«Fin da bambino sono stato tifoso Ferrari, e il mio impegno deve essere massimo, come il vostro. Facciamo parte di una squadra che conta più di noi. Siamo interpreti di una passione enorme, commovente, ma siamo anche reduci da delusioni che non dovranno ripetersi. Abbiamo un imperativo: rappresentare la Ferrari, onorare la divisa che portiamo, perché il Cavallino Rampante è l'emblema dell'eccellenza italiana nel mondo. Mi aspetto sempre meno errori, più qualità e salutare allegria agonistica»: sono queste le ponderate, profonde parole che il team principal della Ferrari, Mattia Binotto, ha scelto per dare il la alla stagione 2021 di F1 della Ferrari. Il primo capitolo ufficiale del 2021 della Ferrari in Formula 1 si è consumato oggi, con la presentazione del team. Un antipasto che a Maranello hanno voluto offrire ai fan prima del piatto principale - la monoposto di quest'anno, la SF21 - da servire freddo, quasi come una vendetta, il 10 marzo, a pochi giorni dai test pre-stagionali in Bahrain. E di novità, a prescindere dalla vettura, in effetti ce ne sono. Prima di tutto, la presenza nel team di una faccia fresca, quella di Carlos Sainz, che sostituisce Sebastian Vettel accanto all'uomo del futuro della Rossa, Charles Leclerc. Ma sono stati pure apportati cambi all'organigramma, in particolare per quanto riguarda l'area tecnica, con l'individuazione di "ruoli e responsabilità chiare" in quattro macro aree. E, nota di non poco conto, il team principal Mattia Binotto vede alleggerito il suo bagaglio di responsabilità, con l'aspetto commerciale trasferito nelle mani di Nicola Boari. A tutto vantaggio della supervisione del cruciale lavoro in ottica 2022, compito cui Binotto darà precedenza rispetto alla presenza in pista ad ogni GP. Binotto - era già stato annunciato lo scorso anno - non sarà infatti sempre in circuito. A farne le veci sarà il racing director, Laurent Mekies, coadiuvato dal deus ex machina delle strategie, lo spagnolo Iñaki Rueda, nel ruolo di direttore sportivo. Scossoni non di poco conto, insomma, che a loro volta potrebbero costituire un antipasto di un cambiamento più consistente. Ma qui si entra nel campo delle supposizioni. Meglio allora concentrarsi sulle dichiarazioni. A cominciare da quelle di capitan Binotto: «Il 2021 sarà un anno importante, con tante sfide. La nostra vettura nasce da quella dell'anno scorso, e c'è il budget cap, da affrontare con determinazione. Si tratta di un esercizio non banale. Il 2022 vedrà invece una macchina completamente nuova. Affronteremo un percorso lungo e accidentato. Commetteremo errori, anche inaccettabili. Ma dobbiamo imparare a crescere, con lo spirito giusto. Come per un'orchestra, anche alla scuderia servono i migliori strumenti. Non solo grazie a Ferrari, ma anche ai nostri partner. Su Charles e Carlos vogliamo fondare il nostro futuro». Il nuovo arrivato, Carlos Sainz, ha un amore per il motorsport che viene da lontano. «La mia passione per le corse è cominciata quando ero un bambino. A due anni sono salito sulla mia maccina, grazie a mio padre. Da piccolo, mi sono innamorato della F1 vedendo Alonso e Schumacher al GP di Spagna». E ora, un momento fondamentale della sua carriera, con quella Ferrari che «ti cambia la vita, quando firmi. A dicembre ho incontrato tutte le persone in fabbrica, ingegneri, meccanici. La prima volta che ti metti la tuta rossa è un momento indimenticabile». L'obiettivo principe è chiaro: «Tra cinque anni, voglio essere campione del mondo. Guidare per il team più importante al mondo è una grande responsabilità. Ora stiamo cercando di migliorare, e serve lavoro di squadra. E quando arriveranno i risultati, saremo ancora più determinati per il futuro. Per Charles c'è rispetto, ma anche voglia di batterlo». Anche Charles Leclerc si è visto stravolgere la vita arrivando in Ferrari. «Credevo di sapere cosa volesse dire firmare con la Ferrari, ma non è così. Qui è tutto ottimizzzato per la performance, è un'atmosfera unica. Non posso lamentarmi del mio lavoro, il 99% delle volte lo faccio con il sorriso sulle labbra. C'è la massima attenzione al dettaglio, tutti spingono al limite Vedo la F1 come uno sport di squadra, non individuale. E la Ferrari è una famiglia». Leclerc sembra cresciuto dopo un 2020 non facile: «Ho lavorato molto sulla gestione delle gomme, cerco di essere aggressivo il giusto. Ogni errore ha grandi conseguenze, non possiamo permetterci di deconcentrarci nemmeno per un attimo». Il crocevia della sua esperienza in Ferrari, però, è stato un altro. «Tutto è cambiato dopo Monza 2019 - racconta Charles - è stato il massimo per me. Le persone mi fermano di più per strada, e si sente la passione dei fan in Italia. Il tifo Ferrari è quasi come una religione in Italia, è un grande onore far parte di questa famiglia». Una passione cieca, come quella degli amori più tormentati e profondi.
