The first one officiates at Adelaide Oval🏟 where India lost to England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. The Chop and Changes (England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿): The ODI Champions have quite a tinkered setup post the T20 World Cup. Ben Stokes is not a part of the 50-over-format as he retired back in July 2022. Jonny Bairstow continues to miss matches and Jason Roy has been summoned after a breather during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022. James Vince Sam Billings and Olly Stone are a part of the side with Luke Wood chipped in as well. Wood had a good outing against Pakistan in the 7-match T20 series. Jos Buttler as usual will be leading the side with quite a few renowned faces that include the likes of Moeen Ali Adil Rashid Chris Woakes Dawid Malan Sam Curran and Chris Jordan. The Chop and Changes (Australia🇦🇺): Australia have more or less familiar faces who used to be a part of their ODI side barring a wee. Aaron Finch is not a part of the side and the board has spotted Pat Cummins as the better successor. Glenn Maxwell is going to miss the series due to a freak accident at his friend's place. Sean Abbott has been named a replacement for the flamboyant all-rounder. Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green are to cover up the lower middle order spot whereas Travis Head has earned a call-up and will be opening alongside David Warner thereby filling the shoes of Aaron Finch the batter. The ever-entertaining duo of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne is expected to be the wall of the batting line-up at no.3 and 4 respectively as it used to be. The spin department is led by Adam Zampa and the pace-battery-trio remains a constant for Australia across formats. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND🧠: 📣 The tournament is not a part of the ODI Super League. 📣 The series kickstarts the preparation for the 2023 ODI WORLD CUP which is 12 months away. 📣 With a lot of gloominess in the air governing the 50-over set-up the series devoids excitement. 📣 A full crowd at the Adelaide Oval is something we might not get to witness despite a rivalry show up on the cards. Remember the high-stake Afghanistan versus Australia clash in the T20 World Cup saw an affinity of only 18000 folks. 📣 The last ODI series that both sides played was in 2020 where Australia edged 2-1 in England. 📣 The last time 'The Kangaroos' and 'Three Lions' squared up in Australia was in 2017 when England gushed a 4-1 series win after a disheartening Ashes. What to expect: There's rain forecast in Adelaide for the upcoming weekend but Thursday is expected to be a perfectly sunny day for some ODI cricket. The visitors have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead and will be aiming for a clean sweep while the hosts will try to eke out a win to finish the series on a high. It is fair to say that England have been the better team in the ongoing series. When the series started Australia were the firm favourite to clinch it. But as things stand the visitors have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead and will be aiming for a clean sweep. We can look at things in two ways. England have played like a team in the entire series while the Aussies have been dependent on individual brilliance to bail them out of the precarious situations. With the World Cup so close Aaron Finch decided to demote himself at number 3 for the first T20I but immediately rectified the mistake and was back at the top for the next game. But his form is still a cause of worry for the defending champs. Yes he scored a fifty in the opening contest but he never looked fluent and that would worry the team management. For England there is a curious case of Ben Stokes. He took retirement from ODIs just to concentrate on T20Is and Test matches. But he averages a mere 19 in the shortest format of the game and hasn't done anything significant for the Three Lions in this format. This is one last chance for both sides to correct their mistakes. One last dance to make their possible combination for the World Cup. Can the Aussies salvage their pride. Pitch Report: The pitch at Manuka Oval Canberra has a balanced surface for both batters and bowlers. The average first innings score here is 142 runs. Batting first after winning the toss should be an ideal choice. Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. The last time the venue hosted an international game, the surface was bowler friendly as Australia edged past Sri Lanka in a low-scoring T20I. Team News Australia Aaron Finch is expected to return to his opening slot as we get closer to the World Cup. It will be interesting to see if Australia bring back all four first-choice bowlers for this clash and if they do, then Nathan Ellis will consider himself unlucky after an impressive performance in a game dominated by the batters. Probable XI: David Warner, Aaron Finch (C), Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (WK), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa England Mark Wood turned the game around on Sunday to finish with a three-wicket haul. He is vital to England's chances in the World Cup so the possibility of him getting a rest is indeed quite high. Probable XI: Jos Buttler (C & WK), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Reece Topley/David Willey, Adil Rashid What they said: "I'm just super clear before I go out to bat. I think it happens for a lot of people once they cement their spot in the team. I knew that in the West Indies (last year) that I was going to be batting three so I had months to prepare for that. I went in there really clear and obviously took that opportunity." - Mitchell Marsh on being Australia's No.3 in T20 cricket Squads: England Squad: Jos Buttler(w/c), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, Mark Wood, Liam Livingstone, Philip Salt, David Willey, Chris Jordan Australia Squad: David Warner, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Aaron Finch(c), Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade(w), Daniel Sams, Nathan Ellis, Kane Richardson, Mitchell Swepson, Josh Inglis, Ashton Agar, Sean Abbott, Steven Smith

Overview England v Australia, 1st T20I The Ageas Bowl, Southampton Friday, 4 September, 06:00pm local time, 05:00pm GMT If the intra-squad practice matches are anything to go by, a break of five months from international cricket has done nothing to diminish Australia's hunger to perform. The visitors have a problem of plenty. Glenn Maxwell, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey all got hundreds in the practice games. Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Finch have looked good too and with the dangerous David Warner and Steve Smith the batting unit looks formidable. Both the pace and the spin attack look settled. They have also included the uncapped Riley Meredith in the squad. The final instalment of the English international summer should be an enticing one, then, and not simply because of the edge that generally comes with any game between England and Australia. The three T20I matches, which are then followed by three ODIs, pit the number one and two sides in the ICC world rankings against each other and both squads are more or less full strength too, albeit that England are missing Jason Roy and Ben Stokes, two of their first choice players. If the weather holds, the cricket should be high-quality. The most exciting, and fascinating, aspect of the series will be the sight of a coral of genuine quicks trying to stick up for the bowlers in a game dominated by batsmen. For England, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood return to their squad after missing the series against Pakistan while Australia have Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood in their party. All of them are capable of shifting consistently into the 90mph bracket. Normally, batsmen have it much their own way in T20 cricket. Perhaps this series will be different. Remember the last time The two teams last faced each other in T20Is in a one-off encounter in June 2018, which England won by 28 runs after putting up a massive score of 221/5. They haven't met each other in the shortest format since but each team's current form puts them on even ground. Australia have won nine out of their last 11 T20Is and would be itching to get back on the international circuit after a long gap. England too have been doing well and have not lost a single T20I series out of their last six. What they said Squads: England Squad: Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler(w), Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan(c), Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Tom Banton, Joe Denly, Tom Curran Australia Squad: Aaron Finch(c), David Warner, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey(w), Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa, Matthew Wade, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Sean Abbott, Marcus Stoinis, Andrew Tye, Marnus Labuschagne, Riley Meredith, Daniel Sams, Josh Philippe Disclaimer: Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
