It's a must-win game for Australia as a loss here will lead them to a series defeat. Meanwhile India will aim at securing another win and claiming the series. India had a clinical outing in the first ODI in Mumbai crushing the visitors by five wickets. Riding on a sensational bowling performance especially from Mohammed Shami the hosts restricted their counterparts to a paltry 188 and later chased the total courtesy of a match-winning 108-run stand between KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. But the struggle of their top-order against the moving ball was evident as Shubman Gill Ishan Kishan Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav departed for low scores. However the Men in Blue will back themselves to turn things around in the second game as their batting lineup will get a massive boost with regular skipper Rohit Sharma rejoining the squad. On the contrary Australia had a forgettable game in Mumbai and will be desperate to restore parity by winning this match. Although most of their batters got out cheaply Mitchell Marsh passed the Indian challenge with flying colours amassing an aggressive 65-ball 81 including ten fours and five humongous sixes. So moving on to this fixture the Australian think tank would like better returns from their key batters- Travis Head Steve Smith Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Meanwhile their bowling unit led by Mitchell Starc received accolades as they made a match out of such a sub-par total. However despite reducing India to 39 for four the visitors allowed Rahul and Jadeja to consolidate something they should rectify in this do-or-die game. So can Australia stay alive in the series? Team news India: With only a day between the games India had no scheduled practice session on the eve of the game. Rohit Sharma is expected to lead the side after missing the first ODI due to personal commitments. India could rest Mohammed Shami who had a long bowl in the fourth Test and bowled full tilt in the first ODI. Team news Australia: Alex Carey missed the first ODI due to illness but is expected to be back for this one. David Warner who was sidelined with concussion and hairline fracture of the elbow is also likely to return and which middle order batter he could squeeze out is anybody's guess. There's certainly pressure on Marnus Lanuschagne to deliver; the batter has averaged a shade over 33 in his 21 innings at No.4 a batting position Australia are keen to get right. What to expect: Scattered thunderstorms are forecast in the afternoon so a rain-curtailed game cannot be ruled out. The pitches here have tended to be very good for shot making and India amassed 387/5 against the West Indies here in 2019. Five out the eight men's ODIs here have ended in favour of the chasing side with one match tied. Pitch Conditions: Historically it is known for producing belters where batsmen can play through the line on even-paced wickets. However in recent times spinners have made their mark. It can be exemplified by some low-scoring games in the 2013-14 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. Despite complaints about the changed ball Ravichandran Ashwin stood atop his mark at the CK Nayudu end from where he'd bowled unchanged through the morning even as Axar Patel limbered up hopefully. At the other end Marnus Labuschagne re-marked his guard. With only two runs left to get the No.1 Test batter skipped out to finish the game with an emphatic statement-making stroke off the No.1 bowler. He was beaten by the dip and reprieved with the ball hitting his back leg. Two balls later Labuschagne's attempts at an encore had something more of the desired effect and his celebratory roar was in keeping with the magnitude of what he and his team had achieved. It was 2-1 now with a game to go. Entering Ahmedabad there is a similar sense of the scoreboard not reflecting how the two sets of players see themselves. Australia their confident strut restored are a team in the ascendant. India aren't downbeat but they are increasingly looking towards their batters many of whom have had the onerous task of finding the right balance between attack and defence on surfaces that don't make the task easy. But there might be respite coming their way. For the visitors Indore was a big win but it was also a rare one. While it may be 1-2 right now it is also 2-12. That's the ledger in India for Australia since 2004. More broadly Australian sides have struggled to win consecutive Tests away from home. This though is a different team and back-to-back wins in Lahore and Galle are a testament to that claim. The next step is to do it in the same series for the first time since New Zealand 2016. And there are ingredients falling into place. Their batting save for a couple of hiccups is clicking into gear slowly and their spin attack has seldom looked as consistently threatening as it did at the Holkar Stadium. India Team News: Rahul Dravid hinted that India will be happy to stick to their 3-2 combination of bowlers. If at all the hosts might consider bringing back Mohammed Shami and rest Mohammed Siraj. Ishan Kishan was picked in this squad as a keeper-bat in the mould of Rishabh Pant and has had significant time batting in the nets. But Rohit and Dravid have insisted that they are happy with how Bharat has gone about his two roles in the series and are willing to give him the space to succeed. Australia Team News: After the troubles in the early part of the tour the visitors have a clean bill of health to report and thus have no reason to change their winning combination from Indore. There might be more of a bowling load for the seamers in the first