I know more about the kid's pop than I do about the next big thing in KC. Even still, there's no way you could catch this top of the first between the Royals and Dodgers and not be intriged about what the future might hold for one Bobby Witt Jr. and his Dorothies. Power's nice and all, and it is said that Junior's got that in spades as well, but what about that burst the youngster put on after the boot at short. Memories of Lorenzo Cain's stride, from game-6 of the 2015 ALCS, echoed as the kid put his stamp on a spring training tilt. Yes, Joe Buck... Cain. Absolutely. Flew. No matter how partisan or salty a Jays fan as you may be, the athleticism that the Royals' centerfielder put on display in that bygone 8th inning was freak'n impressive. From first to home on but a single to deep right is the type of championship moment that resonates. Even without the stakes as high, even with the weather and time of the season ever more pleasant deep in the heart of Arizona, young Mr. Witt's turn-and-burn around third was the type of play that had me woah-ing. Whether or not Witt Jr. fulfills expectation is another thing, right. Baseball's really hard. Unlike other sports, sometimes an impressive physique and speed-to-burn doesn't translate to this quirky game. But, man, that type of foot-speed, when coupled with a heads-up awareness to what's happening, is the kind of thing that would go a long way towards repairing some of the ills that make today's ball seem dull. I'm unsure whether the nerds that populate front offices approve of that daring, but. Sweet Jesus, that was fun to watch. Cheers, Mr. Witt!
