WHY CAN’T MILFORD DO THIS EVERY WEEK? Anthony Milford looked like a man possessed as Samoa took on PNG. The Bronco was uncharacteristically aggressive for Samoa and led their charge against the Kumuls. He put a big shot on winger Eddie Rau, and kept up the intensity going for the whole game. His jinking cross-field runs caused headaches for PNG and nearly sent Samoa in on a few occasion. He scored a brilliant try late on as he mazed his way past seven PNG defenders to only for the referee to chalk it off. Still, it was the best play of the night and one which brought Leichardt Oval to its feet. If he can go back to Brisbane and take that level of performance with him then it bodes well for the second half of the season. Match Report. Samoa recorded their first Test win in three years in a convincing 24-6 defeat of Papua New Guinea at Leichardt Oval. Despite strong performance in the first half, Samoa were held to a 12-6 lead at the break against a Kumuls side which included several debutants, including fullback Edene Gebbie, who had a night to forget under the high ball. The tide swung towards PNG early in the second half, but Michael Marum’s side could not capitalise on the territorial advantage they had. In the end, it was left to a rampaging run from man-of-the-match Junior Paulo, and a bizarre rebound try from Chanel Harris-Tavita to seal the deal Kiwi defector Martin Taupau was a standout in his first appearance with Toa Samoa since his Test debut in 2013 and, along with prop Paulo, did most of the midfield damage. Earlier, forwards Jarome Luai and Josh Aloiai combined to set each other up for Samoa’s first two tries, which laid the platform for a half-time lead. Terry Wapi cut the lead with a solo effort from dummy half, but his score was to be PNG’s only try of the night. This was Samoa’s biggest win since their first meeting with PNG, at the 2013 World Cup.

Jadon Sancho has become the youngest player ever to score for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga’s Revierderby after his winning goal sealed a 2-1 victory over Schalke. Dortmund had taken an early lead through Thomas Delaney before Schalke pulled level through Daniel Caligiuri’s penalty in the second half. But Sancho put Dortmund back in front and won the match with another brilliant solo effort with 16 minutes remaining. Aston Villa 3-0 Reading: Steve Bruce's side cruise to victory over 10-man Royals
Aston Villa bounced back to winning form with an easy 3-0 Sky Bet Championship win over Reading. Steve Bruce's side outplayed struggling Reading for almost the entire game and the Royals, who played with 10 men for the last hour, succumbed to second-half goals from Birkir Bjarnason, Conor Hourihane and Scott Hogan.Reading had defeated Villa in their last two encounters but there were few opportunities to repeat their success as they slumped to their ninth defeat in 10 away games and now find themselves deeply involved in a relegation battle. They were completely dominated by a Villa side who eventually recorded their most comfortable win of the season. It will take some sort of freakish outcome from the final two group games to deprive Manchester United of a place in the last 16 of the Champions League after recording a patchy 2-0 win over Benfica at Old Trafford. Anyone expecting a goal bonanza against a side who had offered little in Portugal two weeks ago would have been sorely disappointed. Anthony Martial had appeared to have earned his side the perfect start when winning a penalty after being brought down following a jinking run into the box but his weak spot-kick was easily pushed away by rookie keeper Mile Svilar. And indeed it was the visitors showing surprising attacking flair who almost snatched a shock lead but were thwarted thanks to a magnificent save by David de Gea from a Gonzales drive. It's really tough for Romalu Lukaku at the moment as the striker once again failed to find the target - his fifth successive start without a goal - but at least was able to record a goal-bound shot, a header just over and a one-on-one with the keeper he would normally have expected to convert. The breakthrough finally came a minute before the break when the outstanding Nemanja Matic's drive came back off a post but hit the diving Svilar on his should before bouncing back into the net, Jose Mourinho rang his final two changes after halftime with Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera replacing Juan Mata and Martial and it was the young England striker who was brought down allowing Daley Blind to fire home the resultant penalty. Benfica was still threatening and missed a couple of opportunities of their own but in truth, the Reds always had this contest under control and the flares let off by the vociferous visiting fans did little to raise their side's spirits.
