#RussellWestbrook, #Agent Thad Foucher Part-Ways 'Irreconcilable Differences' | Russ Wants Out According to Wojnarowski, Foucher has represented Westbrook since he turned pro and was the No. 4 pick of the 2008 draft. Foucher said the two have a difference of opinion on the approach to take going forward. “Now, with a possibility of a fourth trade in four years, the marketplace is telling the #Lakers they must add additional value with Russell in any trade scenario. And even then, such a trade may require Russell to immediately move on from the new team via buyout. “My belief is that this type of transaction only serves to diminish Russell’s value and his best option is to stay with the Lakers, embrace the starting role and support that (head coach) Darvin Ham publicly offered. Russell is a first-ballot Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame player and will prove that again before he is retired. “Unfortunately, irreconcilable differences exist as to his best pathway forward and we are no longer working together. I wish Russell and his family the very best,” Foucher said as part of a larger statement. Westbrook has been the subject of frequent trade rumors in his rocky tenure with the Lakers, and based on Foucher’s statement, it sounds like the former MVP might be ready for a new team, but obviously Foucher thought it was best to remain in L.A. to try and rebuild his value. The 33-year-old appeared in 78 games (34.3 MPG) with the Lakers in 2021/22, averaging 18.5 PPG, 7.4 RPG and 7.1 APG on .444/.298/.667 shooting. He was heavily scrutinized by the media and fans due to his shot selection, poor defense and lack of accountability, as he blamed former coach Frank Vogel for some of his issues. #Lakers, Nets 'Actively Engaged' on #KyrieIrving, Russell Westbrook Trade | #LakersTradeRumors It appears that the idea of Kyrie Irving teaming up with LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers is gaining traction. The Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are "actively engaged" in trade discussions centered around Irving and Russell Westbrook, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. "There's palpable optimism that an agreement can be struck between the two sides this offseason, but there remain a few hurdles, sources said," Haynes wrote. The two sides continue to talk about draft compensation, and the Nets want the Lakers to take Joe Harris in the deal, according to Haynes. Harris, who is recovering from ankle surgery, is owed $38.6 million over the next two years, and the Purple and Gold "have been disinclined to the inclusion of" the veteran, Haynes added. L.A. wants Seth Curry included in the deal instead. "The Nets are not expected to be rushed into a deal and will continue conversing the complex specifics with the Lakers on an Irving-Westbrook swap," Haynes wrote. The news comes after ESPN's Stephen A. Smith reported that Irving wanted to re-join James in L.A. "as soon as he possibly can" (h/t Adam Zagoria of NJ Advance Media. In addition, The Athletic's Jovan Buha and Sam Amick reported that Irving teaming up with James again is a real possibility. Amick, Alex Schiffer and Joe Vardon of The Athletic added that Irving was focused on joining the Lakers before opting in to his contract with the Nets for the 2022-23 season. So Z Nation, do you expect a deal between the Lakers and Nets will happen??? #Lakers Hired #ChrisJent To Join Darvin Ham’s #CoachingStaff Darvin Ham is making an addition to his coaching staff. The Los Angeles Lakers are hiring Atlanta Hawks assistant Chris Jent as their top assistant coach, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Ham recruited Jent to join the team over the last week. Jent entered the NBA as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2003-04 season and worked in the same capacity for the Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Sacramento Kings. He helped oversee the development of current Laker LeBron James from 2006-11 while with the Cavaliers. James was an All-Star in each of those seasons and was the scoring champion in 2007-08. Jent had served as an assistant for the Hawks for the last five years and worked alongside Ham in Atlanta during the 2017-18 season. Wojnarowski noted Jent and Ham "have maintained a strong relationship" since their time working together with the Hawks. So Z Nation, what do you think about the Lakers hiring Chris Jent to Darvin Ham’s coaching staff??? #Lakers Granted Permission to Interview Warriors' #KennyAtkinson for #HeadCoachingJob Kenny Atkinson is trying to help lead the Golden State Warriors to a championship as an assistant coach this season, but he may be on the sidelines for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022-23. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Purple and Gold were given permission to interview Atkinson for the head coaching job after firing Frank Vogel at season's end. The Lakers' job comes with plenty of intrigue. On the one hand, Los Angeles is one of the league's storied franchises and will have the legendary LeBron James leading the way on the court. On the other hand, there may not be much job security since Vogel led the team to a title just two years ago in 2020 and is already out of a job after a 33-49 season. The team requires plenty of changes, including potentially moving on from Russell Westbrook after his first season with the organization did not go according to script. Atkinson could be in high demand, as Wojnarowski reported he already interviewed for the Charlotte Hornets job. He was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2016-17 through 2019-20 and finished with a 118-190 record and