Der Sieger des Uniqa ÖFB Cups heißt wie im Vorjahr Puntigamer Sturm Graz: Die Steirer haben am Mittwoch das Finale gegen den SK Rapid mit 2:1 (0:1) gewonnen und sich zum siebenten Mal in diesem Bewerb die Krone aufgesetzt. Tomi Horvat (81.) avancierte zum Matchwinner, Rapids Warten auf einen Cuptitel wird damit zumindest 30 Jahre dauern. Dabei führten die Hütteldorfer zur Pause durch ein Tor von Matthias Seidl (43.), der nach starker Einzelleistung von Marco Grüll abstaubte. Rapid muss hingegen weiter auf den ersten Titel seit 16 Jahren warten, 2008 gewann man zuletzt die Meisterschaft, 1995 den Titel im ÖFB-Cup. Die Grazer gewannen unterdessen auch ihr viertes Cupfinale in Klagenfurt, vor einem Jahr behielten sie mit einem 2:0 gegen Rapid die Oberhand. „Wir haben aggressiv sein müssen, das haben wir erste Hälfte nicht gut gemacht. In der Kabine ist es dann rund gegangen, jeder hat jedem die Meinung gesagt. Danach sind wir rausgegangen und wollten Rapid schlagen. Es ist mega, es ist einfach geil, dass man solche Spiele hat und auch gewinnen kann“, sagte Affengruber. Ein vermeintliches Foulspiel an Querfeld wurde nur kurz vom Video Assistant Referee (VAR) thematisiert und auch nicht geahndet, sehr zum Ärger der Rapid-Bank, die ein Stürmerfoul von Biereth an dem Verteidiger reklamierte. Rapid drückte in den letzten Minuten, doch richtige Chancen gab es keine mehr. Grüll jagte noch einen Freistoß über das Tor, zwei Ecken kurz vor Schluss brachten auch nichts mehr ein. Am Ende jubelte wie im Vorjahr Sturm, Rapids Warten auf einen Titel verlängert sich.
