Four Turkish players scored in double figures to lift their squad to their first win in the final round. Gozde Yilmaz led the Turkish side with 18 points, then Ebrar Karakurt added 16 points and Kubra Caliskan and Meliha Ismailoglu had 14 points apiece. The home team relied on the offence of Liu Yanhan who topped all scorers with 21 markers, while her teammates Gong Xiangyu and Zheng Yixin made 15 and 10 points, respectively, in the losing effort. China ended the Preliminary Round at the top of the ranking with 12 wins from 15 matches, despite being automatically qualified for the Finals as the tournament hosts. Last year's finalists, Turkey, meanwhile, claimed 11 wins to take fifth place. Pre-match stats: China - Turkey (July 3, 2019) Head-to-Head · China and Turkey will clash for the 11th time in world level major competitions. China won seven of the previous 10 meetings (W7-L3). · China have won six of their last seven matches against Turkey at world level, with the only exception a 3-1 defeat in last year's VNL preliminary round. Turkey's Hande Baladin won 27 points, at least nine more than any other player on the field. · Earlier this VNL campaign, China claimed a 3-0 preliminary round win over Turkey in Jiangmen on 12 June. Meliha Ismailoglu (15), Ebrar Karakurt (15) and Gong Xiangyu (14) led the scoring. China · Reigning Olympic champions China finished in third place in the inaugural edition of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in 2018. They beat Brazil in straight sets in the third-place decider (25-18, 25-22, 25-22). · China won 12 matches in this year's VNL preliminary round (W12-L3), the joint-most along with United States (W12-L3). China entered the 2018 final round after winning just seven of their 15 preliminary round fixtures (W7-L8). They finished in ninth place but qualified for the final six as hosts of the final phase. · Last year, China started the VNL final round with a 3-1 victory over Netherlands. Lang Ping's side came from behind to beat the Dutch 3-1 at the Olympic Sports Centre in Nanjing on 27 June 2018. · China have won 12 of their last 13 VNL matches, with the only exception in that run a straight-set defeat against USA on 13 June. · Only United States (18) have won more VNL matches in straight sets than China (16). · Zhu Ting (119) and Yuan Xinyue (119) finished the 2019 VNL preliminary round as China's top points scorers. · With 106 spikes from 208 attempts (50.96%), Zhu Ting was among the best attackers in the 2019 VNL preliminary round. · Zhu Ting was China's top scorer in each of their four final round fixtures in the 2018 VNL, combining for a total of 87 points. · No player scored more points in the 2018 VNL final round than Zhu Ting (87). USA's Michelle Bartsch-Hackley followed on 78 points. Turkey · Turkey lost the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League final 3-2 against United States, despite taking the lead twice (25-17, 22-15, 28-16, 15-25, 7-15). · Turkey's second-place finish in the 2018 VNL was their second podium spot at a world level major competition, after a third place at the 2012 World Grand Prix. · Turkey won 11 of their 15 preliminary round matches in this year's VNL. They finished the 2018 preliminary round with the exact same record (W11-L4). · Turkey opened last year's final round with a five-set defeat against United States. Giovanni Guidetti's team took a 2-0 lead in sets only to witness USA fight back to 3-2 at the Olympic Sports Centre in Nanjing on 27 June 2018. · Turkey have played a total of 10 five-setters in the VNL, the joint-most along with Italy. · With 217 points, Ebrar Karakurt finished in seventh place in the 2019 VNL preliminary round top scorers list. TEHRAN – Iran eased past Japan 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-19) at the second competition week of the men’s 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League on Sunday. Milad Ebadipour scored 14 points for Team Melli, and Mayu Ishikawa also scored 14 points for Japan in Pool 7 at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza in Tokyo, Japan. Team Melli started the Week 2 with a 3-2 loss to Brazil 3-2 and defeated Argentina 3-1 in the next match. Igor Kolakovic’s men had already defeated Italy, China and Germany in Jiangmen last week. Iran will host Russia, Poland and Canada in Week 3. The competition is being held between May and July 2019 and the final round will take place in the Credit Union 1 Arena, Chicago, United States. This is the first edition of the World League or the Nations League to have the Final Round hosted in North America. The 16 teams compete in a round-robin format with every core team hosting a pool at least once. The teams are divided into four pools of four teams at each week and compete five weeks long, for 120 matches. The top five teams after the preliminary round join the hosts of the final round to compete in the final round. The relegation takes into consideration only the four challenger teams. The last ranked challenger team will be excluded from the 2020 Nations League. The winners of the Challenger Cup will qualify for the next edition as a challenger team. The six qualified teams play in 2 pools of 3 teams in round-robin. The top two teams of each pool qualify for the semifinals. The pool winners play against the runners-up in this round. The 25-year-old outside hitter had another field day, scoring 26 points with an excellent 65% attacking efficiency. Captain Natalia Pereira was back on the starting lineup, but again only played in the first set, before being substituted for Amanda Francisco. On the other side of the net, Andrea Drews with 19 points and Dana Rettke with a great match and 17 dealt with the scoring, but that brought USA no nowhere near to a win. Brazil's victory brings the South American powerhouse to within the qualifying zone for the Final Six of the VNL (3-7 July in Nanjing). But after only their second defeat of the season, USA dropped to 7-2 allowing Turkey to enjoy solitude at the top of the table on 8-1. The Balkan side had previously completed their obligations in Week 3 with three straight wins in Bangkok. And when the VNL reconvenes in a week's time, fans in Jiangmen will get to watch four of the top five teams in the standings: Turkey, USA, China and Poland. Week 3 provided some thrilling action across the board, including some high-scoring performances by Italy's Paola Egonu (40 points against China, 2-3), the Dominican Republic's Brayelin Martinez (36 against Thailand, 3-2), Poland's Malwina Smarzek (33 against Russia, 3-2) and Germany's Louisa Lippmann (30 against Brazil, 3-2).
