Was Lewis Hamilton ROBBED? | The F1 Breakdown | Abu Dhabi GP
So the race started, and by the end turn 7 we had our first bit of controversy. Hamilton, again, got a blinder of a start, with Verstappen just not getting away well at all. And with Hamilton on the inside, he slipped into the lead quite easily. Even though Verstappen’s start wasn’t great, his tyres were up to temperature quicker and he was looking quick in the first few corners. He got a great run out of the turn 4 hairpin and was in Hamilton’s slipstream. By the end of the straight Verstappen was two or three car lengths behind the Hamilton at the braking zone - he didn’t look like he was in a position to try and make a move - and yet he did. But before we get into whether what happened was fair or not, it’s worth talking about Verstappen’s “jink and dive” technique - that’s not actually what people call it, it’s what’s going on. I think I’ll coin that one. It’s where Verstappen - and other drivers - turn the car sharply just before a braking zone - and then brake. They then drive in a diagonal line down to the apex of the corner. Lewis tries to turn in, but Max is already there. The two make very slight contact. Verstappen keeps it in the track, and Hamilton skirts across the runoff, keeping his position. So let’s look at it from the perspective of each driver. First, Verstappen. He was on the softer tyre compared to Hamilton - on which he was supposed to get a better start and gap him over the first 15 laps. So, after the bad start, he needed to make a move quickly. Verstappen’s championship position also meant he could be bolder with his wheel-tp-wheel racing. Plus, it’s Verstappen, who as we know absolutely sends it with any opportunity. There’s no doubt this was an aggressive move, but this time - as opposed to some of the other incidents we’ve seen this year, Verstappen managed to keep it on the track - within the white lines. So, in my opinion, Verstappen make an aggressive move, but one that was completely legal. He did force Lewis of the track, but Lewis was on the outside and could have yielded earlier. The way I like to think about racing is that as long as one driver doesn’t t-bone [add funny image] another, aggressive racing is ok. Jersey Reds flew back empty-handed from London for the second weekend running after a disappointing second-half display against Richmond. Playing on their own turf in what was nominally an away fixture, Richmond recovered from a single-point half-time deficit to seize control of the game with two converted tries in the early stages of the second period. The Jersey squad battled throughout but a high error count and the concession of 14 penalties meant they had too much to do and a mauled try at the death was too little, too late. Richmond had the first chance to score points when Ted Landray went for the posts early on, but hooked his effort wide, and his team were denied again when Chris Elder burst through but was called back for a forward pass. Both sides were struggling to impose themselves, with plentiful penalties in both directions and an enthusiasm to penalise the attacking side for rolling forward with momentum before presenting the ball. The Jersey lineout was also functioning fitfully, meaning that the opportunity to attack via driving mauls was compromised. But the Reds – wearing Blue for the day – got the opening score when Brendan Cope picked off an intercept and coasted to the posts from 40 metres out, adding a straightforward conversion. Landray was able to haul his side back into contention by slotting two penalties as the Reds were unable to stay on the right side of the referee, conceding a total of eight penalties to five by Richmond in the first period. There was also an early change in the Jersey pack with Sean O’Connor forced off and Macauley Cook coming on for his debut. Cope stretched his team’s lead with a well-struck early penalty from 43 metres, but almost straight from the resumption Richmond claimed their opening try. The ball was stolen in possession by Myles Scott and fed by Freddie Hosking to former Reds’ scrum-half Luc Jones, who crossed in the corner. Ahead for the first time, Richmond stretched their advantage to 10 points after a spell of pressure. Landray spotted an opportunity out wide and although his run initially took him backwards, he veered towards the line and then threw a long pass to Dan Kelly, with the winger jinking inside to score. Landray’s third penalty just after the hour gave his side some breathing space (10-23) and although there was some good energy from the Reds’ bench, no points resulted until a maul was finished by George Edgson. Cope’s conversion could have brought his team within bonus point range, but slid just wide.

SAMOA VS PNG KUMULS - PACIFIC TEST 2019
WHY CAN’T MILFORD DO THIS EVERY WEEK? Anthony Milford looked like a man possessed as Samoa took on PNG. The Bronco was uncharacteristically aggressive for Samoa and led their charge against the Kumuls. He put a big shot on winger Eddie Rau, and kept up the intensity going for the whole game. His jinking cross-field runs caused headaches for PNG and nearly sent Samoa in on a few occasion. He scored a brilliant try late on as he mazed his way past seven PNG defenders to only for the referee to chalk it off. Still, it was the best play of the night and one which brought Leichardt Oval to its feet. If he can go back to Brisbane and take that level of performance with him then it bodes well for the second half of the season. Match Report. Samoa recorded their first Test win in three years in a convincing 24-6 defeat of Papua New Guinea at Leichardt Oval. Despite strong performance in the first half, Samoa were held to a 12-6 lead at the break against a Kumuls side which included several debutants, including fullback Edene Gebbie, who had a night to forget under the high ball. The tide swung towards PNG early in the second half, but Michael Marum’s side could not capitalise on the territorial advantage they had. In the end, it was left to a rampaging run from man-of-the-match Junior Paulo, and a bizarre rebound try from Chanel Harris-Tavita to seal the deal Kiwi defector Martin Taupau was a standout in his first appearance with Toa Samoa since his Test debut in 2013 and, along with prop Paulo, did most of the midfield damage. Earlier, forwards Jarome Luai and Josh Aloiai combined to set each other up for Samoa’s first two tries, which laid the platform for a half-time lead. Terry Wapi cut the lead with a solo effort from dummy half, but his score was to be PNG’s only try of the night. This was Samoa’s biggest win since their first meeting with PNG, at the 2013 World Cup.
