Man Utd news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops Romelu Lukaku hint before Brighton clash
Man Utd news: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops Romelu Lukaku hint before Brighton clash

Belgian front-man Lukaku has scored three goals in his last four matches after missing Solskjaer’s first two games in charge while on compassionate leave. Yet the 25-year-old - United’s club-record signing at £75million two years ago - has yet to start a league game under the Norwegian. That’s with Rashford establishing himself as first choice under Solskjaer, while Anthony Martial has also started all the matches he has been available for bar Huddersfield, a game he missed with illness. Rashford and Martial were devastating in the first half of last weekend’s win over Tottenham with the former providing the game’s only goal for a massive 1-0 victory at Wembley. That has cast uncertainty over Lukaku’s role despite his impact from the bench to score against both Bournemouth and Newcastle. Solskjaer insists he will offer minutes to Lukaku, who has 109 goals in the Premier League, but dropped a hint that Rashford, Martial and Jesse Lingard will remain his first-choice forward line until May. “He's a big part of the squad, definitely," Solskjaer said ahead of the visit of Brighton to Old Trafford today (3pm). "There's no-one scoring as many goals as him in training.  “There are the three who play the most [Rashford, Martial and Lingard] but then you've got Rom, you've got Juan [Mata], you've got Alexis [Sanchez]. “So I've got a front six I can rotate and Rom is definitely going to be playing games. “I used to be one of four strikers when we played with two. "Now we have six forwards and we play with three most of the time.  “We'll be able to rotate and there's enough games and playing time. "It's about taking the chances when you get them, and to be fair, Rom has scored three already.  “It's up to the strikers to take them.” Solskjaer has also revealed that Mason Greenwood is close to making his United debut. The 17-year-old has an outstanding 24 goals in 20 games across under-18, under-19 and under-23 levels for United this season and made the bench in the Champions League under Jose Mourinho. Solskjaer - who has spoken about his desire to give chances to the club’s academy prospects admitted: ”There are quite a few young kids coming through. “Jimmy Garner was there [in Dubai], Mason, Chongy [Tahith Chong] and [Angel] Gomes. So there are players there coming through. Mason is one of them. "You've got to remember that he's only 17. He's knocking on the door to get his first appearance."

Man Utd news Pundit reveals major Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku worry after Valencia loss
Man Utd news Pundit reveals major Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku worry after Valencia loss

Man Utd news: Pundit reveals major Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku worry after Valencia loss. That’s the opinion of BT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas. Both of the pair struggled as United slipped to a 2-1 defeat in the Champions League at Valencia last night - albeit with progression to the last 16 already assured. The Red Devils, however, missed out on the chance to top their group after Juventus lost at Young Boys in the other game. United were well below par and could not have any complaints about their defeat in Spain, with Marcus Rashford only reducing the arrears in the final minutes with a well-taken header. Among United’s most disappointing performers were Lukaku and Pogba. The two are Jose Mourinho’s most expensive signings at £75million and £89m each but have endured underwhelming campaigns so far. Pogba’s performance included a horrific miss from five yards out while United trailed 1-0 in the first half. The Frenchman had been dropped to the substitutes’ bench for the club’s previous two matches but failed to make much of an impression in his efforts to force himself back into the starting eleven. Analysing Pogba’s display, Jenas told BT’s Champions League highlights show: “Completely crazy miss from a player of his calibre.  “There are certain players in that Manchester United team that are just not in a good place.  “That [miss] just stinks of a lack of concentration, switching off at the wrong time. It’s not that he doesn’t care, he wants to score there clearly, he’s disappointed.  “But he’s, from a confidence perspective, not in a great place. Just like Lukaku as well.  “If anyone deserved a goal it’s been Rashford. While they’ve not been playing well, he’s been one that has kept going week after week.” Manager Mourinho could not hide his frustrations with United’s performance. “Nothing that happened surprised me at all,” he said of an error-strewn display which included a comical Phil Jones own goal. “I expect more from my players, especially players that week in, week out, they ask why they don’t play, why they don’t start. “It was a good match to play, without any kind of pressure, in a competition that everyone likes to play in.  “And in the end my team improved really when I made changes I didn’t want to make, which is frustrating because I didn’t want to play the three players that I played in the second half.”

