The key moment that confused Mercedes and cost Hamilton French GP victory

Mercedes was just over a lap away from bouncing back after two forgettable street races with a victory as soon as F1 returned to a conventional circuit, but the French Grand Prix slipped through Lewis Hamilton's fingers as the reigning world champion team was outfoxed by Red Bull. Scott Mitchell looks at where Mercedes went wrong, what it could have done differently, and how the race at Paul Ricard fitted into a developing pattern of the team not being at its sharpest READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/how-mercedes-underestimated-verstappens-undercut/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/WeAreTheRace Instagram: http://instagram.com/WeAreTheRace Facebook: http://facebook.com/WeAreTheRace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. #F1 Hamilton #Verstappen https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Why F1 teams have become obsessed with narrow nose designs
Why F1 teams have become obsessed with narrow nose designs

F1 teams have followed a trend in recent years of trying to make their nose designs as narrow as possible - an idea pioneered by Mercedes. But the thinking behind this trend goes back much further than what Mercedes did in 2017. As Edd Straw explains in this video, the theory behind the narrow noses of today can be traced back 30 years, and what we see on the current cars are a consequence of several rule changes over the last decade #F1 Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/WeAreTheRace Instagram: http://instagram.com/WeAreTheRace Facebook: http://facebook.com/WeAreTheRace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Why 'Z-floors' have taken over F1 in 2021
Why 'Z-floors' have taken over F1 in 2021

Every team on the F1 grid except Haas has now adopted the 'Z-floor' design, initially pioneered by a handful of teams in pre-season in response to rule changes for this year. In this video Edd Straw explains what a Z-floor is, the aerodynamic effect the design achieves, and why all of the teams except the one not developing its car this year rushed to copy it over the first few races of the campaign. How F1 cars got so heavy and why it's only getting worse
How F1 cars got so heavy and why it's only getting worse

When the 2022 F1 season kicks off the cars on the grid will be 99kg heavier than the first cars of the hybrid era were in 2014. In this video Scott Mitchell explains that incredible rise in weight, especially given how much heavier the 2014 cars were than the V10 and V8-era cars that came before them. We also look at how the extra weight has caused problems for F1, and why there is little sign of the trend being reversed any time soon. Mercedes’ upcoming F1 technical reshuffle explained

Changes are coming behind the scenes at Mercedes, with a technical reshuffle resulting in a new role for current technical director James Allison. In this video Scott Mitchell explains the reasons for Mercedes making the change, and how it fits in with the team managing the transitions between various senior staff during its period of dominance in F1 #F1 #Mercedes READ MORE HERE What Mercedes’ tech shuffle means https://the-race.com/formula-1/what-mercedes-major-f1-technical-department-reshuffle-means/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/WeAreTheRace Instagram: http://instagram.com/WeAreTheRace Facebook: http://facebook.com/WeAreTheRace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Why Tsunoda is Red Bull's most exciting F1 talent since Verstappen
Why Tsunoda is Red Bull's most exciting F1 talent since Verstappen

Red Bull hasn't fast-tracked Yuki Tsunoda to Formula 1 just because it's a nice gesture towards Honda before the manufacturer pulls out at the end of this year. As Scott Mitchell explains in this video, the Japanese rookie has impressed Red Bull every step of the way since taking his first steps in European racing, and he appears well on track to continue that trend now he's made it to the pinnacle of the sport. Why F1 has introduced new secret car checks in 2021
Why F1 has introduced new secret car checks in 2021

The FIA will carry out deeper technical checks on one car drawn at random at every grand prix in 2021. At the Bahrain Grand Prix the lucky winner of this draw was Valtteri Bottas, whose Mercedes passed the additional checks with flying colours. This is part of a push by the FIA to further close down any possible avenues for cheating in F1, with the hope being that the threat of a team's car being chosen for the random extra checks will prevent teams being willing to take too many risks around F1's technical rules. So how does it work? Edd Straw explains all in our latest video. Have F1’s new rules hurt Mercedes’ low-rake car concept?
Have F1’s new rules hurt Mercedes’ low-rake car concept?

Mercedes has been one of the few F1 teams in recent years not to follow the ‘high rake’ ride height concept pioneered by Red Bull. But have the rule changes around the floor of the 2021 cars created an aerodynamic situation that works against the Mercedes concept? In this video Edd Straw explains what ‘rake’ really means, how it impacts the downforce produced by an F1 car, and why the rule changes for this year could be causing Mercedes headaches #F1 #Mercedes #RedBull READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/gary-anderson-have-new-f1-rules-hurt-low-rake-mercedes/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/WeAreTheRace Instagram: http://instagram.com/WeAreTheRace Facebook: http://facebook.com/WeAreTheRace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
