Lewis Hamilton noch ohne Formel-1-Vertrag für 2021! Warum dauern die Verhandlungen so lange? Plus: Braucht Mercedes Hamilton überhaupt? George Russell glänzt beim Mercedes-Debüt, Valtteri Bottas gerät unter Druck: Sollte Mercedes Russell schon in der Formel 1-Saison 2021 ins Werksteam befördern? Diese Frage drängt sich vielen Beobachtern der Königsklasse des Motorsports seit dem überragenden Einstand von Williams-Pilot George Russell beim Weltmeister-Team auf. Dort ersetzte Russell am vergangenen Wochenende den siebenmaligen Champion Lewis Hamilton, der nicht am Rennen teilnehmen konnte. Russell war vom Freien Training am Freitag an in Topform, fuhr Bestzeiten, machte keine Fehler, qualifizierte sich für die erste Startreihe und überholte seinen erfahrenen Teamkollegen Valtteri Bottas mit einem Superstart. Danach kontrolliert er das Rennen – bis ihn ein Fehler des Teams beim Boxenstopp und danach ein Reifenschaden endgültig um den verdienten Sieg brachten. Besteht nun die Chance, ihn schon 2021 im Mercedes Werksteam zu sehen? Oder verpflichtet Toto Wolff ihn erst für 2022?