Kilmarnock 1 3 Rangers Alfredo Morelos scores hat trick in Scottish League Cup
Kilmarnock 1 3 Rangers Alfredo Morelos scores hat trick in Scottish League Cup

Kilmarnock 1-3 Rangers: Alfredo Morelos scores hat-trick in Scottish League Cup. Alfredo Morelos scored a hat-trick to send Rangers into the last eight of the Scottish League Cup with a 3-1 win at Kilmarnock. The striker was the subject of a £3.75million bid from Bordeaux earlier this week but manager Steven Gerrard warned it could take three times that figure to prise him away from Ibrox. And the asking price is likely to rise even further after the Colombian stunned Steve Clarke’s men at Rugby Park with his first treble for the club It could have been four had the officials not missed the 22-year-old’s early strike which TV replays showed had crossed the line. Borna Barisic briefly gave Killie hope with an own goal just after half-time but apart from that and a worrying knee injury sustained by Jamie Murphy it was a stress-free afternoon for Gerrard’s team. Both sides made changes in goal as Gers stopper Allan McGregor was given a rest following his Europa League heroics against Maribor, with Wes Foderingham returning for his first start of the campaign, while Clarke handed a debut to Daniel Bachmann. It took the visitors just seven minutes to beat the Watford loanee as Morelos got a toe to Ryan Kent’s cross from the right. The striker should have left no room for doubt by bursting the net but he certainly did enough to get it over the line before Stephen O’Donnell could hook away. But the goal was missed by referee Nick Walsh and his assistant Daniel McFarlane who waved play on. There was a further blow when the visitors lost Murphy early after he appeared to twist his left knee on Killie’s plastic pitch and was stretchered off with head in hands as Daniel Candeias took his place. Morelos was again frustrated as Bachmann blocked well with his legs, while former Ibrox wideman Chris Burke sparked a fine save from Foderingham with a free-kick from out wide. But there was no denying Morelos on 28 minutes as he grabbed the opener. Scott Arfield, Andy Halliday and Candeias led a counter-attack as James Tavernier was found out wide and his cross was bulleted home at close-range. Killie were almost level five minutes later as Kirk Broadfoot smacked a header off the bar but it was Gers who doubled their lead on 43 minutes. Tavernier’s long ball down the right-hand channel should have been dealt with by Scott Boyd but he allowed himself to be rolled by Morelos, who made the defender pay as he angled a low finish past Bachmann. The home support were cheering on 51 minutes though as Barisic diverted Jordan Jones’ cross into his own net. But it was game over with 16 minutes left as Ovie Ejaria, Arfield and Tavernier worked together to lay on Morelos one last time as he tucked home his hat-trick from close-range.

Paul Pogba lose his temper during an interview
Paul Pogba lose his temper during an interview

Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba will pose a menace to any Premier League defence next season when they link up for Manchester United. But the duo are already causing plenty of trouble in the US as they spend time together on their summer holiday. Speaking to an ESPN reporter at their apartment, Lukaku and Pogba were filmed playing rock, scissors, paper with the reporter Alexis Nunes by their outdoor pool. Paul Pogba pushed ESPN FC reporter Alexis Nunes into a swimming pool during an interview Showing a telepathy that can only bode well for United, both the Belgian and the Frenchman both went for scissors, while the unwitting presenter of the short clip is left the unlucky loser as she opts for paper. As if the ignominy of losing out wasn't bad enough, Pogba decided to enforce his own form of punishment, pushing the unsuspecting Nunes into the water behind. Remembering the cameras are still rolling, her reaction is admirably restrained given the cheap shot, but the United pair are unable to contain their laughter as they revel in the moment. Lukaku will be hoping to make a splash of his own when he gets up and running with the Red Devils this season. The striker is set to seal a £75million move from Everton to Old Trafford after passing a medical while in the US, and he has already said goodbye to fans at Goodison Park via Instagram. The pool prank hasn't been the only mischief making from the pair while in LA, with the Belgium international in hot water with police after they were called out six times to his rented home over noise complaints. Meanwhile, Pogba looked a little more relaxed when he posted a picture on Monday morning of himself sitting at a grand piano. The midfielder was eking out the last remnants of his summer holiday before getting back to training. Along with the picture, he posted the message: 'Last tunes of holidays, ready to go back to the game!!'
