Sette righe che il numero due di Don Fabio, carico di entusiasmo spedisce subito a Milano. La frase che infila al termine del dispaccio sembra quasi voler sollecitare l’ad dei rossoneri. Come ad invitarlo a prenderlo al più presto. Quel giovane centravanti, però, non è uno dei talenti della cantera blaugrana. Gioca per una squadra di sconosciuti, guidati da un tecnico leggendario, che è incredibilmente in testa al girone C di Champions League. Quella notte, nella vicina centrale di Chernobyl avviene il più grande disastro nucleare della storia e la famiglia di Andriy deve prendere una decisione dolorosa. Lasciare il villaggio natio per allontanarsi dalla radiazioni dell’esplosione. Vanno a vivere sulla costa del mar Nero, ma per il ragazzino cambia poco. È sempre attaccato alla palla e, nonostante la distanza, lo notano gli osservatori della Dinamo Kiev, che lo riportano nella capitale. Entra nelle giovanili biancoblu e, a 18 anni, debutta in prima squadra. Dove avviene il primo incontro fondamentale della sua carriera. Infatti, alla Dinamo, gioca un ragazzo di vent’anni che arriva dai dintorni di Donetsk. Fisicamente, è l’esatto contrario di Sheva. Basso di statura, fisico robusto, ma con un gran senso del gol. Si chiama Sergej Rebrov. I due giovani iniziano la prima stagione insieme mettendo a referto tredici gol in totale. Partono come riserve poi, poco a poco, iniziano ad entrare in pianta stabile nell’undici titolare. Quei due ragazzini terribili diverranno una delle coppie gol più prolifiche ed iconiche del calcio europeo anni ’90. Perché se lo United aveva i “Calipso Boys” Andy Cole e Dwight Yorke e la Samp aveva appena salutato i suoi “Gemelli del Gol” Vialli - Mancini, per pochi, ma splendenti anni, la Dinamo Kiev incanterà il continente con il duo Sheva – Rebrov. I gemelli del gol La squadra trionfa a ripetizione in campionato e nella coppa nazionale e nel 1997, per provare a fare il definitivo salto di qualità in Europa viene chiamato in panchina una leggenda del calcio sovietico. Valery Lobanovsky. Eccolo il secondo incontro fondamentale nella carriera del futuro bomber milanista. Si tratta, in realtà, di un ritorno dell’ex ct della Unione Sovietica, ma questa volta il compito che deve portare a casa è molto più arduo. La Dinamo vuole entrare in una dimensione europea. Vuole giocarsela alla pari con le grandi di Italia, Germania, Inghilterra. Forte di una rosa che vede Shovkovsky in porta, il mediano Gusin a centrocampo e i giovani bomber a metterla in porta davanti come colonne di un team che è pronto a dare battaglia in Champions. Non è solo consapevolezza nei propri mezzi. Il cammino che gli ucraini affrontano in Europa nella stagione 1997 – 98 è condito da una voglia di rivalsa verso quello che la Dinamo considera un enorme torto subito.
