FCS AUF DEM BODEN DER TATSACHEN Der 1. FC Saarbrücken wollte nach dem Einzug ins Halbfinale des DFB-Pokals auch in der Regionalliga seine Siegesserie fortsetzen. Doch trotz klarem Chancenplus setzte es beim FC-Astoria Walldorf eine Niederlage. Cheftrainer Lukas Kwasniok nahm vier Veränderungen im Vergleich zum Pokalerfolg gegen Düsseldorf vor. Boné Uaferro fehlte verletzungsbedingt, Christopher Schorch musste aufgrund eines Infekte passen und Gillian Jurcher konnte angeschlagen ebenfalls nicht mitwirken. Dazu nahm Tobias Jänicke zunächst auf der Bank Platz. Im Tor stand wie gewohnt Daniel Batz. Die Viererkette bildeten Anthony Barylla, Nino Miotke, Steven Zellner und Mario Müller. Die Mittelfeldreihe bestand aus Timm Golley, Manuel Zeitz, Fanol Perdedaj und Markus Mendler. Vorne waren Fabian Eisele und Sebastian Jacob unterwegs. Der FCS zeigte von Beginn an die richtige Einstellung. Einzig das Tor wollte nicht fallen. Golley scheiterte nach Freistoß von Mendler bereits in der achten Minute an Keeper Kristof. Auch Perdedaj hatte später wenig Glück, als sein Kopfball nach Mendler-Ecke noch von der Linie gekratzt wurde. Eigentlich war das Führungstor überfällig. Doch auch in der 38. Minute zappelte das Netz nicht. Der Angriff rollte über die rechte Seite. Perdedaj bediente Jacob. Der mit starker Ballannahme, aber wieder stand ein Abwehrbein im Weg. Die Gastgeber zeigten sich weitaus effektiver. Im Spielaufbau ging den Blau-Schwarzen die Kugel verloren. Walldorf nutzte das über die linke Seite. Im Rückraum lauerte Burgio und schlenzte den Ball aus 12 Metern in den Winkel (38.). Der FCS zeigte sich unbeirrt und drängte auf den Ausgleich. Perdedaj in der 41. Minute mit Traumpass in den Lauf von Golley, der erneut an Kristof scheiterte. Und nur Sekunden danach eine Dreifach-Chance. Müller und Perdedaj kombinierten sich nach vorne, doch der Ball wollte nicht ins Tor. Zuletzt wurde Mendler in dieser Situation geblockt. Rein in den zweiten Durchgang ging es ohne Wechsel. Aber weiterhin ohne die nötige Effektivität. In der 52. Minute wurde ein Konter gefahren. Vier Blau-Schwarze kamen aber an einem Walldorfer nicht vorbei. Auch fünf Zeigerumdrehungen später stand beim Abschluss von Perdedaj erneut ein Bein im Weg. Nach etwas mehr als einer Stunde zielte Jacob nach Barylla-Flanke zudem am Kasten vorbei. In der 68. Minute folgten zwei Wechsel. Kianz Froese und Tobias Jänicke kamen für Barylla und Eisele in die Partie. Aber auch ihre Impulse konnten nicht für die Wende sorgen. Ebenso die Einwechslung von José-Pierre Vunguidica in der Schlussphase. Der FCS hatte durch Miotke und Zellner nach Ecken noch zwei Kopfballchance, aber die Kugel segelte jeweils über das Tor. Da auch Walldorf keine der sich in den letzten Minuten bietenden Umschaltsituationen nutzen konnte, blieb des beim 1:0 aus Sicht der Gastgeber. Alles in allem eine überflüssige Niederlage. Aber es heißt Mund abputzen und weiter geht's. Nächste Woche Samstag gastiert dann der 1. FSV Mainz 05 II im Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion. The campus of Oxford University was quiet. In the chilly early-morning air, the only disturbance was the nearly inaudible rustling of Stephen’s clothes as he attempted to find a way into the history building. Stephen squinted up at the rows of windows. One of them had to be left open, somewhere; given the temperature in the building yesterday, it was a safe assumption that the place had never been retrofitted with air conditioning. The clouds obscuring the moon made it difficult to see very much, but Stephen was thankful for them; he was able to carry a ladder underneath his arm with little fear of being seen by a sleepless student glancing out a window. After walking around the entire building and scrutinizing it carefully, Stephen saw the outline of a swung-open windowpane on the building’s southern wall. Wasting no time, he propped his ladder against the wall and climbed up. Soon, he was standing in an office on the third