And heâs done all of it using a pretty unique driving style. BUT, heâs consistently changed and adapted to the cars he's driven - through Torro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari and now Aston Martin. So let me break down what made him SO fast - and how heâs had to change for each car, because heâs a master of driving incredibly intelligently. Letâs get into it. So we have analysed a load of drivers on this channel, but Vettel is most similar to Schumacher in the way he gets a car through a corner. To understand this, let me show you an example. First is a geometric racing line, itâs the shallowest arc you can take through the corner. Now, this seems like itâd be the fastest way around a track, but itâs not. When you factor in that cars also need to slow down and speed up through a corner - you end up with a different racing line. This line is not a perfect arc, but rather what drivers call âmore squaredâ. This mean braking deep into the corner, making the car turn sharper at the apex, and then straightening the car quickly on the exit. Tyres have a finite amount of grip that can be used for braking, turning and accelerating - or a blend of these things. With a more âsquared lineâ the idea is that it allows you to brake later, as youâre using more of the tyre for stopping. Then you turn the car and use all of the grip for accelerating. Now, these are exaggerated examples, but to give some context - Hamilton, Alonso and Charles take a more geometric, curved line. As the line is more swallow, the drivers need less steering angle, so the minimum speed through the corner is higher. However, they are steering for longer, which means theyâre slower to get to full throttle. And if you go back to Vettelâs Red Bull days - he was perhaps the most extreme of the lot. He would push the braking very late - sometimes so far that it looks like heâs missed the apex. Then he would pivot the car QUICKLY, and slingshot the car out the corner. Getting on the throttle whilst others were still turning hard. But why does this work? â¤Follow Driver61 on: ⤠Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta â¤TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok ⤠Follow Scott on: ⤠Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell ⤠Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta Fernando Alonso had a really weird steering technique during the 2005 and 2006 F1 season. He'd shock the Renault F1 car into understeer with a rapid steering input, a technique which had not been seen before in Formula One. #Vettel #F1 #Driver61

Smashing it over the curb at Imola, leading to a trip to the barrier. Then was just pushing it too far this week, venturing onto a dirty patch of the circuit and sending him into the wall. These seem like huge errors, ones that may rule him out of the championship this year - but Iâm not so sure. How many mistakes had Max and Lewis made by this point last season? Letâs get into it. So what mistakes am I on about? Well, there are two main mistakes this season that I would class as a âBig Dealâ. The first would be the chicane in Imola - Charles was pushing too hard and LAUNCHED it over the curb. Go back and look at that replay, he brakes too late and enters the corner with WAY too much speed. He then takes too much curb, leading to the plank hitting the sausage curb and pirouetting his Ferrari into the wall. A slam dunk driver mistake. He was in third at the time, but it sent him down to 8th. The final result was 7th, but that cost him 7 points. And in a championship where two drivers have pretty equal cars, thatâs a lot. Then there is the mistake in France, Verstappen had put incredible pressure on Charles, and neither had made any mistakes. So Verstappen boxed to overtake, with Charles staying out. To avoid the undercut Leclerc was pushing SO hard, and went off at Turn 11. The double left. Now this is a really difficult corner, I have driven a few F1 cars around this circuit - and they present a unique challenge as they take so much speed through that double right. â¤Follow Driver61 on: ⤠Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta â¤TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok ⤠Follow Scott on: ⤠Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell ⤠Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta #Leclerc #Ferrari #F1

Go follow him on Twitter for F1 Tech news! đ https://twitter.com/ScarbsTech đ§ Thanks to @brrrake for helping out with this! Check out his channel too! Danny Ric has been struggling this year - on pace, consistency and overall results. And its not helped by his teammate Lando outperforming that car this season. At the moment, Lando has 48 points, to Daniels 11 - so Lando has brought in 82% of McLarens points this season. Then there is qualifying pace - on average, Lando is 6 tenths quicker - in the same car. (0.596) So I looked into whatâs going on, but to understand that - we need to understand Ricciardoâs driving style. Because it will explain why he was so quick at Red Bull, but not at McLaren. â Quickly though, I need to mention that Danny has had some great results. With several podiums and even a win back in Monza. But what weâre looking at is one of the drivers with the worst records compared to their teammate - who is obviously working with the same tools. So really, it's the gap to Lando that is interesting here. â So what is Dannyâs driving style like? Well, I have broken down a number of driving styles on this channel - and really, they are subtle points that allow the driver to get the car through the corner quickly. For example, Hamilton is incredible on the brakes. He is able to get the car stopped well, without losing time on exit. Vettel takes a more veeâd off line to rotate the car mid-corner, similar to Schumacher. But all of these driving styles tie in closely with the car they are driving. For example, Alonso back in 2005 and 2005 was driving a Renault with a really strong rear end and using tyres that were rock hard. So he induced understeer on the way into the corner, which heated the tyres and gave him the grip to pivot the car mid-corner and fire it out on exit. But he isnât using that style at Alpine for example, as it would chew up the tyres and he would be pretty slow. â But, having said that - Danny was at his peak at Red Bull between 2014 and 2018. So let's look at his style then. The Red Bull was incredible aerodynamically, with more raw downforce than other teams (on the whole). But the Renault engine wasnât great, so they were comparatively quick in the corners, but slower on the straights. â¤Follow Driver61 on: ⤠Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta â¤TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok ⤠Follow Scott on: ⤠Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell ⤠Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta #F1 #Ricciardo #McLaren
Join our F1 Mailing List! đ https://driver61.beehiiv.com/subscribe We get our data from F1 Tempo - go check them out! https://www.f1-tempo.com/ Hamilton and Russell - they havenât been having the best season - but one has been pulling out a lead in the points. And whilst both have been having issues with the car - they have both battled it differently. So who is on top after five races? Who is getting more out of that Mercedes? The points say that Russell is on top - but do the lap times agree? Weâve gone over every lap, of every race and we want to show you whatâs going on - in the data. So letâs get into it. â So first, Bahrain. To give some context, Mercedes were the third fastest car - with Red Bull and Ferrari being a way in front. Mercedes were apparently running the cars âover-wingedâ, meaning more downforce (and drag) than they actually wanted, and that was supposedly down to lack of parts. But both cars were immediately having bouncing problems, porpoising, on the straights, so had to run the ride heigh of their car, higher - which according to Toto cost them about half a second a lap. And thatâs about where they were in quali pace. But here is how it all shook out in the race - these are the lap times of Lewis and George - compared to the pace setters, Max and Charles. You can see the Mercs were around half a second back on pace, across the entire Grand Prix - but actually didnât see the same kind of tyre drop off that the front two teams did. Look at the end of each stint - here. Now according to Mercedes - the pace in the simulator is good. But, thatâs still the simulator and doesnt account for the porpoising - and therefore the performance loss with the bouncing - and the increase in ride height they had to make to fix it. But fair play - they finished P3 and P4 after some dodgy pace (yes itâs down to both Red Bulls DNF-ing) - but they did maximise their results in Bahrain. And by all accounts - the pace between Lewis and George was very, very similar. George was less than a couple of seconds behind Lewis for the second half of the race, so he may have been faster - but we donât know. â¤Follow Driver61 on: ⤠Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta â¤TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok ⤠Follow Scott on: ⤠Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell ⤠Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta ⤠Follow Callum on: ⤠TikTok - @callumraces https://tiktok.com/@callumraces ⤠Twitter - @callum_mcintyre https://twitter.com/@callum_mcintyre ⤠Instagram - @mcintyre.jpg https://www.instagram.com/mcintyre.jpg/ #Hamilton #Russell #Formula1
