lose. But we lost. And the reaction from minute one was really positive."