floor. Still taking pains to be quiet, not knowing whether housekeeping would be working this late, he went down to the ground floor where Professor Martin Doyle’s office was located. Stephen was glad to find the door unlocked; he would not have to waste time picking the centuries-old mechanism. He entered the dark office directly, taking out a small, dim flashlight to search for what he sought. Doyle’s aversion to any discussion about the three-point amulet had betrayed his knowledge of it; Stephen was hopeful that there would be some notes or correspondence on the matter. In contrast to the office itself, Doyle’s cabinets were all locked, but a solid whack with the butt-end of the flashlight rectified that inconvenience. Stephen searched with as much haste as he could afford, not knowing when activity in the building would resume In one of the cabinets, tucked behind endless academic journals and hard-copy departmental memos, he found a yellowed, crumbling manuscript. Carefully extracting it from its hiding place, Stephen read the title: “Concerning the Creation and Ensorcellment of Magickal Objects, the Techniques thereof, and how Practitioners thereof Must be Qualified.” There was no publisher or publication date listed, but Stephen did not doubt that he was holding an authentic copy of a 15th-century occult text. Inserted between the cover page and the first page of text was a handwritten note, presumably left by Doyle himself: “I have given Dr. Bird the information he requested from the ‘Magickal Objects…’ text. I am, however, beginning to question his credentials, given the uneducated manner in which he writes his letters; I would not like to damage a relationship with a fellow scholar of the Medieval cabalistic arts, so I keep my concerns to myself. I can only hope that his interest in enchantments is purely academic, as he claims…” The picture was becoming clearer. Larry had indeed spoken to Doyle all those decades ago, and he had used the gained knowledge to create an enchanted three-point shooting amulet just before the NBA would institute the three-point line. Doyle had somehow become aware not only of the amulet, but also its insidious effect on any who dared wear it, and he was determined to never again let such an object be created. But now, the arcane manuscript had been discovered, and its heretical secrets would soon be divulged. Stephen picked it up again and opened to a random page, awed by the intricate diagrams and captivated by the obscure writings… “What are you doing in my office?” came a cold voice from behind Stephen’s seated position at the desk. Stephen’s heart sank as he realized that he had become so lost in the manuscript that it was now fully morning, sunlight streaming through the window. Wordlessly, Stephen tucked the manuscript under his arm and charged at the door. Rather than get run over by the younger, more athletic man, Doyle stepped out the way and grabbed feebly at Stephen’s retreating form. “Stop! Stop!” the scholar yelled, but Stephen knew that he could not stop. Campus security would be called at any moment. He would be detained and his precious document would be taken away from him. No, the only choice was to keep running. “I know who you are!” Doyle accusingly shouted from far down the hallway. “You’re Stephen Curry!” Stephen was so stunned that, for a moment, he had to resist the impulse to stop running. How did the man know his identity? There was no time to think. He burst through the front doors of the building and ran towards the Oxford city center. Finally, he reached a dingy alley where he could catch his breath. The police would have been called by now, surely. He had precious little time to get out of the country. But the inconvenience of being hunted by law enforcement paled in comparison to the new power that Stephen felt surging through his body, power borne in the knowledge that the secrets of the three-point shooting amulet would soon be unveiled before him.

