Sophie Cunningham has become one of the WNBA’s biggest on-court instigators and one of the Indiana Fever’s most recognizable enforcers. Now Cunningham is at the center of another massive WNBA controversy after DiJonai Carrington was ejected for a Flagrant 2 foul on Cunningham during an August 8, 2026 game against the Fever after making contact with Cunningham’s head and jaw on a drive. Cunningham immediately confronted Carrington before teammates separated them, and the situation exploded online afterward when Carrington posted “WHITE PRIVILEGE” while tagging the Indiana Fever, later saying people had misinterpreted what she meant. Cunningham rejected the suggestion that race influenced the call and pointed to her own previous ejection for a hard foul. Kanter Freedom, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, played 11 seasons in the NBA for teams including the Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers and Boston Celtics, while White was selected No. 16 overall by the Houston Rockets in the 2012 NBA Draft.
