In one of the worst Penn State football seasons under Joe Paterno up to that current time, the Nittany Lions capped it off in a very positive way, with a fine outing against a talented Michigan State team. The offense jumped on the Spartans right from the get-go. Aided by the defense, as three of Michigan State's first seven plays from scrimmage resulted in quarterback sacks. The blue and white would pile of 8 total sacks on the day. Lion senior quarterback Rashard Casey played one of his best games to close out his career, and there were other big time plays from underclassmen such as Larry Johnson, Omar Easy and Eric McCoo. This one felt more like the Penn State of old that fans had grown accustomed to throughout the decade of the 90's. Penn State's Top Performers: Rashard Casey: 11/16, 218 yards, 3 TDs ... 11 carries, 42 yards, 2 TDs Larry Johnson: 10 carries, 93 yards, TD Eric McCoo: 15 carries, 71 yards, TD .. 1 reception, 31 yards, TD The Nittany Lions finished the season with a 5-7 record, which placed them 7th in the Big Ten standings. Michigan State posted a final record of 5-6 with the loss, but ended up with a 10th place finish within the Big Ten that year.