Erster Heimsieg unter Dach und Fach Die VfL SparkassenStars Bochum haben den ersten Heimsieg der Saison eingefahren und damit beste Werbung für das anstehende Derby gegen die EN Baskets Schwelm am kommenden Samstag in der Bochumer Rundsporthalle gemacht. Gegen die Dresden Titans siegte das Team durch eine deutliche Leistungssteigerung nach der Pause verdient mit 77:70 und arbeitete sich in der Tabelle auf den achten Platz vor.Bestnoten bei den Bochumern verdienten sich dabei Mark Gebhardt und Florian Wendeler sowie Youngster Tim Lang, der in einer entscheidenden Phase wichtige Impulse gab. Die rund 650 Zuschauer in der Rundsporthalle sahen zunächst eine umkämpfte Partie in der keine der Mannschaften einen offensiven Rhythmus fand. Zumindest hatten die Bochumer ihr Visier von der Drei-Punkte-Linie scharf gestellt und erzielten mit dieser Option die ersten zwölf Punkte. Mit einem knappen 14:15-Rückstand ging es letztendlich in die erste Viertelpause. Der Start in den zweiten Durchgang misslang den Gastgebern jedoch völlig. Beim Stand von 16:25 nach sehr schwachen Minuten gelang dem stark aufspielenden Mark Gebhardt ein enorm wichtiger Dreier zum 19:25. Nur wenig später glich der im Laufe des Spiels immer stärker werdende Florian Wendeler mit vier Punkten zum 25:25 aus. Vor allem eine steigerungsfähige Ausbeute von der Freiwurflinie verhinderte eine bessere Ausgangsposition als das 29:32 zur Pause. Zudem verletzte sich Mario Blessing kurz vor dem Pausengang und konnte nicht mehr in die Partie zurückkehren. Eine genauere Diagnose der Verletzung durch Mannschaftsarzt Dr. Falarzik wird für Dienstag erwartet. In der Halbzeitpause fand das Trainerteam jedoch offensichtlich die wesentlichen Stellschrauben. Nach dem Seitenwechsel agierten die Bochumer viel energischer in der Verteidigung und fanden sich auch offensiv immer besser zurecht. Der vor allem von der Dreierlinie brandgefährliche Niklas Bilski brachte seine Farben mit 40:37 nach vorne und versenkte wenig später erneut einen Distanzwurf zum 50:47. Ein Freiwurf von Florian Wendeler stellte das Ergebnis nach drei Durchgängen auf 51:48. Im letzten Durchgang vertraute Coach Felix Banobre auf Tim Lang in der Aufbauposition und der Youngster lieferte. Zunächst erzielte Marius Behr per Dunking das 53:50, bevor eine Dreier von Tim Lang zum 56:50 durch die Reuse rauschte. Lars Kamp ließ einen weiteren Dreier zum 59:50 folgen und die Bochumer waren auf Kurs. Erneut war es Tim Lang dessen mutiger Zug zum Korb mit zwei Punkten und der ersten zweistelligen Führung mit 62:51 belohnt wurde. Ein Dreier mit Ablauf der 24-Sekunden und zwei Freiwürfe von Georg Voigtmann zum 62:56 sorgten wieder für Spannung. Florian Wendeler punktete, doch war es wieder Georg Voigtmann der auf 64:58 verkürzte. Genau zum richtigen Moment fanden die Bochumer nun ihre Sicherheit bei den Freiwürfen wieder. Mark Gebhardt und Lars Kamp zeigten sich treffsicher und erhöhten auf 68:58 mit noch vier Minuten Restspielzeit. Während die Gäste jetzt Freiwürfe in Person des Amerikaners Palm, gegen den Mark Gebhardt eine auch defensiv herausragende Leistung ablieferte, liegen ließen, versenkte der Bochumer Forward seine beiden Versuche zum 73:63. Die Gäste versuchten noch mal alles und näherten sich auf 75:70 an, nachdem die Bochumer drei Freiwürfe durch Lars Kamp und Zach Haney nicht nutzen konnten. Doch Tim Lang behielt an der Linie die Nerven und machte endgültig den Deckel auf die Partie, die den ersehnten und verdienten ersten Heimsieg brachte. Kyle Kuzma 37 Points Full Highlights (10/22/2018)
Kyle Kuzma didn't have great showings in his first two games, especially in terms of the long ball, where he shot a combined 2-of-12. I can be impulsive sometimes, so obviously I started thinking: what if Kuzma's stellar rookie season had been a mirage? Four-year college players sometimes peak early, so you can't blame me for having this intrusive thought. Or, worse: what if Kuzma, at a fundamental level due to clashing play styles, is unable to play with a player like LeBron? What if the addition of a superstar point-forward changed the flow of the game in a way that Kuzma couldn't adapt to? I was happily proved wrong by Kuzma's 37-point explosion against the Spurs, which didn't result in a win for the Lakers (attention future readers, they're 0-3 right now even though they have Jabroni Lames), but did result in a correction of my attitude towards Kuzma, which is arguably more important than mere "wins". I was never the conductor of the Kuzma hype train, but I was always a willing passenger, and while getting off at the next stop was definitely a consideration for me, I can say that I will stay a passenger for a while longer.
