Rangers fall short against the Hurricanes, secure second seed in the Metro | Postgame Report

The Rangers fall in a battle of playoff foes, 4-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes. With the win, Carolina clinches the top spot in the Metro division and New York owns the second spot and will now either face Pittsburgh or Washington in the first round. Things started off slow with a scoreless first period, and the Rangers went on to miss three consecutive power play opportunities in the second. That gave Carolina all the confidence they needed to build a sustainable lead, sitting at 4-1 after a goal shortly into the third period. The Rangers came back as they often do, but this lead was a bit too large to overcome. A pair of scares as Panarin and Copp went down with injuries during the game, but coach Gallant said they’d be good to go for the playoffs next week, where the Rangers will need everyone along for the ride. Here's Thomas Quigley with that and more.
