Ivory Coast defeated Ethiopia 3-1 in their final group K, Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match at the Alassane stadium in Abidjan but both sides managed to seal a place in next year’s tournament. The victory saw the Elephants finish at the top of Group K while Ethiopia qualified in second position after Madagascar and Niger played to a goalless draw. It took just three minutes for the Elephants to take the lead through Willy Boly then Franck Kessie doubled the lead from the spot in the 19th minute. Ethiopia scored with 16 minutes left on the clock but Ivory Coast sealed the win in the 76th minute. Central Africa Republic were beaten 1-0 by Mauritania in the other match played today. AFCON:Harambee Stars beat Togo
Harambee stars finished the AFCON qualifiers on a high defeating Togo 2-1 despite having already been knocked out. Kenya took the lead through Hassan Abdalla before a 62nd minute penalty from Masoud Juma doubled the lead. Togo earned a consolation from the spot late on which was not enough to stage a comeback as stars hang on for the victory. East African counter parts Uganda were also knocked out after a 1-0 defeat to Malawi.
