Ask the UEFL - Team Canada Walks off Field in Protest After Olympic Umps Deny Pitcher Substitution

When umpires denied Canada pitcher Danielle Lawrie's attempted re-entry into its Olympics matchup vs Japan during the 2020 Tokyo games, Canada responded by walking off the field in protest. Article: https://www.closecallsports.com/2021/07/canada-briefly-removes-team-from-field.html After a rules check using the WBSC Softball rulebook and conferring with tournament officials, umpires permitted Lawrie to re-enter the game and pitch in the 5th inning. Lawrie had initially appeared on Team Canada's lineup as a starting pitcher before being substituted for in the 1st inning before throwing a single pitch. WBSC Rule 3.2.3e allows starting players to re-enter the lineup once. Lawrie was Canada's Flex Player for the game while her 1st inning replacement, Sara Groenewegen, was the team's Designated Player.
