Forestry Tasmania Southern Premier League leaders Clarence United came crashing back to earth on Saturday when they were given an 8-0 thrashing by reigning champions South Hobart. Clarence had won all three of their league matches, but they were completely outclassed by a South Hobart outfit that has now gone 47 games without defeat. Clarence's three South Korean imports were completely overshadowed by their South Hobart opponents. Midfielder Kyu Jun Kim was contained by South's Tom Roach, while Jim Pennicott was effective against Jae Ho Lee, who caused little danger. Striker Seung Woo Park battled bravely and went close with a couple of long-range efforts, while he also hit the outside of the right-hand post with a fine shot midway through the first half. Clarence defender Chris Tsakiris was moved to different positions three times during the match. But, whenever he did manage to put out a spot fire, another conflagration broke out elsewhere. Mattias Toghill spent far too much time attacking and this left Kostas Kanakaris in acres of space to wreak havoc as South Hobart counter-attacked with speed. Mann added a third before the break when he fired home from 20 metres in the 41st minute. Clarence goalkeeper Michael Moschogianis had kept the score down with two excellent saves against Mann, but South might also have had a penalty when Tsakiris appeared to bring down Brennan, only to see Mr Jozeljic wave play on. The floodgates opened in the second half and Kanakaris and Mann both missed good chances before Mann conjured up a brilliant goal in the 54th minute, curling his shot into the far top corner from the edge of the box to make it 4-0 for the home side. Brennan beat defender Matt Lewis and rifled home a bullet inside the near post in the 58th minute to make it 5-0. In the 64th minute, Greg Downes smacked a free-kick against the left-hand post and Mann was on hand to head home the rebound for goal number six. The win lifted South into second spot on the ladder, but Clarence remain first. Match Report by Walter Pless