one playoff appearance. He and the Nets decided to mutually part ways prior to the end of the 2019-20 season. While it wasn't the best mark, he also was working under difficult circumstances, with D'Angelo Russell traded to the Golden State Warriors and then stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving sidelined with injuries in the latter portion of his tenure. That left the Nets relying largely on role players for stretches. Atkinson also has experience as an assistant coach for the New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers. Golden State went 53-29 this season, which was his first on the staff, and leads the Memphis Grizzlies 3-1 in the Western Conference Semifinals. So Z Nation, should the Lakers target Kenny Atkinson for the HC job??? #Lakers Beat #Thunder 120-101, #StanleyJohnson 21 Pts, Wenyen Gabriel 16 Pts Off The Bench Still without their stars, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in their final home game on Friday night, 120-101. Dwight Howard muscled his way to a pair of dunks to begin the contest, though the Lakers found themselves tied 7-7 with the Thunder. Malik Monk got involved offensively with a drive to the rim for an and-one and a lob, but a turnover allowed Oklahoma City to go up 14-12. Monk was able to find Austin Reaves in the corner for a three, but Laker turnovers turned into easy points for the Thunder, who extended their lead to six. Wenyen Gabriel and Wayne Ellington hit back-to-back threes, but Los Angeles found themselves trailing 28-27 after one. Mason Jones finally got on the scoreboard early in the second after being called up from the G League, powering through a defender for an and-one to put the Lakers ahead 38-32. Defensively, L.A. did a better job of forcing Oklahoma City into tougher shots, and a couple of Monk layups kept them up midway through the quarter. Stanley Johnson got aggressive on the offensive, barreling to the rim on a few occasions and hitting a midrange jumper to maintain the Lakers’ steady lead. However, Jaylen Hoard was able to fight for a few baskets at the end of the half, leaving L.A. only up 56-52 at halftime. It was a poor defensive start to the third for the Lakers who allowed open shots to the Thunder, prompting a timeout from head coach Frank Vogel. Howard was able to take advantage of Isaiah Roby’s foul trouble by getting deep post position and scoring but the team found themselves tied 69-69 regardless. Gabriel subbed in and immediately provided a jolt of energy, eventually getting a rise out of the crowd for a putback dunk. The Laker bench was able to create some separation when they hit several difficult shots and they went into the fourth up 90-82. Jones showed off his ability to finish through contact again with a tough drive that resulted in a three-point play. L.A. really began to pull away as they scored nearly every time down the floor, ballooning their lead to 15. The Lakers continued to pound away the tired Thunder defense, with Johnson in particular using his physicality to get all the to the basket on several occasions. With a large lead, the Purple and Gold were able to cruise to a victory and snap their eight-game losing streak. So Z Nation, what did you think about the Lakers win against the OKC Thunder??? Lakers TRADING Rajon Rondo To The Cleveland Cavaliers | Lakers Trade Rumors The Cleveland Cavaliers are holding "serious talks" with the Los Angeles Lakers to acquire veteran point guard Rajon Rondo, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. That comes in the wake of Ricky Rubio tearing his ACL this week, ending his season, while Collin Sexton was already out for the year with a torn meniscus. Those two injuries have left the resurgent Cavs (20-14) incredibly thin at point guard. Rondo, 35, hasn't made much of an impact for the Lakers this season, averaging just 3.1 points and 3.7 assists in 16.1 minutes per game across 18 contests. While a hamstring injury and his current stint in the league's health and safety protocols have cost him games, he's fallen down the pecking order in the rotation. And with veteran Darren Collison recently added to the roster, Rondo is expendable for the Lakers. Quick thoughts on CLE acquiring Rondo (assuming it happens!): -CLE will use Minimum Salary Exception to acquire Rondo. No need to use McGee TPE or send a salary back to LA. -LA is doing this to clear a roster spot & tax hit vs waiving a player. Likely to keep Stanley Johnson. More thoughts on CLE acquiring Rondo (assuming it happens!): -CLE will need to waive a player. Probably Ed Davis, given his non-gtd status -LA will create a small $1.7M TPE, but it will probably go unused, given they'd just trade using Minimum Salary Exception + no roster spots His potential trade would end his second stint with the team after he spent the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons with the Lakers, which included winning a title. But since spending parts of the first nine seasons of his career with the Boston Celtics, Rondo hasn't lasted anywhere long. Since leaving Boston in the 2014-15 season, Rondo has played for seven different teams and hasn't lasted more than two years at any one destination. If nothing else, Rondo will bring experience to a young Cavaliers team trying to reach the postseason for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign, when LeBron James still played for the team. Led by Darius Garland (19.5 PPG, 7.3 APG), Jarrett Allen (16.8 PPG, 10.8 RPG) and ascendant rookie Evan Mobley (14.1 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 1.8 BPG), the Cavs are one of the NBA's best stories this season. Rondo should help patch up some of the team's