innings of the Test and thus Cameron Green is likely to bowl more than the two overs he did in Indore. What to expect: The best batting conditions of the series at least to start off. Smith however predicted that spin would come into play but will do so belatedly. That should automatically increase the likelihood of this Test extending beyond three days. A return to more normal subcontinental conditions will see the toss assume greater significance than it has been in this series so far where teams losing the toss have gone on to win each time. Meanwhile the players will be treated to sweltering summer conditions in Ahmedabad with mid-afternoon temperatures forecast to hit 37 degrees Celsius during the Test match. Australia resumed the third session at 71/1 with Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne negating the spinners well. The duo continued to pile on the runs and added 96 runs for the second wicket. Ravindra Jadeja redeemed himself by dismissing the Labuschagne with Australia trailing by just 1 run. Khawaja was brilliant with his gritty half-century. He was out playing the sweep against Jadeja. The quality left-arm spinner continued his good performance and blew the stand-in Aussie Test skipper (Smith) with a beauty. Australia were 156/4 after 54 overs at stumps with Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green keeping their wickets intact and have a handy lead of 47 runs. For India except Jadeja no one came close to picking a wicket and he finished the day with a four-wicket haul. Earlier in the Aussie first innings the openers Travis Head and Usman Khawaja attacked right from ball one. But Head was trapped plumb infront by Ravindra Jadeja just in the second over. Then Marnus Labuschagne and Khawaja played spin unbelievably well to take the team through to tea break without any further damage. However Labuschagne chopped one on to the stumps when he was at zero but Jadeja became the culprit for overstepping. India even burnt a couple of reviews in the urge of getting a breakthrough. A few overs later Ashwin trapped Labuschagne infront but Rohit Sharma wasn’t in favour of going upstairs. Even Rohit’s captaincy was way below par as he didn’t keep attacking field. Opting to bat first earlier in the day India were in deep waters from the get-go. However a couple of lucky reprieves for the Indian skipper in the first over didn't prove costly for the visitors. The Indian openers added 27 runs for the first wicket but once Rohit Sharma was out in an attempt to play a reckless shot in this rank turner the collapse began. India lost wickets in clusters and were at 84/7 at Lunch. Virat Kohli and Srikar Bharat did add a few handy runs but couldn't negate the spinners for a much longer period. Umesh Yadav smashed a couple of lusty blows on his comeback to steer the team over the score of 100 runs. Mohammed Siraj was the final man to bite the dust as a miscommunication between him and Axar Patel ended the Indian innings. For Australia Matthew Kuhnemann was the pick of the Aussie bowlers with the figures of 9-2-16-5 while Nathan Lyon picked three wickets. Usman Khawaja: "I played to my plans. Scored runs whenever there was a scoring opportunity. I was batting with Marnus good partnership to get. It was tough to bat with the new ball. Not an easy wicket to get runs. It was spinning out there. We will get to know better about the pitch tomorrow. It is hard to tell on Day 1. It was difficult time to bat throughout the time and we're not expecting to get any better. If that's how I can put it. I sweep on the length. If the line of an off-spinner goes down the leg then I sweep on the line. I used the sweep more intermittently. It is good to have the sweep in your arsenal. You keep guessing I tried to make the bowlers keep guessing as well. A bit of cat and mouse. It is dictated by the wicket. How the bowlers are bowling to you. The plan is always to score runs as long as you're there. I try to do that." Session Breakdown on day 1: Session 1: 84 runs 7 wickets 26 overs. Session 2: 96 runs 4 wickets 29.2 overs. Session 3: 85 runs 3 wickets 32 overs. Overall in the day a total of 265 runs for the loss of 14 wickets in 87.2 overs. With the trophy already being retained by India the visitors would hope to level the four-match series as they would aim to win the remaining two matches. India have been outrightly dominant in the home conditions mainly due to the fact that spin isn't everyone's cup of tea and especially when they face the duo of Ashwin-Jadeja. Moreover lethal seaming deliveries of Mohammed Shami have been quite effective in these conditions causing the visitors some serious trouble. Skipper Rohit Sharma has looked in touch with the bat as he thumped a classy century in the first game in Nagpur and again he could pile on plenty of runs in this game. Talking about Australia Everything is trouble at the moment for the visiting side. They are plagued with injuries along with their skipper Pat Cummins returning home to stay with his mother who is not well. Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb played resilient knocks in the Delhi Test and would be hoping to continue their show with support from other batters. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne couldn't really fire in the previous game as they fell victim to some brilliant bowling especially by R Ashwin. Can the Aussies turn things around? India Team News: Rohit Sharma has only one selection call to make. Persist with the now ex-vice captain KL Rahul or bring in the in-form Shubman Gill. Both batters have indulged in long practice sessions for two days in the build-up to this Test. However it was Gill that turned up alongside his captain for an optional net session on the eve of the match hinting that it may well be his turn to have a go in this series. The Indian captain however stated that training patterns or even the removal of Rahul's vice-captaincy were not indicators of selection to the XI. He also reiterated his claim that "players with potential going through a tough time will be given enough time to prove themselves." Make sense of all that if you will. Australia Team News: Australia will have a new captain and a fairly new-look bowling attack for this Test. Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc so long the subject of fitness scrutiny on the tour are finally expected to take the field in this series. The left-arm seamer will come in for Cummins and the all-rounder's return likely in place of Matt Renshaw. Australia are also likely to play their three spinners from Delhi and have a deeper five-man attack. However they haven't yet ruled out Lance Morris and his 'pace through the air' or an extra batter as options. What to expect: The summer is settling in ever so steadily in central India. While the mornings are still pleasant mid-afternoon temperatures will climb up to 34 degrees Celsius during the Test match. This will have an effect on the pitch which as Smith reckoned was dry from the six-meter good length towards the stumps on each side. So spin will continue to remain a big factor. India have made big scores in each of the two Tests played here. Neither of those games against New Zealand and Bangladesh however were played this late in the Indian season. And so as ever the first innings advantage will count for a lot and Australia for one will hope Smith will have imbibed Cummins' luck with the toss. Although it should be noted that Madhya Pradesh made 245 (won) and 241 (lost) in the fourth innings here in the Ranji Trophy quarters and semis respectively earlier this month. The Test match is interestingly poised with neither team ahead in the game. A competitive day comes to an end. Winning the toss and opting to bat first Australia got off to a solid start courtesy of Usman Khawaja who held the innings together. He shared a 50-run stand alongside David Warner who struggled through his innings. He scored 15 off 44 balls. Marnus missed out today as he scored 18. Smith went for a duck. Travis Head on his comeback scored 12. But it was Peter Handscomb who held the latter part of the innings together with his unbeaten 72* off 142 balls. He was ably supported by skipper Pat Cummins who scored a fighting 33 off 59 balls. Nathan Lyon scored 10 as 16 extras were given by the fielding side. Australia were eventually bowled out for 263 in 78.4 overs. From India's bowler's point of view three bowlers took all the 10 wickets. Mohammad Shami was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/60 in 14.4 overs. He was ably supported by the spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Ashwin had figures of 3/57 in while Jadeja had figures of 3/68. Mohammad Siraj bowled well without luck while Axar Patel went wicketless again. India had to come and negotiate the 9 overs that were left for the day. They just about did it with Rohit Sharma overturning a caught at short leg appeal successfully off Nathan Lyon. Rohit is batting on 13* while the out of form KL Rahul is batting on 4*. 4 extras have been given by the fielding side so far. Australia have used three bowlers so far with Cummins Lyon and Kuhnemann bowling today. We will see Todd Murphy bowling Today. An intriguing day is ahead of us. So India trail by 242 runs with 10 wickets in hand as we enter an intriguing second day's play Today. A crucial day awaits us as Today can dictate where this Test match goes. Usman Khawaja: "With quality batters like Ashwin and Jadeja it is always tougher. Tried to bat a little longer today. The game plan has been pretty steady for me. Yeah I enjoyed it [hitting reverse sweeps]. I have been playing in Asian conditions for a long time. I tried to hit one shot over mid-off and then I found it risky. When the ball is spinning the hardest thing to do is to hit straight. Yeah he [Peter Handscomb] played really well. He batted beautifully today. Hope so You score 260 today and you don't know what's a good score until the other team bats. I have already played here once. The last time I played in Delhi it was a 200 or 200 past game. I think we will get to know today where the game heads." Session Breakdown ( 2nd Test Day 1): Session 1: 25 overs 94 runs 3 wickets - Session 2: 31 overs 105 runs 3 wickets - Session 3: 31.4 overs 85 runs 4 wickets. Handscomb's impact edges Khawaja (81) due to the situation of the match and the way he crafted his innings with lower-order and the tail. The home side leads the series 1-0 and the Kangaroos will look to equalize the tally. The Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi is all set for the clash of the Titans and at our end. The Backdrop Australia came to the series prepared for the Indian spinners but there was an Ashwin factor that revolved around their mind. They practiced against an imitator of Anna and seemed to be high on morale. Only if they knew that there's a so-called Ravindra Jadeja who would wrap up five wickets in the first innings clearing out their best batters. In addition they practiced against the action of Ashwin but not the variation and the mind. Eventually the witty spinner went on to topple the Aussie batters in the second innings handing India an innings victory and 132 runs. Marnus Labuschagne was the only batter who could touch the 40 runs mark for them in the first Test. Steve Smith who looked in good touch in the first innings was unbeaten in the second one. Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "Yeah looks like that. The pitch is dry. Obviously batting first would be ideal. But like the last game we would like to clear the toss factor out of our way. Yeah absolutely it is important when you play in India. You don't worry about the toss that much. You come and play well. That's what we talked about in the group as well. You don't need to worry about the toss and play at your best. 100 test matches is not easy. He has gone through a lot of ups and downs and he has maintained his composure. One change for us. Shreyas Iyer comes in place of Suryakumar Yadav." Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): "We will bat first. Looks like a good wicket and will want to put the runs on the board. Yes new day new Test match take the learnings of the last game and put it forward. None of Green or Starc is playing. We have two changes today. Travis Head is in place of Matt Renshaw and Matthew Kuhnemann is making his Test debut in place of Scott Boland." Just in: Matthew Kuhnemann has been given his Baggy Green - cap number 466. His Queensland teammate Marnus Labuschagne presents him the cap. Another spinner making his debut for Australia in the sub-continent. Australia came into this tour off the back of a very successful home summer but they were totally outplayed in the first Test. However it wasn't all doom and gloom as the Aussies did find a potential successor to Nathan Lyon as the debutant Todd Murphy impressed with seven in his first innings. We can also expect a few changes to their line-up with Mitchell Starc back fit and Matthew Kuhnemann getting a maiden call-up perhaps even a chance for 4th ranked Test batter Travis Head. Australia are surely a better side than the first Test proved and they need to look at the previous BGT series to look for inspiration on how to comeback from a demoralizing loss. Let's hope for a more competitive second Test. Pitch Report: First reaction is it looks better than the first Test. It is a two-faced pitch which looks good in the centre but changes as you come closer to the stumps that's where the spinners will be effective. It looks like a Day 3 wicket right now with big cracks already right in the zone for the spinners. The groundmen though say it is unlikely to break up. It is a very dry wicket so don't be surprised if the seamers come into play early. Pretty good for batting first on Day 1 analyze Sanjay Manjrekar and Matthew Hayden. The umpires draw the bails as stumps have been called on day 1 of the series opener at Nagpur. Team India have one hand on the contest as they first dismissed the Australians for a paltry 177 taking a little over 2 sessions and now have scored 77 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket trailing by 100 runs. KL Rahul was the only casualty as he was dismissed in the dying moments of the day by debutant Todd Murphy. Mohammed Siraj and Shami with the early strikes followed by a five-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja and 3 wickets from R Ashwin who became the second Indian to claim 450 Test wickets were helpful in bundling the visitors after India lost the toss early in the day. The Australian openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja scored just 1 run each and departed in the space of 6 balls. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith the number 1 and 2 batters in the ICC Test rankings then put up a solid partnership of 82 runs for the third wicket only to be broken by Ravindra Jadeja who was well assisted by KS Bharat on debut. There were a couple of missed chances when Kohli failed to stick to a chance off Steve Smith's bat but it didn't cost the team too much as the former skipper soon departed for 37. Labuschagne was the top scorer with 49 runs. Alex Carey looked in good touch hitting 36 off just 33 balls adding 53 runs with Peter Handscomb who tried to hold the fort scoring 31 in 84 deliveries becoming the 9th Australian wicket to fall. There were 15 extras as not more than 4 visiting batters managed to score into double figures. Jadeja struck straightaway in his comeback Test. Rohit Sharma started with three boundaries in the first over bowled by his opposite number Pat Cummins and provided a good start to the team doing the bulk of the scoring getting to his 15th half-century in Test cricket. He is joined by Ravichandran Ashwin batting and is yet to get off the mark. Debutant Todd Murphy got Australia the only breakthrough taking a good return catch after the openers added 76 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (22-8-47-5): "The way I was bowling I was enjoying. Playing Test cricket after five months you know it is hard. I played First Class game after some time. I bowled 45 overs there and it helped me to come here and bowl. I looked to bowl into the stumps. I was looking to target the stumps. One ball was spinning and the odd ball was going straight. Yeah always I give credit to the ball but the interesting thing is whatever you take to be happy with that. I was in the NCA bowling 10-12 hours every day. Especially I was working on my rhythm. I think if you play after five months you need to be positive. I was not thinking about my injury but was trying to perform. I was looking to grab that opportunity." 1st Test Day 1 Match Summary Session by Session in Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium Nagpur Maharashtra Session Breakdown (1st Test Day 1): Session-1: 32 overs 76 runs - 2 wickets - Session-2: 28 overs 98 runs - 6 wickets - Session-3: 27.5 overs 80 runs - 3 wickets.
