The second week of this year's Vuelta a España begins with a 30.9km-long individual time trial course between Elche and Alicante. Itis one for the pure specialists and should give them their best opportunity yet to punish the climbers and build up a large buffer before the race heads back into the mountains. Another back-breaking stage in Asturias.. There may be fewer climbs than yesterday, but the final one - Les Praeres Nava (3.7km at 13.4%) - is a brute and perhaps the toughest summit finish of the race so far. Stage 7 sees the peloton tackle an interesting route between Camargo and Cistierna that - save for a large Cat-1 climb in the middle of the stage - poses no real challenges. At 21.8km in length with an average gradient of 5.4%, the Puerto de San Glorio is too tough for most of the fast men, but with it falling over 60km from the finish, how will this stage play out? Big GC Showdown On First Summit Finish | Vuelta A España 2022 Stage 6 Highlights
Stage 6 headsout of the basque country and into Cantabria for the first summit finish of the race. There are two climbs before the long drag up to the finish line atop Pico Jano, but both pale in comparison to this Cantabrian challenge which extends for 12.6km at an average gradient of 6.5%. Another day in the Basque Country, and today's stage 5 route is a little hillier than yesterday. On paper, it looks like a mini Clásica San Sebastián and so should suit the puncheurs and climbers who often excel in that race.