depth issues in the backcourt. So Z Nation, how do you feel about the Lakers trading Rajon Rondo to the Cleveland Cavaliers??? Lakers Comeback Effort Falls Short vs Knicks, Russell Westbrook Triple Double, AD 20 Pts Lakers Comeback Effort Falls Short vs Knicks, Russell Westbrook Triple Double, AD 20 Pts The Lakers played without LeBron James, who served his one-game suspension after his altercation with Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart on Sunday. L.A. listed Anthony Davis as questionable with flu-like symptoms (non-COVID related) pregame, but he suited up and finished with 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting and six rebounds in 34 minutes. The Knicks improved to 10-8. The 9-10 Lakers have lost four of five. Notable Performances: Lakers PG Russell Westbrook: 31 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists Lakers F/C Anthony Davis: 20 points, 6 rebounds Lakers G Avery Bradley: 15 Pts, 9 rebounds Lakers F Carmelo Anthony: 12 points Knicks G Evan Fournier: 26 points Knicks F Julius Randle: 20 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists Knicks G Immanuel Quickley: 14 points Short-Handed Lakers Can't Make Enough Shots: The Lakers played this game without James and with an under-the-weather Davis. That left it up to Westbrook to take over, and he was the best player on the floor en route to his dominant triple-double. His 31 points came on an efficient 10-of-18 clip, and after a sloppy first half (five turnovers), Westbrook had just one in the final two frames. Davis did well all things considered, gutting out 34 minutes as he clearly played at less than 100 percent. The Lakers were still plus-eight with him on the court. The problem was the rest of the Lakers largely struggled outside a good performance from Avery Bradley (15 points, nine rebounds). Talen Horton-Tucker, who entered the night averaging 16.0 points per game, finished with none on 0-of-8 shooting in 29 minutes. Carmelo Anthony and Malik Monk each scored 12 points, but they combined to shoot 8-of-28 (3-of-15 three-point range). Wayne Ellington shot just 1-of-3 for four points in 17 minutes. The Lakers ended up missing all seven of their three-point attempts in the final five minutes. Wide-open chances were there, but the shots did not fall. They ended up only hitting five field goals in the final quarter, or just one more than the number of Quickley three-pointers in the final 12 minutes. L.A. needed some firepower down the stretch to counteract that display, but the shots didn't fall in MSG as the Lakers fell under .500. The Lakers will visit the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Indianapolis' Bankers Life Fieldhouse. So Z Nation, what did you think about the Lakers loss against the New York Knicks??? Russell Westbrook, Lakers Suffer 3rd-Quarter Collapse in 107-83 Loss to T-Wolves The Minnesota Timberwolves outscored the Los Angeles Lakers 40-12 in the third quarter en route to a 107-83 road win in Staples Center on Friday evening. L.A. led 49-44 at halftime before Minnesota turned a close game into a blowout. Karl-Anthony Towns outscored the Lakers 18-12 in the third quarter alone, hitting four three-pointers along the way. He finished with 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting and seven rebounds. The Lakers got little production outside Anthony Davis (22 points) and Russell Westbrook (20), with the rest of the team combining to score just 41 on 15-of-58 shooting. L.A. continued to play without LeBron James, who missed his fifth straight game with an abdominal strain. The 4-7 Timberwolves broke a six-game losing skid. The 7-6 Lakers' two-game win streak ended. Notable Performances: Timberwolves C Karl-Anthony Towns: 29 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals Timberwolves PG D'Angelo Russell: 22 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds Timberwolves G Patrick Beverley: 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists Lakers PF/C Anthony Davis: 22 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals Lakers PG Russell Westbrook: 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists Lakers Post Historically Bad Third Quarter and Second Half With 11:17 remaining in the third quarter, Davis hit a 19-foot jumper to give the Lakers a 51-47 lead. From that point forward, the Lakers did not make another basket for nearly eight minutes of game time when Avery Bradley knocked down a three-pointer with 3:44 remaining to cut the Minnesota lead to 73-56. That three was moot. Minnesota had engineered a 27-2 run between the Davis and Bradley buckets, with the Lakers' only points coming on a pair of AD free throws. Towns had seven points of his own in that stretch, and that was before he closed the quarter with 11 more points in the final four minutes to finish the frame with 18 and give Minnesota a 23-point edge going into the fourth. On the other end, the Lakers missed 14 straight shots and committed three turnovers. By the time the quarter (and game) were over, this Lakers team found itself on the wrong side of history. Despite the loss, the sky isn't completely falling in L.A. Yes, 7-6 isn't where the Lakers want to be, but James isn't on the court. It appears he may be back soon, per head coach Frank Vogel's pregame comments (h/t Lakers reporter Mike Trudell). Sure, losing by 24 at home to a 4-7 team isn't ideal, but it's only November. The Lakers have time to work out their issues, although a multitude of them exist after 13 contests. So Z Nation, what did you think about the Lakers disappointing loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves??? And who is to blame for the Lakers loss tonight???
